Hmm. I personally thought he was a very odd player for us - unbelievably sluggish at right back, the position we signed him for, while too slow to cause a threat on the wing (this was during the Blackwell spell of dropping Cotterill for any excuse). But he was tidy on the ball, had a decent shot, and ended the season well. I actually thought we saw his best games when he replaced Henderson up front for that brief spell. He'd tick the boxes in covering right back and the middle of defence - and his lack of pace probably would be less exposed in this league.

Halford was training at Forest today, our local TV guys were there, (Central) regarding the Osombolonolgoloongogongo move and Greg was there in the background. They also mentioned 2 players that will be allowed to leave but nowt about Halford.

As good as Greg was for us, why would we want another right back for our collection? Alcock plus existing others for cover should be plenty enough.

Right Back? Yes, one of the many strings to Greg's bow, but he can operate just as effectively across midfield, at the centre of defence and if pushed, up front too.
Whether he is still the player that left us is more to the point.

Didn't Halford play CB all last season for Forest? That is our need now, however I think we need more of a natural CB and leader than Greg is.

I would put Collins and Magahey at centre half and preserve with it. Maguire wasn't half as good without Collins next to him. I think he could bring Magahey on in the same way.
Those two in the middle, Bob at left back and then we just need a new, attacking right back, capable of getting up and down the line and I'd be happy enough. I'm not sure Halford is that right back any more. I'd still happily have him in the squad, though.

I saw him yesterday and went to the Fenerbahce game. I saw the miscued clearances and the man who didn't look like he could balance properly. Neither he nor Magahey were great yesterday, but I think Magahey has more potential to forge a good partnership with Collins.

Alcock is great bombing down the right flank. CB, he did a job but Collins should've played. I'm hoping Collins didn't play due as a precaution.

I haven't really seen Alcock at right back, but if that's the case then my back four would be him at RB, Collins and Magahey in the middle and Bob at LB. It's as close to like-for-like from last season as we can get at the moment, albeit with reduced quality.
