Flat atmosphere on the Kop

He apparently said in his post-match interview, “that was the most uncomfortable experience for me at a football match since I played against Nick Montgomery.”
The person this is aimed at is sulking because his beloved premier teams keep getting him knocked out of LMS;)

I'll just put these here, all quotes from the programme for the Blackburn game:

Norwood on the Derby game: "The fans realised how much we needed them and without being patronising, we need that atmosphere more often. Of course it's down to us as players, but it really does make the world of difference. They drove us on"...

Henderson: We need to make Bramall Lane a tough, tough place to come to, because when the atmospheres like that I honestly think were unplayable. The support was unreal at times, if we could replicate the second half backing in the first, it would really get us going..."

Sharp: "The fans fans can help us and they certainly created a better atmosphere than previous home games and we'd like to thank them for that... their backing goes a long way, the lads recognised that after the game and it gives the players confidence to see the game out"

It's the club that needs to do something, the fans themselves will never take the initiative.

Fans in this country are sheep. Proper supporter groups and supporter organisation is virtually non existent.

Seems a bit harsh and unnecessary.
He really really tried to do exactly that.

Funny isn't it, I'm sure Bruce was one who said he'd back it. As are many of the piss takers. Says a lot about them.

Out of interest, which stand are you on and is it vocal? Me I'm on the Kop and sing regardless, even if people around me aren't.

Kop. Near the back. It's vocal if we're winning well, or have a moment of controversy. But generally, it's full of lads who should be able to get things going, but they just don't bother.

And back to normal we go.

But just you wait, when we're in the Championship fighting for promotion, it will be absolutely buzzing.

Change the record, fella. It's getting a bit old.

I'm at the very back of the Kop with good friends. We laugh, cheer and we certainly fucking sing. You're genuinely welcome to come join us any time you like. It might have you coming away from matches a bit more satisfied than you currently seem to be.

I don't think I'm too far away from you. It's shite. For every one who sings there's 10 who don't.

Are people just enjoying the football?

I don’t want to have a pop about the singing section idea as it’s good in principle, I just think Burton was the wrong game personally.

Is it not worth tying it against a team like Boro where there will be a lot on the line and the atmosphere lifting?

It boils my piss at the start of each half when we're at home that once Annie's song is withdrawn from the club tannoy the majority stop singing !! Is this some cause of the issues to get behind the team at the start of both halvrs. Perhaps there's a copyright thing why it doesn't get played for longer ?

I just think Burton was the wrong game personally.

It was, mostly because it got moved to a Tuesday night.

But I could have picked any game and it wouldn't have worked. The Bolton game was the key, and that was totally fucked by the club's ticket giveaways. No one was going to turn up after that failure. I literally couldn't have been any more unlucky yet people still make snide remarks...

Sorry it was not meant as snide and I don’t know any of the background of the games you tried etc.

Boro will fill the bottom tier and will make some noise so would be good to fill the top tier with people who want to sing

I know it wasn't, I'm talking about other posters.

I'm not going to waste my time trying anything this season now. It's not worth my effort. If anyone else was to give it a go I'd back them completely. But there's not even been a hint of this happening.

To be honest just about any game now would be suitable. Especially as I've noticed that my target area is consistently empty. The attendance level in BLUT is just right for it now - plenty of space but not deserted.

Given where we are in the league and what's at stake it would really be a perfect time to try something. But people won't back it, so fuck em.

I'll have to try something if we get to Wembley though, when if no one else does.

I'd disagree but there you go. Thought we very much got behind them second half.

I understand you feel atmosphere should be proactive not reactive, but I reckon most people would probably feel that singing for 90 minutes even if a game is dross would feel a bit weird. Indeed, when other sides do similar with the aid of a drum etc. it's often viewed as tinpot.

If you're that bothered, I suggest you hop on Twitter and speak to representatives from Holmesdale Fanatics (Palace), The 1881 Movement (Watford) and Union FS (Leicester) for advice starting up a proper supporters group centred around atmosphere improvement.

Nigh on impossible. Just the way it's built and the way fans are spread. Although a large display or tifo before kick off would be incredible. If we get there.

I get that. It's not really that sort of non stop, make noise regardless thing I'd want or expect. Just avoid long periods of silence and have enough joining it to make it loud. At least support the team when

We'd have to aim for the lower tier behind the goal. Make that the 'Kop'.

Block, row and seat number details are here. I'd hope we could arrange something with the club.

I think for anything to get going it will have to be on the kop, where most of the “active” people are.
One of the times I came home for a weekend I sat in the upper tier to try it, don’t know if it was just for that game but there was nowhere to smoke. Sounds small but for a lot of the vocal people at the back of the kop that is an issue. The groups arnt going to break up.

Do yourself a favour, go to old Trafford, go to anfield got the bernabaeu and the nou camp

You will find that most football grounds are pretty quiet outside the big games

Or go and watch ice hockey or the darts

My best suggestion for anything on the Kop would be to get people to stand on the steps on both sides at the back of the E/F block. There's space there. It's always lacklustre in that block. If they piped up it would connect gangway G to D in the middle. Just a small number of vocal fans there could improve things quite a lot.

There's a bloke between D and C who keeps trying, bless him. Actually got some things going yesterday, too.

If we're looking for a proper comparison and barometer, let's take Wolves last season.

They were in a good position like us, only it was less of a surprise for them. Molineux was a fortress. It was very loud, the best I've witnessed since being back in this division. There's no reason we shouldn't be buzzing like they were. We've also had a longer absence from the PL.

Our Kop is shitter than theirs but that alone doesn't account for the difference. Our support now should be very similar to what theirs was.

When I last had a season ticket it was gangway E and tbh I thought it was good and generally whenever I get back I stand there.
I think the back of most gangways are vocal but the chants do not spread or do not spread in time with each other to produce any volume.
They all think they are the loud section but reality is there barely heard a few blocks along.
Best solution would be to have all those in one gangway but sadly I get the impression that most want to be at the back like a school kid at the back of a bus.

Our atmosphere as with every other ground is correlated to what's happening on the pitch.

Wasting your time with sensible comments like this.

They'll comment on how good the atmosphere was at Elland Road or Villa Park last season, conveniently ignoring the other times it's been crap.

You don't get great atmospheres every week anywhere. We'd all prefer it to be livelier more often but the game has changed or people don't know where the line. There is no West Terrace, and a few idiots in G and H block got it shut down.

Our atmospheres are no worse than anyone elses over the full season.

Every time I saw their games it was very loud.

Our game there was a comfortable win for them but it was still very impressive support wise.

And generally being worse than others has never been my angle. I'm not saying we are. I'm saying we could, and should be better than we are.
