I agree to a point providing the outer centre backs are mobile, but a back three doesn't really help the full backs learn to defend as the wing backs are more like deep playing attackers

I was not talking about teaching full backs how to play. I was saying that any centre back who can play in a back four will easily cope with 3 at the back.
You seem hung up on being mobile. Wright and O'Connell are certainly not mobile.... But they read the game and manage their negatives.
The best centre back of the last 10 years in England was John Terry. Again not mobile but he worked at covering his faults.
As I said before..... All our youngsters have faults ..... All of them. If not they would not be with us
