CONFIRMED Dean Hammond

I think he is a player who will instill confidence in the other players , and the age thing will not matter . ( first 6 yards in his head ) . Blokes in Leicester say circa £23k plus win bonus . Cannot see him taking a drop to come to the lane . He doesn't love us that much . Could it be we pay £3k and LC pay £20k , no idea , but a good signing .

After getting over the giddy spell , feet on ground time and calm the fuck down , as you rightly say.

I hope you are right I really do. The age comment is actually more about his inactivity but the flip side is that he's not been getting battered about week in week out for the past two years.

Leicester didn't want a loan.
Leicester wanted only a loan, but not with a view to a permanent deal which we favored.
Leicester wanted us to pay more towards his wages than we could/wanted to.
Leicester wanted more of a loan fee than we wanted to pay.
Leicester had injuries so killed the deal until they'd cleared up and there was no longer a risk on their side.
Hammond thought there were better options in for him ie Forest and only accepted the deal once that had definitely gone.

There's 6 to get you going.
So why persist when there are other options out there, when we are in need of a player for that position?

What sort of deal have we negotiated, is it with a view or what?

Have we payed what they wanted us to in the end? Or have they finally relented?

Are we paying a loan fee?

Leicester have had injuries but no where near enough for Hammond to get near their squad but if this was the case then we should have perhaps moved onto other targets, although admittedly we could have been looking at other targets so that could squash that assertion.

Your last assumption could be very true and that's perhaps the one i'd go with.

Ultimately, it's been a very interesting loan move with lots of questions asked with lots of different answers. Cheers Bob.

It seems that a lot of the Leicester fans think he is a mid-table Championship club player, not a Premiership player, and to be honest, I think this is the best thing we could attract at present.

I don't think this is the last new face we see at BDTBL between now and January, as NA has made it clear he also wants a CH as well. I assume he is working on that behind the scenes.

...because our management team decided he was the right player to go for, and one worth waiting for.

We'll have no idea of what made the deal happen, we can only speculate. Personally I'd suggest we caved in, given the results, and threw more money at it but I have no information to back that up apart from the fact that it's suddenly been completed after Adkins lost his rag.

Good point and it's good to see this Nigel not being happy with a point, very refreshing after last years many good well earned points.

...and if we'd gone for a different, cheaper option I'd like to bet there'd have been folk squawking about the Blades being cheap skates
There's a difference between spending money on quality and being utterly stupid.

John Brayford - £1.5m for a full back in league one - rings a bell.

Great signing

Genuine 100%er
Captained Leicester in the League Cup at the start of the season
Captained a promotion team or 2
Great experience, great leadership and will drive us forward and instil confidence

He's no longer a premiership calibre player but I'd have thought he'd be good enough to play in any Championship team.

But the club with the player has no say in things.

Top 5 Hammonds:
1. Wally Hammond - Cricket legend
2. Matt Hammond - The helicopter flying, Park Ranger dad in Skippy
3. Mark Hammond - The elder brother in Skippy
4. Sonny Hammond - the young son and friend of Skippy in Skippy
5. Hammonds Chop Sauce - Nice with a, er... chop.
I think Geoff Hammond played for Ipswich when we won 7-0 against them in Nov 1971 (Woody scoring four). The below picture is Geoff and he does look like Dean. Are they related?

Great news. This means we will, or at least could, strengthen in at least two different positions.

For now I hope we go with this:

Freeman Basham Collins Wallace
Baxter Hammond Reed
JCR Sharp Done

Not sure what the hold up was, and we will never know if his presence on the pitch would have changed a few results (Bury at home, Port Vale and Oldham away spring to mind), but at least we have him for now.

I'm inclined to speculate that results like Bury, Colchester, Bradford, Oldham, Port Vale would have been more likely to be 3 points each than the pathetic return we actually achieved!

Well done Adkins and the board, let's hope Hammond's signing helps the team to tighten up at both ends, so fewer goals conceded and a few more delivered at the other end.

Yes ..... credit where its due, we have achieved the first step on the road to addressing our glaring inadequacies in our current squad. Right Jim ...... on to CH & GK please .....

Possibly NA, following the debacle at high flying Oldham, ripped that superstar Big Mal a new one and told him "we're going to miss out on even the play-offs if you continue to f**k about like a wet flannel in your capacity as super-negotiator, and when the Prince and Jim ask me what went wrong I shall point them in your direction" !!

Big Mal .... concerned about the prospect of being dragged across the desert by his ba**s towed by a camel; decided to increase his offer of £250 per week and a bag of Werthers Originals towards Hammonds wages and Leicester said "he's on his way mate, don't damage him".

I sincerely hope he turns out to be one the missing pieces we needed to start the campaign, not 13 games in. We will wait and see, have concerns regarding first team football he will have played, fitness levels and his lack of pace (Leicester fans view). Regarded as a leader so that cant hurt. Personally not a great fan of loans, prefer permanent signings at a younger age with the chance of a sell on value, loans are money paid no return, KM complained bitterly about managers over using it, but that's where we are.
