David McGoldrick

If he had been playing at Sheffield United in his early twenties as he was in his 30s, we wouldn't have held onto him.
He would have been at a top club, no doubt

Cheers for sharing that CaptainMorgans , I’ve been out and about this evening so knew nowt of it.

As said by many, I don’t think McGoldrick has ever really given anyone a reason to dislike him. When he doesn’t score, never the less he still runs his socks off.

I’m really glad that he got this move to finish his career off, this was the club that had the biggest sentimental value to him after all. This doesn’t mean that he cares any less for any of his former employers, I genuinely feel he has been a loyal servant to his employers and when wearing a badge he has respected it completely.

He’s a dying breed of player.

Perhaps not the best player, but probably the best footballer I've had the privelege of watching live in a Blades shirt.

Maybe harsh on Berbatov but I don’t recall him having anywhere near the industry of McGoldrick.
Berbatov and Keane were a fantastic partnership at Spurs. Berbatov was certainly as much of creater as he was a scorer. Class player and seldom spoken of as a Premier League great.

I can't remember which match it was earlier this year, but McCallum had come on for Burrows and was deep into the opponents half when he received the ball. He faced the right back and instead of trying to take him on, he turned around and sent a long pass deep into our own half to a centre back. It was pathetic and frustrating to watch and killed our attack. I'd rather have someone like Hamer try to make something happen than players who just do what they're told and play safety first and kill our own attacks to "keep possession."

McCallum did exactly the opposite of that at Hillsborough three weeks ago. It was the last minute of injury time in their half and, instead of keeping possession, he tried to take on his man, lost it and Wednesday got a corner. If we’d conceded from that, people would have been asking why he didn’t just play safe.

I thought he stood in space waiting for the ball which was easily intercepted and led to a corner. Either way, it was abysmal and amateur and had me shouting at the telly.

Even now, I'd have him over O'Hare and Brewster.

Convinced he could get our attack ticking.

None of this quick transition stuff... let's get out foot on the ball in the oppositons final third, settle it down, get numbers up the field, play some combos... silks.

Some player.
League 2 v championship?

Superb player, one of our best of the last 10 years, certainly our best footballer. But he’s way past championship standard now.

League 2 v championship?

Did McGoldrick ever really rely on athleticism?

I doubt he's much worse than he was when we released him.

He's a much better footballer than either of our 10s.

Also, don't forget - he left Derby in League 1, having bagged 22 times in 39 games, to join Notts County in League 2.
He didn't fall through the leagues.

*He only didn't get many games for us in 21/22 because we had MGW, Ndiaye & Berge playing in a similar area.

Did you watch the game tonight though? League 2 is nowhere near the intensity of the championship.

He’s literally dropped down through the leagues in classic end of career style. He’s clearly looked after himself & done well to still be playing in L2. Ridiculous to think he could still cut it in the Championship, though.

It's not that classic to score 22 in 39 games in one league, then drop down a level.
My point is, he hasn't struggled since he left us.

I don't think he struggled before he left us particularly either. We were just extremely blessed to have Ndiaye, Berge & MGW all at once.

The intensity of Championship matches might take a toll on his body over the course of a full season... but if somebody told me McGoldrick was playing for us on Saturday against Cardiff I'd have absolutely zero qualms that he could do a very decent job.

You’re probably alone in that view. I doubt even Didzy believes it.

He has though. Notts County fans were distinctly underwhelmed at him last season and he did struggle, with them saying his legs had gone etc etc.

He's done himself proud this season. And aye, I am pathetic enough to have gone to watch them 3 or 4 times to watch him roll back the years. To be honest, he does look his age, makes mistakes, struggles a bit. But he's a class above that level so when he does things right, it's a bloody lovely reminder.

Nowhere near Championship level though and why would he be- but I appreciate the sentiment, he was a pleasure to watch in a side where many were.
