Player Suggestion David Brooks

What’s your solution then? Easy to take pot shots and moan; what realistically can we do? And before you start, signing a crock like Wilshere or spending £40m+ on Brooks are not realistic solutions to the current predicament.
Surely a Brooks/Cantwell/Buendia would have pushed for a loan move to united? Or even a 25m bid would have got one of those.

Current predicament? Not a dig at Wilder or Ramsdale but we paid 18.5m for a keeper and other good goalkeepers like Butland went for 1m. 🤷

Butland is atrocious.
Also on a bigger salary than any of our players (as would most ACTUAL top level keepers).

Palace have literally taken a punt on Butland being a temporary 2nd choice keeper. He's basically their third choice - they may hope there's a 1/100 chance a change of scenery will remind him how to be a proper goalie like he was some time ago.

Overall it's strange to doubt the Ramsdale signing - Wilder and Ward even worked with him before. Keeper an essential position. Plus widely reported it wasn't £18mill.

Never said it was but why have we let Freeman go on loan without a replacement he is the natural attacking midfielder and he has gone it makes no sense without replacing him with an attacking midfielder on loan at the very least.

What makes you think that's the case? Seriously: what are you basing it on? Why do some of our fans seem to think that players will fall over themselves to sign for us, just because we're in our second season in the Premier League? We had a poor end to last season, and a poor start to this, so players might well think twice before coming to us. Secondly, the teams for whom they play might not want or need to sell. Thirdly, we've spent a fucking shit-load of cash, and £25m isn't loose change we can find behind the sofa.

Butland is yesterday's man, and there are serious questions about whether he can ever fulfil the promise he showed as a youngster. Seriously, how long is it since he's been good? Ramsdale has potential and youth on his side, and is the current England U21 first-choice keeper. You simply can't compare the two.

Because Freeman didn't fit in with the way we played, for about the millionth time. There was no point keeping a player who was never going to feature in our formation, and for that exact reason there was no point in replacing him either. Whether we should change formation is another question entirely, and one that's not without merit, but it doesn't matter how many times you ask the question about why Freeman went and wasn't replaced, the answer remains the same. You just need to accept it.

He wanted to go and play regular football at Forest. We probably got a couple of million loan fee and his wages off the books.

We don't need/can't afford a replacement number 10 (which Freeman was, and had become 3rd choice LCM here).

There is a January transfer window in just over 2 months time... So if we're still floundering, we can potentially sign more players then.

Why did we court swift then?

I think Freeman is potentially the long term replacement for Fleck. He just arrived a season too soon to make any real impact.
Noe that Fleck is injured and out of form, questions will rightly be asked about our choices regarding Freeman, who is still our player.

Back on topic, except this probably belongs in the ‘unpopular views’ thread. As far as Brooks is concerned, I agree with the poster who said that Brooks was either awesome or pants, when he last played for United. He is no longer our player, and has potential injury problems. We have enough of those right now thank you.

He's only made one appearance for them this season.
An unused sub a couple of times, missing completely from the squad on others.

You've got to worry about whether he's capable of stringing consecutive games together. Will be interesting to see how he does down there.

He's either not fully fit or downed tools, both are great really

Cantwell has done the same for Norwich apparently

Yeah Wilder's best mate is Tier 5 is he???
Biggs is Wilder’s best mate? I know he graced the Sheffield Live sofa once, but I think you’re reading too much into their onscreen chemistry.

As for Wit, he’s unclassified. Wilder mate he may be, he doesn’t seem to comment much on transfers so his record if there is one is very tough to pin down. This could be the test case. Though frankly difficult to distinguish his thumb up as “yeah it’s happening you legend Biggsy” or “yes I’d quite like to see that”.

OH. MY. GOD.... It's happening.... Wit says so

I, er, love to see it.

But reading the article, it's just the kind of argument I was making throughout September. We would want him and it is technically feasible. No real basis or meat to it.

If Bournemouth look like they may bounce straight back up I suspect they'll hold on to Brookes. If by January that dream is toast I can see him heading out - particularly if he's still not playing much. Whether it's to us or somewhere else remains to be seen. Being a championship bench warmer would have to bring the asking price down but would also mean he's not match fit.

Similar story for Cantwell, although I think he's a tool so hope he goes elsewhere or lives out his days as a medium size goldfish in a small East Anglican pond.

We probably need to make sure we aren't rock bottom come January then.

Not sure he's the answer.
Anybody who is definitely the answer we either can't afford or wouldn't come to us. We need players who can beat a man not just pass it sideways and there aren't too many of them around, Brooks is one but can he stay injury free?

I don’t think he’s the type of player to rely on to drag us up the table tbh, too lightweight and has questionable defensive attributes.

We need a player like him big time. Come on scouts find someone quick
