20 year old attacking midfielder from Brighton can play as a 10 or outwide and I think he could even play further back as a conventional CM. He’s comfortable with both feet so he’s a versatile creative player and likes to carry the ball forward he’s also capable of moments of magic. He’s also an England Under 20 international.
He’s nowhere near the finished article he still needs to improve his all round game and add another level of consistency but he has real talent.
He’s spent this year on loan at Reading making over 40 appearances and doing well in a side that’s finished top half of league one.
He wouldn’t be a day one starter for us but as a development player to come in and immediately add depth and athleticism from the the bench with a view to hopefully continuing his development and being a real top end championship creative player in 2-3 years he’s one I think we should be looking at. He’s at an age now where he might find himself squeezed out at Brighton this summer for a very reasonable fee and if so we should be interested.
I know Wilder has spoken about wanting to add experience to the starting 11 but counter balancing that with a player like Doyle with his athleticism from the bench this year and to grow into a starter would be a shrewd move.
We’re unlikely to be in a position now where we can sign young players who are already the finished article so finding players like Doyle coming out of the top academies who have done well on loan below the championship but who will be surplus to their parent clubs is a sensible avenue we should be exploring.
