Boro have offered him a deal with a pay rise, it’s on the table for him as is our offer. It’s all gonna be down to the player but our offer is in place with him and boro.

He's openly said he wants to stay at Boro and is on Twitter denying to fans that he's priced himself out of a move.
He also loves Carrick.

I think he'll stay there but then again... I probably would say that.

He could possibly have gone back and asked them to offer same

Otherwise why not just announce he is staying on Sat home opener

He would already have agreed and signed new deal by now wouldn’t he

Depends how much Akpom wants to have a full season of premier league football as a likely starter.

Doesn't come now then there's a good chance he doesn't accomplish it ever in his career.

I was impressed with him last season as everyone would be. He comes across as moody and maybe that fed into a proving everyone wrong season. Hoping that isn't the end of the 'proving everyone wrong' journey, if and when he joins us. At least our salary shouldn't stereotypically debilitate his mindset.

Everyone was impressed with him last season but he’s almost 28 years of age.

What about the 10 years prior to last season when he’s done very little.

The doubters wonder if he could be a 1 season wonder, so it’s a risk. However the low wish price seems to be taking this into account.

Two clubs want him, how high are they willing to go? I wouldn't be in any rush if I were him..
If he wants to stay and has been offered a new deal and pay rise you would think either he signs there and then, as he has what he wants

Or he doesn’t want to stay as much as he makes out he does

Do we even want him?

I'm pretty sure that the stats last season indicated that everything he hit went in, what's to say he's going to reproduce that again?

Our relegation clause will kill any hopes we have of signing Akpom.
He either re-signs for Boro and gets a guaranteed £35k p/w (estimated) for three years, and the only way that salary will change is if Boro get promoted in that time, then he will get a big pay rise you would imagine.
Or he signs for us for £35k p/w (estimated) where his slary will drop to £20k (ish) if we're relegated.
Hmmmm.

It’s alright signing him but we’ve got no one to create a chance for him🤦‍♂️

My gut feeling is he'll stay at Boro. They'll just need to offer him 35k or so

I don't think he's one who'll be desperate to play in the PL at all costs

I don't think he'll want to risk making last season a one off, playing for a poor team in a hard league

And I don't think it's like us to not fuck about and do what's needed to be done to sign a good player

But that's just what I think, please leave a comment below and don't forget to subscribe

Boro can't afford that. They have serious FFP issues.

Here we go again

Negative , Negative

Yeah
Let’s not get anyone in , nothing will work for us, & we’ll only last half a season.

Every player that’s never scored 500 goals in the premier will never step up,
If he’s over 23 he’s too old.

Get a grip

If we get him he will score for us,
Boro will struggle this season & he probably won’t get premiership football with them anytime soon

Gerim in, and if the whingers on the site don’t want to go & watch him, that’s a bonus

A Hull supporting pal said he was gash for them, but no arguing how good he was last season. I'd welcome him.

Anyone writing a player off before he's even signed (if) just remember mcgoldrick he had not done anything special then what did he do for us?? Akpom not really done anything til last season but that can be managers he's played for and style they played he didn't fit, if hecky signes him, us as true fans need to back every player if we are to have any chance off staying in the prem

If the club has any indication from Villa that Archer may come on loan, then it might be worth offering a few bob more to Chubz, so we have a shot at re-creating a proven partnership.

If Archer looks beyond us, it’s a meh re Akpom. (Other than the fact that predictive text thinks he’s called Appomattox).

We'd be signing him a few months before he hits the cliched prime football age of 28 for a supposed fee of about £8m. Looking at his stats from last season versus every other one up until 2022, he certainly seems to fit that cliche. You'd expect the length of contract he'd be given would cover that prime period of approximately 3-4 years.

Burnley paid £15m for Chris Wood - who also had one comparable season to Akpom back in 16-17 - although he was admittedly younger by 3 years. Wood went on to score 49 in 144 appearances at a rate better than 1 in 3, before selling him to Newcastle for £25m.

I really don't see this as a dead-end signing, and if he was able to get around 1 in 3 Premier goals for the duration of his contract with us similar to Chris Wood for Burnley, it'd rank as one of our best modern-day signings on paper at least.

This ITK or just your thoughts? Nixon saying we haven't bid at all

We paid £0 for McGoldrick, bit of a difference to the sums being discussed here.

I'm not saying he won't turn out to be good but I don't think he'll be the solution to our myriad of problems either. We need someone behind him to give him chances unless he scores worldies all the time.

Hmmmm.
How do these Chsmpionship clubs pay such wages yet get around FFP rules ?
Isn’t it Gibson who’s always complaining about other Championship clubs escaping punishment ?

Sounds like a total mercenary - I know money talks (especially to agents) but you’d hope that incomers also see us as progression in their career , not just a host animal upon which to gorge themselves
