It staggers me that they've dived straight into this crazy level of spending given the trouble they were in with FFP only a matter of months ago.
The pressure the manager will be under if they get a bad start ,none of their signings make you sit up and take notice they will be hoping they all hit tge ground running

Villas owners are billionaires money won't be a problem, different ball game now.

All their eggs in one basket, 100% commitment to staying in the Prem. It's a gamble, but they are a genuine 'big' club and l suspect if Utd were in their shoes (multiple years in the Prem) we'd all be critical if the club played it safe, when the opportunity came again.

Makes you realise how tough recruitment will be so let’s cut CWAK some slack about the time our signings are taking . Matt Targett , £17m ?? You are having a laugh !! We would be in meltdown if we’d paid that for him , as ever UTB !!

Hopefully that's villa spent up
They must have spent well over the prize money ( tv monies) for one season already

Villa have just flogged their stadium to themselves for £60 million so they've still got money to burn. You can get almost four Matt Targetts for that.

I would be in meltdown if we paid half that for him!

They haven't exactly gone down the Wolves route. I don't see the signings they have made so far, as one which will help solidify

Isn't recruitment about creating a team not individuals, Wilder seems to prefer that route. Haven't a clue about the Villa signings but clearly their manager feels they will improve the team who knows any signing is a gamble. I would like to see a signing for the Blades to get a sense of were we are doing our shopping.

That is great on a limited budget, but blowing up to 17m on Taggart is madness IMO. All I am saying if you're going to blow 100m which they could easily do at this rate then get some established players in. You could probably pick up Ben Davies from Spurs for left who is certainly a better player, however I do get the potential just not 17m of potential when you want to build.

I'd be criticising Villa if Bruce was still in charge but Dean Smith is a sensible manager who has learned his trade at lower levels and is a Villa fan. This is the first time hes been given serious money to spend and he is doing so.

Much like us I suspect Villa fans will be saying in Dean we trust.

Plenty of our relegation rivals are splashing the cash, let's hope our new arrivals are here very soon.

Young UK players come at a premium, I think Wilder will be discovering this. Who knows Wilders targets, but names being mentioned will cost serious money and are any established players, presume that means Premiership players, then that's a NO. As I say, we are in a different pond now regarding transfers.

Were they in FFP trouble, or was it just cash flow?

SAINTS CLOSE ON ADAMS
Southampton are close to agreeing a deal with Birmingham for striker Che Adams, Sky Sports News understands.
Talks have progressed since an initial bid was turned down a month ago and the clubs are discussing a fee in the region of £15m.
Adams is expected to travel to the south coast for a medical and talks over personal terms in the next 24 hours.

I think there was a period where they weren't allowed to spend as they would have exceeded their FFP limit.

I'm pleased to see them spending in the way they are now. They're overpaying for average players and that's not healthy. It could very easily go tits up. A positive for us is that they're unlikely to be in for any more of our targets, because obviously they're beneath them.

Which raises the question, what value is Stevens in the current mad market? £12-15m?

I’m not sure to be honest, I’d say less than that despite how good he is. Probably looking at £7m-£10m.

However using the standard transfer market equation, if he was English and under 25, he’d be worth about £20m.

How the fuck do fees get this high.

Barmy.

Rising in line with revenue in the game. That has increased massively through Sky TV, BT Sport and billionaire owners. If rumours are to be believed its not long til Amazon, Google and Netflix join the party. So in the near term fees are only.going in one direction.

Are they rising in line though?

The prices Champ clubs are asking other Champ clubs for players when neither have parachute payments is ludicrous imho

If clubs came calling for our players, hopefully we would ask stupid money, that's football. Don't begrudge any club trying to get top dollar for their best assets, especially when they know how much money is swilling around in the Premiership.

Who cares what clubs pay as long as it brings success 🙄 I could not care less what we pay as we invest on quality players.

A polite enquiry; as an alternative, what if it were to bring debt too?

Were we to buy someone who contributed the success we all hope for then we'd all appreciate this, but if you're suggesting a policy of buy at any cost, then the answer is, of course, no. Our bredren over at S6 paid £10 million for a forward and that proved to be a massive mistake.

I'm not against spending, but given that we've just been promoted I think we need to box clever and allow Wilder to do what he does best.

They've risen beyond that already but I only realised that when you find out how far £100 million will get you; we need 20 odd million to repay the owners and ground and academy i
mprovements
, I imagine with bonuses and new wages the wage bill will easily hit £40m leaving £40M for transfers, enough to get you 3 insomnia inducing signings if you are Villa. Luckily we're not fishing in that pond...

Yes they are...which championship clubs are paying ludicrous fees that havent recently been in the premiership or have mega rich owners
