These stats sites drive me mad. Just noticed One isn't on this list. He has 1 yellow, FYI. Will find (yet) another source next time

Updated following Coventry game (game 16). Table shows only yellows, so doesn't reflect Anel's red.

Whilst at the game yesterday, with Souttar’s 2 yellows, it got me wondering…

I believe the EFL rule is that the first yellow you received in a game is added to your yellow cards total, but if you get a second yellow, it doesn’t count, but of course the red leads to a suspension

With Souttar’s case, he was on 2 total yellows for the season, going into the game yesterday. His first yellow added to his total, but the second didn’t. So now he is on a total of 3 yellows for the season, with one red. Fine

However….I was wondering… what if a player went into a game on 4 yellows? Would their first yellow take them to a total of 5, leading to a one game suspension, and the second yellow leading to a red card, and an additional game suspension?

I can’t recall this happening, but it must have at some point, so I’m not sure if my understanding of the regs is right. Anyone?

P.S I will update the table tomorrow.

Would still be a one-game ban. FA doesn't "double punish" with suspensions.

I think it does yes, I don't think it happens too often but it would result in 2 match ban, 1 for the second yellow/red card and 1 for the accumulation of 5 yellow cards.

Might be wrong here but, each time you receive a second yellow sending off during a single season, doesn't that add an additional game to your match ban?

For example, 1st second yellow sending off = 1 match ban, 2nd second yellow sending off = 2 match ban etc.

Seem to recall Wes having a 2 match ban for a professional foul red card (against Burnley) in 22/23 season, which was his second red card that season, hence why it was a 2 match ban (Bristol City and Cardiff) rather than a 1 match ban.

You sure? That would mean there is no punishment for the second yellow (red) beyond going down to 10 men for the remainder of that one game

Surprised Peck has 2 yellows 🤣

Looks like Souza , Hamer , Anel & Souttar will get their tenth card before game 37.
Does that bring a 2- match ban ?
Need to ensure they're not all banned at the same time !

Player on 4 yellows gets 2 yellows in a game, it’s a one game ban (for the red) with them back on 4 yellows at the end. Happened to Bissouma last season.

Understood. That's how it is in the A-League too, from memory, but Souttar was on 2 yellows prior to Friday, but ended on 3

Cappy Had a 3am thought last night - you should introduce manager yellow cards to this. Wilder got his second booking of the season I believe on Friday night, and I think one more gives him a touchline ban!

Shit, you should have rang me straight away 😅

I will update now. Good idea. I shall find some facts out about suspensions etc

Question ,
Apparently RND sent off in U21 game this afternoon.
Does this result in any kind of ban and if so , does it count for WBA this Sunday ?

20 yellows for a manager in a season would take some doing.

Wonder if its ever been done

Are they still suspended for 2 games even if they haven`t already served a suspension? Or is it that if you served a suspension for reaching 5 then you get a 2 game ban, but otherwise its a 1 game ban?

I believe it's two, regardless of any prior suspension. I got the info from the FA's 'player essentials' pack, which can be downloaded from here:

At this rate, Souza and Ahmedhodzic will be hitting their next suspension at exactly the week when we next play Leeds. Gus will have already served a suspension by then (probably in January) at the rate he’s going …
