Would still be a one-game ban. FA doesn't "double punish" with suspensions.Whilst at the game yesterday, with Souttar’s 2 yellows, it got me wondering…
I believe the EFL rule is that the first yellow you received in a game is added to your yellow cards total, but if you get a second yellow, it doesn’t count, but of course the red leads to a suspension
With Souttar’s case, he was on 2 total yellows for the season, going into the game yesterday. His first yellow added to his total, but the second didn’t. So now he is on a total of 3 yellows for the season, with one red. Fine
However….I was wondering… what if a player went into a game on 4 yellows? Would their first yellow take them to a total of 5, leading to a one game suspension, and the second yellow leading to a red card, and an additional game suspension?
I can’t recall this happening, but it must have at some point, so I’m not sure if my understanding of the regs is right. Anyone?
P.S I will update the table tomorrow.
Up The Yellow Card Blades
I think it does yes, I don't think it happens too often but it would result in 2 match ban, 1 for the second yellow/red card and 1 for the accumulation of 5 yellow cards.However….I was wondering… what if a player went into a game on 4 yellows? Would their first yellow take them to a total of 5, leading to a one game suspension, and the second yellow leading to a red card, and an additional game suspension?

Surprised Peck has 2 yellowsUpdated following Game 18 - Sunderland (H).
Nobody can now pick up a yellow card suspension before game 20, where it changes to 10 cards, from 5.

- 19 games
- After 19 games, players who have five yellow cards will not be suspended for a game.
- 37 games
- After 37 games, players who have not received their tenth yellow card will not be banned if they do receive one.
- 46 games
- If a player receives 15 yellow cards in the 46-game regular season, they will be suspended for three games.
- If a player receives 20 yellow cards by the end of the season, a regulatory commission will determine their punishment
YesLooks like Souza , Hamer , Anel & Souttar will get their tenth card before game 37.
Does that bring a 2- match ban ?
Player on 4 yellows gets 2 yellows in a game, it’s a one game ban (for the red) with them back on 4 yellows at the end. Happened to Bissouma last season. You sure? That would mean there is no punishment for the second yellow (red) beyond going down to 10 men for the remainder of that one game
Understood. That's how it is in the A-League too, from memory, but Souttar was on 2 yellows prior to Friday, but ended on 3Player on 4 yellows gets 2 yellows in a game, it’s a one game ban (for the red) with them back on 4 yellows at the end. Happened to Bissouma last season.
Shit, you should have rang me straight awayCappy Had a 3am thought last night - you should introduce manager yellow cards to this. Wilder got his second booking of the season I believe on Friday night, and I think one more gives him a touchline ban!

Updated following Game 18 - Sunderland (H).
Also now includes manager yellows, as requested by billyblademan

Are they still suspended for 2 games even if they haven`t already served a suspension? Or is it that if you served a suspension for reaching 5 then you get a 2 game ban, but otherwise its a 1 game ban?Updated following Game 19 - WBA (A)
Suspension limit now changes to 10 yellows up to and including game 38
