Thanks for your patience :D Pod is out now. Talked about that brilliant first half, the sleepy second and weird passivity from Wilder / the players, a bit about Barnsley in the cup and also another impressive showing from the U21s. Cheers for listening!

Grumpy Beans is back, or maybe he never went away..

Hi all, new pod is out - Roygbiv and I didn't see the Norwich game but did go to the Barnsley one, so we touch on those but mainly spend this one cleaning up every bit of transfer news ahead of Friday's deadline - including our ideal end to the window - as well as previewing Watford at home. Cheers for listening.

Gone early with this one fellas….. if the bad news from up the M1 hits in the next 48 hours…..

Afternoon all,

Roygbiv is away in another of his WiFi blackspots, and I'd been intending to do a bonus episode about United Women before their season started anyway, so thought this was a good opportunity to double up and cover both the men's team's win over Watford (a home win at last!) and then the current state of Sheffield United Women ahead of their first game this weekend. I was very pleased to have Anna Kent joining me for this one - Blades fan and vice chair of Rainbow Blades - and really enjoyed chatting to her about what's been a difficult year for United Women, culminating in a summer of upheaval and now finally some green shoots ahead of the new campaign.

If you're not familiar with the women's side of the club and would like a bit of a primer, I think we covered pretty much everything that's gone on over the last twelve months in this episode, as well as some players to look out for when the new campaign kicks off.

Thanks very much for listening.

Thanks again for the pod . Enjoyed it

Agree, Ben and his guest spoke so well. It was interesting hearing about women's football and the latest on the SUFC women's team.

You made a good point and how financial support in the women's game is becoming very hit and miss.
Some clubs can't or (like Man Utd) don't want to fund their women's team so the future isn't as rosy as the media present.
However there are exceptions like Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea who do fund their women's clubs properly but then you can end up with a Scottish football situation when it's the same 2 or 3 teams at the top of the league every single year.....a large distance ahead of all the other teams.

Also we thought the SUFC mens team had it bad regards its failure to sort out player contracts
....but the SUFC women's team were left to rot with no decisions regards its present and future.

Good pod as ever.

Very much enjoyed Anna's comment on her reaction to the early goal. I'm not one to immediately worry like that, but the longer we went without scoring a 2nd, the more tense I got.

Nice to hear some discussion of the women's game too, both the Blades team and more generally. I don't follow women's football outside of what I see on twitter, so it was enlightening for me to say the least.

Listened to the lad two pods back to back this morning. Excellent work as ever and Anna was an excellent guest and came over really well.
Well our worst fears did not materialise in that Gus is still here, however no further incomings either so we’d better pray the first team stays fit.
Unfortunately Izzy Goodwin has gone but hopefully any income from the sale will be reinvested in the women’s team.

Afternoon all,

Roygbiv is back from his jollies so we caught up on the win over Hull, particularly a smart gameplan from United and eye-catching performances from Hamer, Ahmedhodzic and Gilchrist. We then cast our eye over the end of the transfer window and the squad situation as a whole, before staking some chip butties on some semi-outlandish predictions for the rest of the season. Finally, a look ahead to the game with Derby this weekend. Cheers for listening!

Most likely potential callup you missed was Ohare if he decides to give up on England ambition and makes himself available for Ireland

Beat Leyton Orient 6-0 in FA Cup on 7th Nov 2016

Beat Morecombe 5-0 in League Cup on 26 Sept 2007

But last win by a 5 goal margin in the league was over 20 years ago...

Beat Rotherham 5-0 on 16 Sept 2003 in a game where McCall was starting, Tonge got the first followed by 2 for Pesch and 2 for Ndlovu

Obviously theres been plenty of games we've scored 5 during those times (5-2 against Burnley for example) but not actually winning by a 5 goal margin

I just searched through 2 decades of results for exactly that information, thought I'd come here to share it and here we have a smart alec who got there almost 24 hours ago. Bet you feel big and clever now jono 😂
Also I lol'd at the idea of Bettis manning several offices on his own and phoning himself.

I’m sure someone posted on here that Brooks for Jamaica is potentially on the cards.
With every possible respect to the Jamaican national team, Brooks may be well advised to not make that decision for a year or two. There’s a player in there. Unlikely he makes England but deciding now rules him out forever I think?

This article explains it well and covers some of the nuances

Listened to the latest podcast today while sat on a sunbed in Majorca looking out to sea. Normal service will be resumed next time when I’ll be sitting on a train to sunny Rotherham.
Really enjoyed the pod. Great work as ever Beans and Roygbiv

Told you we'd be back to normal scheduling this week :)

Roygbiv and I discuss the win over Derby as part of an emotional week for the fanbase, and look ahead to Portsmouth this weekend. Thanks very much for listening.

This is the highlight of my audio entertainment for the week; much appreciated as always.
