Here we go - thanks for your patience to everyone who was waiting for it - Roygbiv and I celebrate ANOTHER WIN, and talk about the immediate changes Wilder has made to the team, the improved performances of Souza, Archer and Hamer, an eyecatching cameo from Anis Slimane, and our upcoming trip to Chelsea.

Recording tomorrow all being well
I thought that Wilder’s appointment would arrest this slack podding we have seen all season! Tufty’s upped their game with an early release, I reckon you two need to reconnect with your fans. My Monday evening dog walk requires a Bladespod to sift through the weekend’s shite whilst I pick up the dog’s!

Afternoon all,

Here's the latest episode with Roygbiv talking Chelsea, Villa and Luton, plus a few odds and ends covering Oli Arblaster, RND, Billy Sharp and more.

No pod after Villa cos it's Christmas innit, we'll do another one after the Luton game. Thanks for listening and happy Christmas!

All of it or just up to when they start plugging stuff?

No adverts and all the plugs come at the end, after being well flagged up so no grumbles from me.

Bladespod has got better over the years, with superb consistent sound quality and good content. Ben's more considered stats based approach works really well with our own angry man ROY (and his allegedly grumpy dad).

Contrast that with Not The Top Twenty, which started around a similar time. They seem to have got very smug and spend all the time trying to get people to vote for them in podcast awards, push their subscription thing down your throat and generally give the impression they are doing you a big favour.

Keep up the great work lads.

Yeah but they have ruined Xmas

I don’t agree re NTT20. It’s too long now (but all podcasts get worse the longer they are over an hour), and they do mention the NTT20 Squad or whatever a lot, but (I) they are trying to make a living from their content so it’s a bit more excusable and (2) it’s still the best source of general EFL content by a country mile (well, Ben Bloom also has an argument).

Most importantly, like Bladespod, they do not waste excessive time talking about themselves or things that are irrelevant to the Pod. Even Bladespods plugging is mainly about United related stuff, so it’s usually useful.

Compare that to the Price of Football, where someone really needs to tell Kevin Day to shut up, or the Sheff Utd way pod, which I gave up on after they failed to mention, er, Sheffield United in the 12 mins I listened for. Or dare I say it, Tufty Club, which was twice as good at half the length IMHO.

People forget they have an audience. I don’t think Roy and Beans have done that. It’s been the best Blades pod for several years now.

I listen to a tonne of sports and other podcasts. Probably 2-3 hours per day - before work, traveling, bedtime.

BladesPod is in my top 5% easily. Informative in terms of opinion and perspectives, and entertaining. And the hosts are incredibly likable.

I wonder if it’s a choice to have dropped the sponsors, because surely there’s a few quid in it if you push for it? As a listener though, I definitely don’t mind advert free entertainment

Keep up the great work Beans and Roygbiv. Will buy you a pint/similar if I ever bump into you at an away game.

Merry Christmas to you, yours, and indeed all the S2 faithful

I think Ben finds it too much of a hassle with the sponsorship and adverts. If it was up to me it would be 55 minutes of adverts and 5 minutes of football chat and we'd be hosting every week from our yacht.

Agreed, Bladespod is a drop everything pod that I would interupt other listening for. Thanks both of you for all you do!

Ah, Kevin 'man of the people' Day - did you know he's from Sarf Landan and of good Oirish Catholic stock? How I laugh at his hilarious Quinoa and Humus jokes aimed at Brighton fans - ho ho ho.

I think you are being very harsh on the Tufty Club. Most of their charm, is the unfocussed inane rambling about big coats, bin day and Wales Comp, with a bit of footy getting in the way. A bit like have a lovable uncle, sat in the corner rambling away.

I can cope with a bit of big coat rambling.

Listening to 40 mins of it before the game is mentioned is starting to grate a bit, to say the least, but horses for courses, I suppose.

A decent episode, but who was the impostor pretending to be ROY?

The obvious giveaways were his overly reasonable views and no rants about other fans - bring back the Real Roy!

Bladespod is the only podcast I listen to. It's been consistently excellent. I actually think it's better now than when the onus was on the analytics of the game, although that's interesting, I prefer to hear the opinions of Ben and Andrew and they usually reflect my own views too.

They are doing you a big favour, NTT20 is properly brilliant and free to listen to - rarely with a few ads.

I was making the point, that it isn't what it was.

In 2016/17, they were two really keen football fans, sharing their knowledge of the EFL in a new and very positive way.

Now they are making a living from it, it is has a pushier more commercial tone. I agree that the content remains strong, it's just that it doesn't have the same feel it had before.

Fair enough if you think they are doing you a big favour, but I don't. It's just not my 'seeded batch'.

All fair.

I just feel their commercial tone is indicative of their keen football fandom. They want to do it full time and earn a decent living from it while improving the quality.

I quite like that we've got a few pods now that are all quite unique in their own way. Bladespod is the only one I listen to regularly I would say but that's because I like how there's no fannying about discussing what they've had for tea for the last week or how Beans burnt his tongue on a balti pie and couldn't taste his pint after the match. It's just two measured fans that I think largely represent the majority view and it's a good listen.

Sheff United Way seem to have the inside track on a lot of things but that probably brings about a lot of the ex-player interviews they get so I listen to that more for the odd episode.

I'm sure most fans are appreciative of any fan content that is produced, and so we should be. Even our vloggers seem to be better than other teams' rather than having some mumbling kid pissing and whining about how shit his team are while we all have to stare up his nostrils as they can't hold a camera properly.
