Afternoon all, well, he gone, and Roygbiv and I have our final word on the departure of our best player and where it leaves United - including a RALLYING CRY for the new season. Next, we stake some chip butties on some outside-the-box predictions for the season (with thanks to the Around the NFL podcast for yet another idea I've merrily cribbed) including whether the Prince will still own United at the end of it, and whether United will record more wins than league goals scored by Billy Sharp this season.

Cheers for listening if you do so!

Pigeon bit was excellent. Top effort lads

Our hopes rest entirely on the back line being solid as fuck…if they are, we might just make it to 10 points

The back 5 is arguably ok (with RND instead of Lowe/Larouci it would be good)!

The rest…I’d rather not speak
We could have the best back 5 in the world but they'd still struggle with the 'shield' they'll get from that midfield.

Beans don't work for free

(Full disclosure, it'll cover a couple of pre-match pints every week, but better than nowt)
It certainly is!

Oh, enjoyed the pod too, fellas, though I was disturbed to see that I’m not the only one whose main worries involve not being the worst side in top flight history!

I really do think that Derby points total is one of those sporting records that will never, ever be broken without a points deduction. Look how terrible we were in 20/21 and we still won seven games. I don't care about any "jinx" potential before anyone chimes in, if that dreadful 20/21 team could scrape to 23 points then this one certainly can. The fact we got 23 points despite only drawing two games (!) and scoring the joint-lowest ever amount of goals should show how hard it is to be that incompetent.

I am braced for a rather painful season and don't doubt the Derby thing will be rearing its head for at least a couple of months, though...

Surely the Guardian/Observer money at the weekend would be a slap-up meal for you, Mrs Beans and the junior Beans?

Haha that one they don't actually pay for, it's only 2-3 times a season though so doesn't take much time. Plus I used to really enjoy reading them myself when they first started doing them about 20 years ago and narcissistically imagined having my own words in there at some point!

I have to say I tend to agree with this. As I said at the time, all of our new signings were a bust, we had crippling injuries, we had no crowd, we made some terrible unforced errors...and yet we won 7 games. We got more points than Norwich did the season after.

I suppose it really proves how special that Derby season was.

I think a worst case scenario is sub-20 points, but sub 12 points seem a very remote possibility.

Afternoon all, well the new season's almost here, and Roygbiv and I have mapped out "how to avoid relegation" aka what needs to go right for us to stay up this season, and how likely we think each one is to happen. We do also cover the Berge sale, the Souza signing, and general state of things on the eve of the season. Cheers for listening, and UTB!

top stuff, you've done a fantastic job of articulating my frustrations :)

Wanted to listen to this before the game on Saturday but ran out of time. I just got to this point:

Things that need to go right for us to stay up....
Unbelievable change of luck with injuries - likelihood 1/10. Ben's quote "Can you imaging if Baldock gets injured with Bogle out"? Ahem .

Afternoon all, apologies for the delay on this for anyone who was waiting - didn't manage to find time until now. Latest episode is here with Roygbiv and me relishing the Lionesses' win over Australia, discussing the arrivals of Gustavo Hamer and Tom Davies, and picking out a few points of interest (!) from the opening day defeat to Crystal Palace.

Cheers for listening, and UTB!
