I don't know exact figures but £2-3m up front and 20% of £50m, so total around £12m (I think).
So not terrible for a kid who'd played 2 games for us. Clearly with hindsight we'd have wanted more upfront but he was a talented kid.
The unsavory bit would be if the stories were true that they weren't interested in him until we threw him in extra.

Yeah it must have been, looking at the content of the quotes - he'd only played 5 times for us I think by that stage whereas Naughton had just finished a very impressive full season. Still surprised to see people thinking we got a good deal there though, especially how Walker played in that playoff final!
Naughton was outrageously good for us. I'm still surprised his career peaked with a couple of unspectacular seasons at Spurs (though obviously that's an incredible achievement in itself for a player).

Which is widely acknowledged as what happened.

Naughton was heading to Everton until McCabe started throwing Walker into the deal.

Afternoon all, well, it's here, our Billy Sharp tribute episode. We talk a bit about the released / retained list generally, and touch on the departure of O'Connell and Enda, but decided that Sharp deserves his own episode so will focus on those two on the next one. The rest of this one is all about the skipper: what it meant as fans having Sharp as captain during a successful (and occasionally unsuccessful) time for United, plus our ten favourite Billy Sharp goals.

Thanks for listening, and UTB!

Thanks for your kind comments about my Billy stats post - I’m glad you found it if some use in preparing the pod.

Was a fantastic read. Actually some more of your research was a big help yesterday (courtesy of the search box) for the next bit of my Pinch article on the 101 best Blades of the last 25 years, when I was trying to work out how the record books had Marcelo as only scoring 19 goals in 1998/99 when I was sure he'd scored 20. You'd provided the answer a few years back!

Afternoon all, here's our Jack O'Connell and Enda Stevens farewell episode, following our Sharp tribute last week. Weirdly found these two a little harder to talk about than Sharp, possibly because I feel kind of "robbed" of more time with them at their peak - O'Connell for obvious reasons, Stevens for less-obvious ones. So even though it's been three years now for both of them, I'm still sad to see them go. And, as Roygbiv and I discuss here, they were bloody, bloody good before lockdown.

Thanks for listening and UTB!

Really enjoyed the latest pod on JOC and Enda Defenda. I too was an Enda Defenda when he was getting flak in his first season. Still think there were underlying reasons for his plummetting form post lockdown, injuries etc.

Just to note that not only did JOC score that all important goal in the Ipswich game, he also assisted for Hogan's goal with a typical burst down the left and perfect low cross. For a big guy, his crossing was excellent and another facet of his game that set him apart from your regular CB's.

Superb that!

As a long time Billy supporter, I have sadly had to admit that he can no longer do it in the championship, so he really had to go.

That is no reflection on the previous wonderful 7 years. His goals kept us up in the Adkins dark ages.and 2016/17 was something else.

Ignoring Robson and Blackwell's criminal misuse of him, he's been a fantastic servant to the club.

Thanks for the great memories in the pod and all the best Billy.

I actually had a dream about our first game of the new season, last night.

Sorry to say that Enda started the match. Shockingly he’d gone fully grey and also aged about 15 years as well.

Afternoon all,

Back from me holiday, Roygbiv and I catch up on the current state of the club with 1 month to go until our first game against Crystal Palace. We talk about the Ndiaye reports (boo), the squad players signing their new deals, a general check on enthusiasm levels for a Premier League season, and a potentially exciting summer for United Women.

Cheers for listening, and UTB!

Can you recommend a good therapist?

I need one after that.

But thanks as always. Helped me paint a door.

Sums up the general feeling of 80% of the fanbase. Bravo.

I agree with your point on the PL. VAR, cheating and being happy with a 3 0 loss against the bigger clubs is good why?

I was hoping we would get a 20 point deduction and stay in the Champ, 😉. Not really, but I'm not excited and wouldn't be if we had done a Forset and bought everybody. Like you Roy, I just don't like the PL. Never really have if I'm honest.

Very downbeat, not what I expected at all.

Presenting the Ndiaye as a done deal when it is far from clear what’s happening (of course it may still happen).

I rely on this to be a voice of reason amongst the other fan-led hyperbole.

Afternoon all, well, things are starting to move at Bramall Lane and Roygbiv and I are feeling more upbeat about things - especially if Ndiaye sticks around. We talk about the new signings, the new kit, and then pick out our 10 things we're most looking forward to in the coming season.

Cheers for listening, and UTB!

Spurs had Mccabes pants down! It was obvious Walker was an outstanding
talent so early in his develepment.
He has to be the biggest steel from us and we had a few while Mccabe owned us.
An owner who seemed content seeing us go up and down the divisions while growing his own businesses.
The prince coming in and shaking things up along with Wilders appointment
Put us on a new path which has stalled a bit due to our lack of investment.
I think the prince e is trying to remedy this! Just need a trustworthy rich man to continue the path which has lost a bit of smoothness and become a bit unstable.
We are back in the premiership and must thank the prince for that! Can he find a wealthy new owner.
