Well, Deane of course should be our manager by now. He's a Blade you see, so that will make him a better manager, just like Mickey Adams.

In the same way, Billy Sharp is much more likely to score a goal than, say Matt Done, because he's a Blade.

That's how it works in professional football....

I would say Billy is much more likely to score because he has 140 goals in 290 league appearances.

However he's a Blade and returning player so that record is irrelevant

I agree with your first paragraph entirely. It's the Bladey Blades who think merit is irrelevant, not me!

To be honest I can't remember whether you supported signing Billy or not. Either way the Bladey Blade thing is irrelevant but it seemed to be a justification for the few that were negative about him coming back. All signings as you said should be judged on merit and the fact that Billy is a) a Blade and b) has played for us before is of no real consequence in truth. He's a proven goal scorer and has most notably thrived under our current manager.

I'm not really sure why anything else should come into it. The fact that he's a Blade endears him to many of the supporters which is perfectly understandable as well. I don't see why that is an issue and why those championing the fact should not be able to factor it into his likelihood for success. On the flip side it can also work against a player. You can try too hard and maybe the young Billy Sharp did. I think his hit and miss form for us last time was far more down to piss poor management though. There's no doubt he's a quality striker and a great acquisition. Anyone trying to argue to the contrary has no relevant evidence to support their argument.

Put a chance at Billy's feet and 9/10 times it goes in. Period.

In this league with the creative players we have if it doesn't work for Billy, it never will.

Dropped to the bench again tonight.:fattwat:;)

I really must get used to spelling things out for blokes who can't see connections. Apologies. Here goes:

"The Leeds manager is no longer at the club and it seems apparent that the new manager doesn't rate Billy too highly as he has been on the bench for 4 out of the last 5 games. Now this coincides with our "messiah" being recalled by his parent club who are going to appoint Hughton today. The new Brighton manager will more than likely see O'Grady as a key player for the rest of the season as he only has one other semblance of a striker on his books and Mackail-Smith is always injured. Right, SUFC are desperate and there were strong rumours about Sharp returning to us before he signed for Leeds. KM is known to be a fan and the new owner might think there is some mileage in recruiting a past hero and a true Blade who looks unhappy where he is and whose first choice would be to return "home". Added to that, his skills would be perfect for the role of the "1" in 4-5-1."

Hope that helps.

Yes it would be a gamble but to my mind the "false 9" role does not need pace. It needs positioning and touch on the ball together with awareness of men around him.

Sharp has great awareness of situations because he plays with his head up when in possession.

As for expensive, I'm not so sure as Leeds will be looking to offload and Sharp may well be at the stage of life when money does not mean everything, particularly when he has had the tragic experience he had with his son.

Anybody any better ideas that just might fall into place? We desperately need a goalscorer.

I am on this Forum to pass opinion and to test my opinions, to learn different views. I suppose I have an emotional attachment to Billy Sharp because I think we wasted his potential at Bramall Lane. I seem to be in a minority of one.

We rarely have young players who score for fun at every age level.

He was too small for Warnock who exiled him for peanuts, despite his immense goalscoring record age for age throughout with us and also in the league one with Scunny.

Robson never gave him a chance because McCabe signed him before the new manager arrived.

Blackwell had to play Beattie in the No.1 role. I said at the time that I would have built my side round Sharp, not Beattie, though I do accept we had money at the time and that confused priorities. Beattie to me was never a medium term solution, though that's a separate debate.

If we had different managers at the time we would have played to Sharp's strengths and not asked him to make up the numbers. If we had played to his strengths he could have been immense for us.

Maybe the time has passed, but I would bet big money on him succeeding for us at this level, and indeed in the Championship. He's still a young man. Always make your main striker top man, make Sharp that and watch him go. We will never know.

Fuckin'ell what intuitutive OP and posts!! Smile.

Can't be arsed to go through all that guaranteed goals nonsense again, can you at lease highlight who the resident experts are to give me a clue?

PS. I been singing Sharps praises for his performance yesterday but don't go too early. Far too good for this league would suggest he's going to do that every week. Hope he does but play it cool after one home game eh?

No need to play it cool Bob. Have far too much conviction in my own judgement of what good looks like. Not on my own here. Will you pull up those that said Sharp was shit after 0 games in the same way you have pulled me up after 2 ??

Think I pulled them up at the time. Just as daft to say he was shit as it was to say he was guaranteed 30 goals. He was a risk, let's hope he continues to play like yesterday, brilliant work rate and link up play, and show it was worth taking.

Starting to make a few resident "experts" on this thread look rather daft

What a daft thing to say after only 2 games where he's scored the grand total of no goals. That doesn't mean he's shit or good, lets see how he does for us over the full season then judge him instead of one or two games.

We will see being the key words, I'm pretty sure that even the worst players in the world have had at least one good game, let's give him time to finally prove his worth in a Blades shirt, that is now what he will be judged upon, not 1 or 2 games but his entire spell.

Took ten minutes for some DB, we must be berks to think that minutes into the season is not long enough to come to some sort of evidenced opinion.

I can tell you one thing that yesterday showed me. Billy won't score 30 goals this season playing like that.
He was far too unselfish, however the team would score more than 30 from what he's created, even if that is only space.
Not sure if he can maintain that level of performance, he has to if he's to be considered a level above, but I hope our younger player are noting if he does.

Glad he has played well and sounds like he has improved his game from when he was last here and the time before

Hope he is a roaring success DronnieBlade sounds like he paid back his transfer fee yesterday with his no goals and no assists and non motm performance against bayern chesterfield
