Christ, Hamer is likely to flirt with that scenario
Yeah there has been a bit of fan talk about whether, if it’s getting close to the end of the season and we look likely to be in the playoffs, should he get tactical yellows to not be suspended for them, serving a ban beforehand

That's a 3 game ban though. Only way that scenario works is if autos are definitely out of reach and playoffs assured with 3 or more to play.

I agree he's very unlikely to get to the end of the season without five more bookings. Plus potentially two play off semis.

Flirt?

He's got that scenario in a cab and they are in their way back to the scenarios pad.
To be fair it took him 28 to get to 10, so at that rate he'd hit 15 at around game 43/44 which would be pretty shit.

Given a bit of thought on his part and a few tactical subs from Wilder, he might stumble into the play offs. At which point surely they have a reset.

All immaterial of course as we sail to autos😬

If he picks up his 15th in the play off first leg he isn’t banned for the second leg and final?

If he picks up his 15th in the play off first leg he isn’t banned for the second leg and final?
No. It's in wording from the FA

I will make it clearer when I do the next card update post after Portsmouth:

  • Up to and including 46 games
    • If a player receives 15 yellow cards in the 46-game regular season, they will be suspended for 3 games
    • If a player receives 20 yellow cards in the 46-game regular season, a regulatory commission will determine their punishment
  • In the EFL Championship Playoffs
    • Any suspensions received in the 46-game regular season will carry over into the playoffs, including the final. So if a player receives their 15th yellow in game 45, they would miss game 46 and both playoff semis
    • No yellows received in the playoffs contribute to a suspension. So if a player receives their 15th yellow in the first playoff semi, they would not be suspended because of it
    • Red cards received in the playoffs still result in a suspension
Hope that clears it up?

As Gus is now available to play again, and concerns being voiced over his record, here's some brain dumping info from me...

27 league matches played in
2082 league minutes played
10 yellow cards received
3 games banned due to yellow cards

He has received 1 yellow per 208.2 minutes played (2.3 games). There are ~90 mins x 16 matches remaining in regular season = 1440 minutes. That projects to him receiving 6.9 yellows in that period.

Two ways to look at this.

1. That's bad. Stop getting yellows!!! This does however mean he needs to change, and does a behavioural change also negatively impact his style in all 16 games?
2. If he carried on at his current rate, he would get his 15th card during game 42. That would mean he would miss games 43-45 and be back ready for the last game and any playoffs

To avoid another ban, he needs to receive less than 5 yellows, which means he needs to improve to 1 yellow per 294 minutes played (3.26 games).

Quite the expectation, especially when you consider that in his career in the champ, prem and Eredevisie, he has averaged a yellow every 290 mins from 18,867 mins. So we really need a behavioural change that he has never been able to sustain, to reduce the risk to one that doesn't make us nervous.

Will a change in position to a 10 help?

Does it need to be a per-half focus for him? i.e. under no circumstances does he get a card in the first half of any game, then at half time one of the coaches talks to him about situations and risk?

The problem I see is that a lot of his yellows (in my mind) come from him making an emotional decision, such as taking someone out because they skipped past him or he missed a first tackle. That emotional decision making isn't addressed with logical thinking, but maybe a reminder that getting 6 games of yellow card suspensions in one season will absolutely not endear him to any prem clubs.

Try as he might, young Gus just couldn't get himself booked. Better look next time fella

Anel and Gus are likely to play the next 6 games, you'd have thought, so hopefully they don't pick up another yellow soon or it may get nervy

Players:
1739039133013.webp

  • Up to and including 37 games played by SUFC
    • Players who have received 10 yellow cards will be suspended for 2 games
  • Up to and including 46 games played by SUFC
    • If a player receives 15 yellow cards in the 46-game regular season, they will be suspended for 3 games

Manager:
Wilder Yellows 2.webp

  • At any point in the season
    • Managers who have received 3 yellow cards will be suspended for 1 game
    • Managers who have received 8 yellow cards will be suspended for 2 games
    • Managers who have received 20 yellow cards will have a regulatory commission determine their punishment

That meant to say “Anel and Vini are likely to play the next 6 games, you'd have thought, so hopefully they don't pick up another yellow soon or it may get nervy”

I will blame a cold brain

Nothing of concern in the cards department last night, though at half time I thought Wilder might get one. Robbo and Cooper did pick up a card each for their efforts

Interesting! Hamer is the worry ! Great player but impulsive which probably gives him the edge on most players anyway.

Updated following Game 33 - Luton Town (A)

I was a bit concerned with the rate we picked up a few in the first half, but it all calmed down. Just the three then. Anel, Vivi, and Clarke getting his second for us.

Anel and Vini each need to avoid getting two more in the next 4 games, or they'll get a 2-game ban

Hamer again avoided a card. Well done Gus ;)

Always wondered….how much do people reckon this actually matters?
Depends on the style of the manager and how empowered the assistant is. We beat spurs in the cup at home while Hecky had a ban

Wilder is very hands on. I think it’ll have an impact if he gets his 3rd yellow

Well you could hear Wilder shouting on the tv coverage all match at Luton.

After that performance maybe he’d be better being less hands on 🤣

Our upcoming opponents...

Bogle is on 9 yellows. One more and he gets a 2-game ban
Farke
got his 3rd yellow tonight v Sunderland. He gets a 1 match touchline ban, which will be against us

Farke touch line ban stands 👍🏻

“While Farke is permitted to be inside Bramall Lane for the fixture, he will not be allowed to take his usual seat in the dugout before, during or after the match. Equally, Farke will not be able to give his customary on-field salute to the travelling supporters at full-time as touchline bans prohibit individuals from entering the field of play at any point.

Farke will also be prevented from coaching his team or issuing instructions during the match, but is allowed to attend the Leeds dressing room pre-match, at half-time and post-match. He will also be able to engage with match officials pre and post-match, but not during, inside their specified dressing room, provided they are 'agreeable to the approach'. Farke will, however, be prohibited from approaching the referee, assistant referees and fourth official in the tunnel.

Some Leeds supporters have queried whether due to the softness of Farke's yellow, it could perhaps be appealed, but that is not the case because rules state a caution is merely a 'minor disciplinary action'. Appeals may only be brought for disputed major disciplinary action. The Football Association's rationale, in line with PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited), is if yellow cards were regularly appealed, there would be as much refereeing off the pitch as there is on it and more importantly, could undermine the integrity and agency of on-field match officials.”

From Yorkshire Evening Post

Hamer one more yellow for a 2 match ban? He gets too many bookings.

I'd rather him get booked at QPR and not miss Pigs game.

I was fuming with Gus last night. I thought he was petty again a few times and was probably on his final warning from the ref. Quite ineffectual again against Leeds, too. I don't like this side of him at all. When Tom Davies was getting ready to come on, I genuinely wondered if Wilder was bringing Gus back off.

Just him with a yellow, so....
