Gus is obviously the main worry. Eight games left. He needs to avoid getting booked in four of them.

If Gus gets a 15th booking on the final game of the season (and we get automatic promotion) does a 3 match ban carry in to the start of next season?

No it doesn’t. Bans in different competitions do not carry across. e.g. Cup doesn’t carry to league and EFL doesn’t carry to prem (and vice versa)

Silent Blade

Edit: I believe there are circumstance where bans can carry across, but this is in agreement by governing bodies, and for extreme circumstances. For example if a player was banned for a period for serious violent conduct, the leagues/competitions could agree that would carry across

i’m sure we signed someone from abroad not so long ago who was serving a ban from the previous season and we couldn’t play him for the 1st 2 matches

Wasn't it Anel
I may be wrong as this is just from memory, but wasn’t that a French FA thing? They have some rule that our FA honour, that any suspensions earnt in their leagues are served even if players transfer? I think it was raised again when Mbappe was rumoured to be moving to Real around the same time.

We appealed it but our FA honoured the suspension.

How come Amedhodzic couldn’t play away at Watford that time because he had an apparent ban from his former club?

Ignore. Didn’t read the rest of the thread!

This is according to co-pilot,
Yes, the ban would carry over to the next season, even if your team is promoted to the Premier League. Suspensions for red cards apply across all domestic competitions under the jurisdiction of The Football Association (FA), which includes the Premier League, EFL, FA Cup, and EFL Cup. So, if a player is sent off on the last day of the EFL season, they would serve their suspension in the Premier League after promotion.

I assume totting up on yellows also applies

That would be against the in-season regs. For example if BBD was suspended for too many yellows, whilst playing for Southampton, but hadn’t served that suspension yet, then when he was loaned to us, he would not have been suspended, as the cards and bans don’t cross competitions. It’s really clear in the regulations

So if what you quote from AI is accurate, that would be very odd 🤷🏼‍♂️

This was implemented in the 2019 season, and is still in force.

Do yellow and red cards affect players across all competitions?

New rules have been brought in this season which mean changes across many areas including the yellow and red card system.

In the past, yellow cards picked up in the Premier League, football leagues, FA Cup or Carabao Cup would be added up together.

This meant that five yellow cards across all competitions would result in a player missing one match - in whichever competition they should have been playing in next.

However, the changes this season will see yellow cards only counting in the competition they are received.

Red cards will continue to count across all competitions.

seems my assuming totting up of yellow was wrong.

Updated following Game 39 - Coventry City (H)

Just one card tonight, for BBD, which means he has now moved away from the masses and firmly planted himself in great company within the dirty/clumsy/daft bastard collective.

Only Gus, Anel and Vini can now get a 3-match suspension this season due to 15 yellows, as there are not enough games remaining for the other lads to get enough yellows

If Vini doesn't play or get a card against Oxford, he cannot get a yellow card ban for the rest of the season

    • Players who have received 20 yellow cards will have a regulatory commission determine their punishment
  • In the EFL Championship Playoffs
    • Any suspensions received in the 46-game regular season will carry over into the playoffs, including the final. So if a player receives their 15th yellow in game 45, they would miss game 46 and both playoff semis
    • No yellows received in the playoffs contribute to a suspension. So if a player receives their 15th yellow in the first playoff semi, they would not be suspended because of it
    • Red cards received in the playoffs still result in a suspension

Souza has 8 yellows. Does he get a 2 match ban if he hits 10?

Ahh, I didn't know it changed. Thought it was just a fixed rule throughout the season.
game 37 was the cutoff point for 10 yellows leading to a ban.

Realistically, Gus is now the only real worry, but a big one. He can only take 3 more yellows from 7 games remaining. His 11 from 35 games gives hope, but he always looks a likely candidate.

It would be the most bladey thing in history for him to get his 15th card in the final game as we tumble into the play-offs without him

Isn't it 4 more yellows.

Does it reset to zero when the play offs start? i.e it all ends after match 46.?

I see Gus managed to get a last minute booking today, no chance he avoids a 3 match ban this season. Anel booked also, he'll be close

They were trying to wind us up from the beginning. They know certain players can't control themselves and bite it just puts us of our game.

Yep - if we do end up in the playoffs this one could be the nightmare scenario if he misses the lot.

Updated following Game 40 - Oxford United (A)

Three Blades booked today. One for Anel, then late on again for Robbo and Gus. Gus tried earlier in the game to get booked, with a mad lunge on an Oxford counter-attack, but fortunately he missed the player and ball. He got an absolute mouthful from one or two fans when the players came over to clap the supporters at the end. They let him know in no uncertain terms that he is going to cost us with his ill-discipline. Vini had to take Gus away as he started to 'interact' with those fans.

Only Gus and Anel can now get a 3-match suspension

A few people messaged asking me if Wilder got booked. He didn't. I think Oxford's manager may have though

Still, lovely weather 🙃

It’s so inevitable what is going to happen isn’t it. Both Anel and Gus pick up their 15th bookings on match day 46 as we drop into the play offs…
