Higdon has got one game left hasn't he?
Listening to cloughies interview I can't see JCR Starting(pisses off with his defensive lapses) although I hope I'm wrong.
Above derby blade has dropped Doyle for Davies, I really like the look of his team.
Never going to happen though

So, after the furore surrounding Ched Evans this week and boosted byanother good 3 points and clean sheet on Tuesday, what's the thoughts for tomorrow?
No new injuries, full strength squad to choose from, what will NC do?

He' experiment with Reed and Scoogs at Centrehalf, Higdon as the box to box midfielder, Collins and Harris up front....

Howard

Alcock
McCarthy*
McGahey*
Harris

Basham
Doyle

Murphy
Baxter
JCR

McNulty

Subs: Higdon, Flynn, McEveley*, Reed, Turner, Scougall, Davies

* If fit.

Harsh on Reed, but Crewe have won 3 on the spin, away game, and Basham has played well recently. Think you have to manage Reed's appearances on game by game at moment.

Personally I would like him to go with an unchanged team if McCarthy is not fit. No way would I consider managing Reed's appearances as his range of passing could be invaluable in a tricky away game.

However, Nigel manages this team so I expect Reed, McNulty, JCR and McGahey to be 'managed' out of the team

I fear a Reed and Scougall populated midfield is going to get overrun in an away game, but Wallace will no doubt be injured again, so we might get that.

I would be stunned if we are unchanged.

I will be very disappointed if McNulty is dropped, but not particularly surprised.

--------Higdon
Murphy Baxter Flynn
----Doyle Wallace
Harris Collins Mcgahaahahay Alcock
Howard

It's Crewe, so we don't have to worry about lower league thuggery. They will be confident from their recent run of good form and will want to attack as the home side. Perfectly suited to our counter-attacking style of late last season. Put all the footballers in, and beat them at football.

I'd happily go unchanged from Tuesday, but wouldn't be upset seeing Baxter in for Reed or Scougall for his greater goal threat. I think Reed deserves to keep his place from Tuesday night though.

Same team as Tuesday if possible? Maybe not start JCR though.

You have to start JCR,he takes a lot of pressure of the defence, just like he did at Bradford and a few of the other games iv'e seen him in.Most away games are perfect for JCR imo.

Last season we had the following defence line up:

Long, Brayford, Maguire, Collins, Hill

Today:

Howard, Alcock, McGahey, Collins, Harris.....?

He is very greedy .
I'm not doubting that mate but towards the start of the season he was releasing the ball way too early,i think it's about time he started to be a bit greedier,he's got to sort that fine line out between releasing the ball or taking another touch,i'm pretty sure he'll get there. He gets you out of your seat that is a fact and if some people don't enjoy that then i suggest they take up synchronised swimming or something.(that parts not directed at you btw).

I much prefer good attacking football, and don't get me wrong we sometimes don't get the good from JCR but we certainly get the attacking part.

JCR has one trick, run the ball to the byline, smash a deep cross in, rinse, repeat. As an attacking player he seems to be much of a muchness, but as mentioned earlier, he takes pressure off the defence by being pretty much the only player in the squad who consistently runs at the back 4. Reed's assist was mental on Tuesday, but he needs to be 1 on 1 off ATM because he's little more than a kid.

One tactical element that has confused me thus far this season is Clough's apparent refusal to play 2 strikers. 4-5-1 is perfectly fine, but you need to have attacking midfielders dipping into the box a lot more, and not just swing in speculative crosses. 2 up front would solve that. Maybe Higdon's not fully fit, but I tell ya, when they took off McNulty in the 2nd half on Tuesday, there was a lot of discontent on The Kop. Just play 2 up front, it's only bloody Crewe, in't it. 4-5-1
depends on flowing, pass and move football. Digging down to the byline and chipping a ball in yields nothing with that formation. Players need to have the confidence to push inside and challenge defenders, not run away and pass back to the 'keeper, which has happened far too often this season with little pressure on the ball.

Baxter needs to push forward more, Murphy too, and drop Scougall, he's been average all season.

Oh so very nearly!
