The title of this thread is very apt. We will be a mid table team this year and I’m ok with that. There isn’t a chance we’re getting too 6 in my opinion. We’ve lost too much.
We’ve lost Rak-Sakyi who had a decent season last year and caused defences a lot of problems.
We’ve lost Moore. He wasn’t as good as we were expecting but was a presence on the pitch and was useful at times.
We’ve lost Souza, possibly player of season and broke up many opposition attacks. I don’t think we won a game without him.
We’ve lost Souttar, I know he’s been gone a while but still a massive blow.
We’ve lost Anel, a poor player without Souttar but if you get him a good partner he becomes a great player, especially at this level.
I’ve got a horrible feeling Hamer won’t be here this season.
We’re also changing style of play, and have only brought in 1 winger to suit this. We won a lot of games dirty and by 1-0 last year, I think a lot of that was down to Wilder.
What I will say though is that Wilder’s approach would never stop up in the prem, whereas Selles, given time, patience and 2/3/4 transfer windows where he’s backed might get there. I went to see our young players develop naturally and go up with real confidence we can stop up.
Just shows how memories can be cloudy. Check out the comments on this forum throughout the season.
Rak Sakyi was a minor failure, you could see the talent and he was impressive in about 3 games but overall he flattered to deceive.
Moore was another minor failure here, underwhelming and injured much of the time, some could argue no better than McBurnie. Admit he started playing well in his final 3 or 4 games of the season (excluding Wembley) and looked the player I thought he was going to be.
Souza missed a few matches with niggly injuries, never ever scores and often went missing in the big matches against better opposition.
He showed 2 year ago that he’s a long way off PL level but admit he’s very good at Championship level and was impressive against weak opposition.
Agree with your last bit. Any of our players will be sold if we receive a stupidly high bid.
I might be in a minority regards Hamer because much of the time he’s not that good, certainly no where near as good as O’Hare.
However what makes Hamer special is that he can be playing poorly….then he’ll score a long ranger out of the nothing or make a brilliant pass to create a goal.
What transfer valuation do you put on someone who can be quite poor in many matches…but has that rare ability of producing magic?
Agree that Wilder would gaurantee the play-offs but we’d struggle in the PL.
Where as with Selles it’s a risk…think we’ve taken 1 step backward in order to take 2 or 3 steps forward.
Looking forward to the new style of play and also excited by the uncertainty.
