If it is the case that we are looking for a new gaffer which I don’t agree with btw.
I don’t think we can look for anyone better than Hassenhuttl played a back 3/5 at times with Southampton and is the only option imo other than Hecky that could do well with the players we have.

He's had his hands tied, it's not been a fair crack of the whip for him and I feel he hasn't been backed well enough transfer wise either,.

However we have not as yet put in any fully convincing performances where you'd say we controlled that game.
But we have looked threatening when we have attacked at times. Even yesterday first 20 I thought we looked decent.

I think had we lost to Newcastle even 3-0 the mindset would be different at a fan level and boardroom, but 8-0 changes the picture.
It accelerates the pressure to change it.

I'm not one for wanting to change at least not yet but you could argue that from the boardroom they may be looking at that the way we dropped points vs. Forest and Spurs could have been avoided with some different subs/or gameplan when at either 1-1 or 0-1.
And yesterday at 3-0 down at halftime, was that the wise sub and change in formation? It appeared to leave us more suspect and the players heads dropped.
What matches have presented this opportunity though?

1. Palace - would have been but the transfer approach encouraged him to run then tied his shoelaces together.
2. Forest - ditto.
3. Man City - excellent rearguard performance. But for a moment of naivety from Larouci that would have been a tremendous point.
4. Everton - reasonable point and very unfortunate last off not to nick it.
5. Spurs - beat them last season and without the PL ridiculous extra time mandate, which notably UEFA is not following.
6. Newcastle - awful week for the club compounded in a terrible off day.

Not sure where the gimmes were where he has the squad to take advantage.

Some might not wish to wait but until we've played everyone at least once we won't know if we are capable of amassing points against the lesser teams when we have the completed squad.

I cant blame Hecky for whats happening, its the Club that have made this bed, lack of investment to mount a challenge to stay up, the self sustainability model is bull shit and will never work, the players we have brought in permanently are not good enough for this league, and overall the recruitment has been poor, but we should be used to that by now!
The defence coach has made us worse too.
Were going back to the championship and we will inevitably fall like a stone, as I cant see where any confidence can come from currently??

Well the OP is a certified knowsknowt so let's not get too carried away here....biggest question for me though is who would want to come in and take us down if Hecky goes? Let's face it, barring a miracle, we ain't staying up so any manager with a half decent record/reputation will give us a huge swerve...

I'm not saying I agree to sacking him at all.

But being objective we've been in positions of taking points from games in 2nd halfs and dropped points. Could we have done more tactically to hold onto them? ( Forest, Everton, Spurs)
I excluded the man city game due to the speed of conceding again.
Players are dead on their feet towards the end of every game. Something wrong with training if they are not or they are just not good enough.Something has to change before all confidence is shot.
I actually wonder if this is due to us not keeping possession enough too. Lads are chasing and pressing all game.

The board well and truly burnt their fingers when appointing Slav. He took a sledge hammer to a system the players had been trained on for years and we paid the price, aside from one memorable 4-2. Not only did they need to sack him, they also had to fork out a hefty settlement. That leaves me to believe they'd only be looking at someone who's happy with our system. I didn't believe the rumours before the Newcastle game but an 8-0 hammering and specifically fans walking out is usually enough to cause waves higher up.

Warnock coming in would be a travesty, as much as I love the bloke. Wilder, who fucking knows, but he's not exactly done wonders since leaving us.

I really hope Hecky can give his head a bit of a wobble after the last game. The substitutions were baffling and I think the most unfit bloke at my 6-a-side could do a better job in midfield than Davies, that's not to say he was the only one last game. We were getting absolutely banged at at 4-0 down, it has to be damage control to protect a decent goal difference against the other bottom clubs. Whilst I do think there's a time to fuck about with systems and subs to try and get something out of a game, that was absolutely not it. See the game out at 4-0 and move on to the next.

My biggest concern is that the players gave up. If the board see both fans and players chucking the towel in, it's game over. Especially when you've been plugging a mantra of Out Run. Out Fight. Out Play.

Those players will need to play at 9s and 10s for West Ham and Fulham or else I do have worries about Hecky's job.

Things that have to change:
1. Stop conceding the first goal - 5/6 we've gone behind. Yes the Spurs one we collapsed in stupid time.
2. Stop conceding goals from crosses - 9 goals from crosses into our box - nine! 6 more than any other team after 6 games!!

Do I think Hecky and our defensive coach will sort this - I am not sure. So if this keeps going there is an "embarassment" factor which the board will not tolerate. I think Hecky is good for Championship but is being woefully found out at present in PL.

What planet do you live on and is the air breathable? Potter wouldn't even entertain talks ffs
Shurrup getting shirty ya berk. Adding if he tells us to fuck off shows im not under any illusions as to our chances no need to be rude. I proper hope he takes us on if/when Hecky goes just to pm you "ha"

I hope pep takes us over so I can PM you ha ha but I actually live in the real world and know it's not happening 😉

Hecky is the glue that's managed to hold things together over the past 2 years, especially the last 12 months, and is the best thing about the club. The squad is poor, the starting 11 is designed for the league below and the Newcastle result has been coming - Palace should've had 5, Forest cut through us for 45 minutes at will, and we made a poor Everton side look decent. Long gone are the days when we could out-battle teams, the Premier League have refereed and VARd that out of the game.
Anybody thinking Potter will consider taking over at Bramall Lane needs to give their head a wobble. His stock is top 8 Premier League. Stick with Hecky.

I’m not in the fire Hecky camp

But getting beat most weeks and some of them getting possibly twatted as well isn’t a guarantee thet next year we will challenge again

It’s probably extremely likely next year you don’t have Hamer, you won’t have Archer, you likely won’t have Egan or Anel

Getting a replacement in now doesn’t guarantee anything either

It’s not ideal

Has no one factored in there could be a much higher profile and far more prestigious job available soon in Sheffield ?
Surely any manager worth his salt would be waiting for that one before looking here.

As for CW, I do worry that some folk have forgotten just how bad things were under him towards the end. It didn't diminish what he did for us before, but nor should it be erased from his time here either.

Good point. I think the problem here, especially for those of us who go to the games, is Covid.

For me, the last game under Wilder that I have a clear memory of is beating Norwich 1-0 at home to take us 6th. Everything between then and the first game under Slav doesn't feel real to me, sure others must be the same.

From game one this season it's felt exactly like that for me. In that relegation season it wasn't often we were completely outplayed just looked easy to score against when the side did eventually break us down and toothless...very very familiar

Ever since he arrived on the scene, Hecky has been performing miracles polishing a turd.

Such was the level of sheen he manage to apply to said turd, that we actually got promoted.

With the resources he has had at his disposal, he has been outstanding. I don’t think anyone could have done better than him.

So of course he’ll get the boot. Those in positions of power above him will want a scapegoat.

I agree that we have looked just as frail defensively, but would argue that this team has been much better going forward (Sunday's game and the Palace game being the obvious exceptions).

Hecky has conducted himself with great dignity despite some pretty awful off-the-pitch circumstances. However, there have to be ongoing concerns around the injury record and the start to this season. I know there are extenuating circumstances with the late player movements but equally we've conceded more goals from crosses this season than most PL teams have conceded in total: this despite the back five being broadly the same as last season.

If we do choose to make a change, though, we have to make a progressive appointment. That specifically rules out Chris Wilder.

Not sure we have been massively better going forward just slightly more clinical. Mcgoldrick missed a lot of easy chances in that spell

Is there only me on this board that thinks we will stay up ?

Hecky's done a really good job so far, and conducts himself in a proper and dignified manner, as managers should
Lot of work to do but that's what he's paid for, he'll sort it but it might get worse before it gets better.

People going on about Potter, what about Soljar ? he could be an outlier should PA pull the trigger

I absolutely did, but I am no longer sure. Sunday felt really significant, and I am not convinced we will bounce back from it easily.

We'll see.

It's the response that matters to this. Neither the players or Hecky have ever had to respond to anything like this before. It's early in the season and I hope they can get some sort of confidence back and not just buckle under it.
