When I first saw it I just thought he was playing it safe in the fact that we might not get both of them, still don't think he genuinely knew which one we would get but perhaps he knew that signing both on permanent deals was unlikely to begin with.

I can't see the funds stretching for that, and had seen that we weren't willing to enter a bidding war for Akpom

Would take Archer for 10, depending what the buyback fee is, and always happy to have Doyle back.

I doubt we could get Archer for 10m, I thought Villa were wanting 20m for him.

As for Smallbone I wouldn't be surprised if that was our other permanent signing followed by Archer and Doyle on loan which would cover both of our domestic loans.

Then again, you know more about this than me so maybe that might be possible, I just can't see Villa selling Archer for anything less than £20 million.
