You are making up a lot of hypotheticals to compare it to a situation that isn’t in any way the same.

You keep saying that essentially because we’ve sold Sander and Illy, we would be forced to sell Anel too.

Their contracts were expiring and they didn’t sign new ones and the club decided they couldn’t afford to let them leave for nothing.

Anel is contracted for 3 more years, whether he wants to leave or not, we can’t be held to ransom by a player who is contracted until 2026.
I too would like to think so. We'll see

Correct on this matter you mean ?

He’s proved to be a top end Championship striker. Top scorer in a promoted team.

In the last year of his contract. Recent events suggest such top quality players may be prised away from us and at knock down prices.

So seriously, why aren’t they queuing up ?

Genuinely interested.

I’m not even talking about the player—he made a mug of you many times over last season. I just wonder what pleasure you derive from posting about him so obsessively.

Yep. Mugged. Cost me £50 as well you will no doubt be delighted to learn 😃.

So once again, having PROVED me wrong many times last season as you say, Weerz interest ?

Seriously, where ??

I guess I’m of the opinion that the millions we could recoup here could be utilised better elsewhere. Akpom perhaps.

Heading over for his medical as we write:

Get this fella instead.

Better.

Younger.

If a smidge more expensive.

Ticks every box for about £12m

What puts me off Akpom is the fact that he's not played since being out with an injury.
Who can say whether he'll recover to last season's form ?
We've had terrible luck with injuries in recent years and it goes against the grain to pay a big fee for an injured player ?
Can we trust the medical prognosis ?
Aren't there any uninjured alternatives ?

It wasn't absolutely necessary to sell Berge. That is bollox. It wasn't absolutely necessary to sell Ndiaye. That is bollox.

We always had the option of saying no, go on a free. Whether it was the right or wrong thing to do who knows, we may not have survived anyway, but we certainly would've stood a better chance
i get your point and we will never know now will we but if we had denied these 2 lads the moves they obviously both wanted i very much doubt they would have been motivated enough anyway to give 100% and help us stay in the premier league i think the club made the right decision in selling them

I think both illy and Berge would have played their best even though they were both heading out of door
Absolutely agree with this - I’ve been hugely impressed by the on-field professionalism of both these lads. I used to watch Berge and wonder whether he was really trying, but concluded that he was, and that there’s just something languid about his body language. I will be watching closely when he starts for Burnley, to see whether or not I was right!
We could have taken the gamble on keeping both this season, but we would have been betting the house. Worst case scenario ( and a quite likely one...) was that we get relegated, Berge and Illi leave for nothing, a large chunk of the first team squad is out of contract, and we have no money. That looks like a multi year recovery in the lower divisions. We took a huge gamble on promotion last season and it paid off, but I personally wouldn’t have taken the bucket to the well a second time.
The alternative is what we are seeing - a painful and disjointed rebuild, but it will hopefully put us on a good footing for the next 3 or 4 years.
How we got into the place of having these as our choices is a different story, covered more than adequately elsewhere!

Hi Stegosaurus here,

McBurnie version 2

He had ONE good Championship season. Before that, he was mediocre in the Championship and mediocre in Greece. His season in the Championship was a one-off. Much like McBurnie's one good season for Swansea.

They probably would have. But they didn’t want to be here. Them being here for the next 12 months would have been because of their contract and not because they wanted to be.

Keep them and in 12 months they’re off. We’re back in the Championship £35m light - which could have been spent on 3/4 new players on 4 year contracts and a longer term plan.

spot on neither of them were interested in signing new deals with us 30m for the pair is a good deal for us

It would've gone one of two ways imo, either you're right and they sulk, or after the window shuts they decide to go for the payrise on offer. I think it was worth rolling the dice on for a better chance of staying up, but what's done is done.

My point before though was the same situation could happen with Anel despite him being under contract. He could still sulk to try and get a move. I'd like to think he wouldn't

I think 10m gets him if they verbally agreed 8 before the other interest

Football is a very liquid business to keep players who want to go sets a bad example to future players, players come and go using stepping stones to advance there career , we are one of those stepping stones at the minute unfortunately that's how it is.
Since Bosman players have all the power ! stunt there progression and they will go elsware.
