Some Mason comments a few years ago:

Everton defender Mason Holgate is hoping former club Barnsley can earn Premier League promotion.

Holgate is also in regular contact with Tykes boss Paul Heckingbottom.

He told evertonfc.com: “They've still got an outside chance this year, Barnsley. They are still the first score I look out for. The start they had to the season was unbelievable.

“Barnsley lost a couple of players in January but it doesn't seem to have affected them. They are still doing just as well. They still seem to have a good team spirit, especially with Paul Heckingbottom as manager.

“I've worked with Hecky since Under-16s level. It seemed that whenever I went up an age, he did as well. He was a coach in the first team when I was there and I would say he has had the biggest impact on my career. I still phone and speak to him now. He watches my games, still gives me advice and tells me what I should be doing.

“When I was at Barnsley, Hecky and I used to do a lot of one-on-one work to improve my all-round game. We would watch clips together and stay behind to do extra work, all geared towards helping me get to the next level. I thank him for that, and [former manager] Danny Wilson, who gave me my first-team debut [in December 2014].

“In lower divisions it's hard to find a manager that will play young people. He gave me a chance and I took it. He didn't have to keep playing me because when I got my opportunity it was only through injuries and suspensions. Once I did well, he kept me in. I was only 17 at that time so for him to keep faith was encouraging.

“I'm massively grateful for my upbringing at Barnsley. It has made me into a player that can perform at this level."

He has played on the left before, of a back 3, and maybe even LB in a 4

Wouldn't be a good spend of a loan but would be a good permanent to probably replace Anel at RCB longer term

This rumour started because he was seen in Sheffield.
Mason Holgate was born in Doncaster and came through at Barnsley. He’s from here and was simply just visiting home.

Nothing to see here

Seen the link on Twitter. Again, not sure where he plays unless one of Anel / Egan is moving on.
Be a strange loan signing if not.
Hi Stegosaurus here,

He replaces Egan and who drops to the bench. He's better than him. There's a reason he has been in the Premier League all his career while Egan and has pretty much been a career Championship.

It’s a FALLOWFIELD FACTOID Steg

Hi WeAreBlades here,

You want to replace someone who’s been at the heart of our defence for some years, already built a relationship with the team and been one of our most consistent performers for someone who played 8 games last year?

An Egan replacement is not what we need right now and can almost guarantee he will play the majority of next season barring injury.

Not for me, was a real talent but hasn't kicked on, couldn't get in one of the worst sides in the division

And if Sean dyche doesn't fancy him? The king of building teams from back to front, I think we need to use our loans better

That being said if we could get him anywhere near back to his level of a few years ago, he'd be fantastic for us, but we can't afford IF loans

To be exact, it should read:

"Sheffield United are keen on Everton defender Mason Holgate on loan. Nottingham Forest are also keen as they attempt to sign every football player that has ever lived".

If they sign a few more they could have a squad bigger than the Wagner private army.

I would take him on loan but not at the expense of Egan

He would be a valuable squad member and based on the amount of injuries we suffered in defence, particularly on the left, could prove invaluable and imo, certain to get some game time and especially with Clarke leaving and JLT as yet not signing a new contract and the fact he missed a few through injury last season

Presumably if we take him on loan that means other premiership loans are out of the question eg from Citeh

maybe holgate is the alternative to coady think hecky is definetly after another centre back

Everton fans won’t be sad to see the back of him
Not sure that's true. I think he's good I'm just not sure we should be looking at defenders on loan. If we have limited loans we need to bring in as much attacking quality as we can. Especially given the exclusive Pete O Rourke info that Ndiaye and Berge are going.

If this is the case (which doesn't seem totally unlikely), then it looks like Jack Robinson is off somewhere else.

I like him, think he'd be a good addition but as a loan? Over the midfielders and attackers we need? That would be a bit demoralising I agree with you.

looking like one of our premier loans will either be holgate or rodon either would do for me maybe even both of em might be coming in 🤔

TalkSport saying we're in advanced talks for a loan move

I know he’s from Donny, but he’s been training at Dearne this week.
