Gone Elsewhere Conor Coady

To have any chance of staying up, we've got to score at least 40 goals & concede no more than 60. We currently do not have the fire power or creativity to get to 40 goals, therefore, in my opinion all the money and loans need to be focused towards that ability. Buying Conor Coady for £2m, £3m, £4m or £5m is taking money away from strengthening our attacking ability, same goes for O'Brien at anything from £5m to £8m. Little holes that need plugging up like back up CCB's should be done for as little money & risk as possible.

If the budget is £20m, then £10m to £12m of that needs to go on a foreign based CF (based in France, Italy or Spain, more than likely fully capped at international level for an African country), then about £5m on an attacking LWB.
yes fair point i think we need 2 strikers to come in so yes get a foreign striker in and a premier league striker on loan cameron archer would be my choice if he hasnt already gone somewhere of the 2 ive mentioned think obrien is more vital than coady but would love us to sign em both

If we are looking at bringing CC in on a permanent basis then I hope we are striving for a hard bargain with Wolverhampton.

They seemingly want his wages off the books as he doesn't fit in with their four at the back formation, but he does with our three at the back. We should be looking for a lesser fee up front than the £4.5m option that Everton agreed last season as he is a year older.

Apparently he has two years left on a lucrative contract so I can see the merit on doing this as a loan rather than a permanent. But I wouldn't discount the latter if the finances make sense. For starters, I would be asking Wolves to come to some sort of financial agreement with CC for a year of his contract whilst United could agree to pick up the money owed for the last year on his current deal. We then agree with the lad/agent what he wants per week and what we can realistically afford and offer him say a 3 year deal which would be the money from his last year at Wolves plus the wages we agree for years 2 and 3 divisible by the 3 years of the contract that we are offering. So x (last year of Wolves contract), plus y2 plus y3 divided by 3 = yearly wage over his 3 year contract with us. Alternatively I suppose we could offer him a lump sum payment for his last year contract with Wolves and give him a lower wage throughout his contract. It would remain to be seen whether he would agree to a wage reduction if we are relegated though. So in all probability I would see a loan being the way to go with this one but I wouldn't discount a permanent deal depending on what finances are involved.

Forest interested apparently

I know money talks and all that.

But if you were sensible why would you sign for forest?

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say they treated some of their summer signings (o’brien for one) like dirt. How do you sign a player and not even give him a squad space essentially writing off a year of his career. A cunts trick.

Why would coady fancy that when they have proved they will just sign someone else immediately and not give you a second thought.

There were £20m players for forest who barely started a game.

Forest are interested in everybody. If the moon was for sale those fuckers would want to buy it. I think their plan is to buy everyone with two legs so that they win every game one nil as the opposition don't have any players.

The loans should absolutely be used on those positions which we can't realistically fill on a permanent at this point in time, i.e. up top, centre mid, maybe keeper. We only have so many, can't afford to be burning one on a centre back

They'll pay better.
They're got a better chance of staying up.
They've got a better squad.
They won't have relegation clauses in their contracts so your future earning is secured.
They've got superior spending power to us.

Aside from that, no sensible reason at all.

Okereke - Cremonese - WP Pass
Nzola - Spezia - WP Pass
Dia - Salernitana - WP Pass
Piatek - Salernitana - WP Pass
Balde - Troyes - WP Pass
Diallo - Strasbourg - WP Pass
Toure - Almeria - WP Pass
Yusupha - Boavista - WP Pass
Banza - Braga - WP Pass
Zinho - Zulte Waregem - WP Pass
Mouandilmadji - Seraing WP Pass
Okereke is a tidy player. Would take him.

Depends what coady wants he’s an England international. He’s rumoured to be on over 100k a week. He’s unlikely to be short of money

Depends if he wants to play. My point is they are unlikely to treat him as a valued asset.

I’m pretty sure relegation clauses are mostly standard too.

Is that same “unlikely to short of money as Ronaldinho, Messi, Benzema et al 🤔

Yeah - I’ve no idea why they are all whoring themselves round gulf states for petrodollars either.

They couldn’t physically spent the money they already have in a thousand lifetimes. So I’ve no idea why they would degrade themselves like that.

But each to their own. I see why you’d chose money early in your career but after a certain point and a certain level of wealth it really doesn’t matter when the difference between earning 200k a week and 2million is basically indistinguishable.

Coady was great in his spell with us, and I'm sure he'd do well again but if it's a loan and we go down anyway we'll have nothing to show for it as we'll not be able to afford him then you wouldn't have thought and he'll be 31 going on 32 then. I still can't help thinking someone younger may be better when you think Egan will likely be first choice, I'm yet to be convinced Coady or Egan will succeed as well at LCB. If we had more money it's a no brainer but as we don't I'm much less bothered about a Coady coming in when his best and arguably only position is Egan's position.

Glad you're not in charge of our negotiation team🤣

Regrettably he's right but saying that he did play for us before and that could prove decisive and he probably knows Robinson as they're both Scousers and are the same age with both also at Liverpool of course. Saying that, I'm still not sure it's the right deal for us as I said before but I'm not privy to where Hecky will use Coady if he comes in.

I dont think we need to find a space for him in the back 3/4 I think he slots right in front of the defence, we are desperate for that defensive midfielder to help break up play and provide cover whilst also allowing the 2 wide CBS a bit more freedom. appreciate there are a few names on this that wont/may not feature, but still. looks pretty solid.

I agree - I’d push that number 6 next to that 7 and put a box-to-box type (ie. Doyle) next to Coady with licence to get forward while Coady covers (Coady dropping back to give the CBs opportunities to get forward as well).

Other than that just need to improve the personnel in some of these positions, haha.

I read interviews with Mcburnie (when he signed for Barnsley) & Mcatee about how Hecky convinced them to sign for us because the amount of research/ presentation he'd carried out on how they'd fit into the formation/ team.

These presentations are going to have to be better than ever this season! 🤣 so convincing they're willing to take a pay-cut.

Hecky needs to do his best Zig Ziglar...that'll confuse a few on here!!

i agree with you our 2 premier league loans have to be used on a midfielder and striker i think doyle will come back on loan maybe archer and sign coady and obrien for a combined 10/12m

I don’t know the answer so it’s a genuine question. but when was the last time he’s played defensive midfield?

Feels like about a decade ago in league 1 for us / maybe the championship for Huddersfield. If we’re buying a defensive midfielder I’d prefer us to get a specialist rather than hope a 30+ year old can remember how to do it.

When I say a striker, I mean a good one, not just someone who played well against us once last season

If this was because Hecky feels Coady can still play effectively in midfield ( I have no idea, if he can). Then it does make some sense. Our priorities and spending should be on the left of defence, but at the same time an injury to Egan and Anel and we are very vulnerable and I can see Bash playing a lot more than expected. At the same time, do we want to use up on of our limited new signings on an RCB who may just play a handful of games ? So if Coady is a starting midfield, but can also add another layer of cover at the back, it makes a lot of sense. From I gather based on no reliable source :-) Coady wages are ok the 50-60k range and he would give us a few years service still.
Would allow likely mean Doyle not re-signing though ....

If Florist are serious about Coady, our interest, if there was any, ends here. Sadly this is our lot. Hope we can survive next season, if not , blow the Championship away season after.
