JLT brings a lot to the game. Yes he occaisionally drops the proverbial you know what but he contributes a lot.
Round pegs in square holes inevitably get schooled and that will happen every week at Prem level. Our defence next season has probably never been more important given it seems as we stand our scope for recruitmant is severly limited. RND will hopefully be back and Ozzy is fine in the LWB role when required.
We need at least 2 proven strikers and 3 capable middies. Maybe Clarke on a free from Newcastle is a fair call.
Spunking a big chunk of our available pot on Coady would IMO be a bad way to go.
i agree with you about 2 strikers and 3 midfielders but cant agree with you on robinson hes too error prone and will get punished for every mistake at premier league level for me he can only be back up coady could even be one of our 2 premier league loans this season

I think your missing the point. Almost everyone is in agreement he IS a good signing and should be playing premier league football.

The questions are;
a) Is CB/RCB a priority position for us.
b) Would he realistically replace Egan or Anel (at least without ruffling any feathers)
c) Alternatively would he be happy to come but with no guarantee of being a starter
d) If we are going to play Coady, Egan, Anel is it going to be optimal to shoehorn one of them into a position on their wrong side.

I guess the most important is C), if he is happy to come here but knowing he isnt guarenteed to be a starter then fair do's to him, we have snagged an excellent replacement for Anel/Egan in the case we do get relegated and/or sell one of them
if we cant afford half of coady's salary boy are we in trouble and certs for relegation 😳
This. With a decent showing in the early games, Berge and Anel will both be off in Jan if we can’t pay them £30-50k per week

The only way I can see us being in for Coady is if we're considering replacing Egan, which might not be as outlandish as it first seems.

There were rumours he was interested in a move to West Ham in January. He, like several others, is entering the final year of his deal here.
If he's playing hard ball over a new contract or indicating that he fancies another challenge next year, then it would make sense to replace him now whilst we can still generate a fee for him.
Coady would be a very solid replacement.
Same age, similar profile. Always done really well in a back 3.

We do need to start considering future proofing our squad.
We have piles of players with only a year left of their deal. We could find ourselves in huge trouble next Summer if they don't sign up and several walk on frees.

do you know captain hadnt thought of that forgot west ham were interested in egan last season

Our midfield is stagnant at the moment, not one midfielder at the club can be classed as a 'box-to-box' type. No energy, no drive, no movement.
its a fecking miracle how we won a place in the prem with the unfit useless midfield some say we have
91 points with our walking footballers shows how good Hecky is

This confused me. But then I realised you quoted my post from 2015.

Rangers have the pull of European football as well. I know the league is poor but it's a nice incentive.
When I posted this is thought he was a free transfer, I realise now they might not want to pay a fee and wages...

They like a free transfer up there..

Without the City duo there is no way we go up. The turning point of the season was PH realising that we needed the City lads in the starting line up for Sunderland onwards. The legs had gone at that stage for Norwood and we needed to freshen it up. Norwood deserves his new contract if the option has been taken up but he is now a fill in player and should not be a starter. He's been brilliant for us but he's not the future for United.

Or we could just be in for him

saw a post on here somewhere saying that norwich were interested in norwood could be something in this rumour about us being in for a norwich player so maybe a swap deal may be on the cards hopefully its seargent quite like him clever and intelligent

All speculation. There were games were either of them were not at their best too. McAtee in particular took time to find his rhythm. We got to the play offs last season from nowhere without them . Yes they were excellent towards the end but others had done just as well.

Talk of him being on £100k per week, we could probably offer him £40-£50k. He’d want a sizeable signing on fee to take a haircut on his salary of that magnitude. But we can’t afford that with our £20m fee budget.

It’s a non-starter and let’s be honest, upgrading our CCB position isn’t an immediate need.

Go after a foreign LCB who is cheaper and potentially better.

Disagree. It's highly likely we'll be losing some experienced heads in the dressing room (Sharp, Fleck etc) and if we are indeed hoping to bring in some younger players or lads who've not played in the Premier League before, it's invaluable to have people like Coady around who have seen a bit and done a bit.

Not sure Coady is necessary an upgrade on either Egan or Anel, but having a solid option for both those positions (and perhaps even pushing those players for their spots) can only be a good thing. If an injury occurs then we need our backups to be decent in order to try and stay up.

Lookikg at Coady as something of a Basham replacement is nearer the mark, in my eyes.

If Coady was 2-3 years older I’d agree he’d be a useful backup. He’ll come to start so effectively he’d replace one of our two best players. When we have so little money, it doesn’t make sense to do that. Our left side was a weakness in the Championship. In the Premier league it would be obliterated.

I’d rather we spend our budget replacing positions we desperately need LCB, LWB, CM, LCM and striker. Then look at experienced players to augment that if there’s anything left in the pot.

well hecky has already indicated that he wants another centre back and i think coady is his number 1 choice and mine for that matter he will fit perfectly in to the mindset at the lane and as for all these posters saying where do we put him were certain to get injuries anel and egan are not gonna play 38 games

I don't think he'd come and expect to be starting every game. If that's the case then we'd obviously have to nove on, but I think Conor is an honest bloke with a cracking attitude and would be happy to work hard and fight for a place.

We all know the budget is tight and I do agree that the right side of defence is not our top priority (although who we have as backup for Egan or Anel will also be an issue). I just feel that if a player of that quality who would be useful to us is available at a good price (and not on silly wages) we'd be daft not to pursue it.

No harm in having a conversation, but I’d only be happy signing him if the deal was an absolute bargain. It just doesn’t make sense to spend a good chunk of our budget to strengthen an area which doesn’t really need strengthening.

Understand where you're coming from but I'd disagree that that area doesn't really need strengthening. If, as is expected, Basham departs then we're light in that department and will have to sign anyway. Hopefully there are a few decent freebies knocking about...
