Went down today purely to see the fan park and the Dutch fan walk to the ground. It was really fun, even with an 18 month old who demanded to walk as well.

In this instance I think it was because in the last 10 minutes it essentially became a Cup game. I'm not up to speed at all on the details and this might be wrong but I think the Swiss needed to score to go through. They certainly seemed to be playing that way and taking a lot of risks (also hadn't they made 5 subs?). They were all set up for attacking, not set up for defending; the Dutch seemed to bring on some very good players, eg 22(?) and others, who were more than capable of taking advantage.

Got tickets for France v Holland. That could be a really good game.

Oh I agree that can happen across sport when chasing. I just think it’s a common occurrence from what I’ve seen.

I've loved the invasion of all the beautiful European girls in town. I was gutted when it became clear England will be playing here in the semi. Grrrrrrrrrr I suppose we can hope Spain win, but I doubt it.

So now rather than the wonderful atmosphere I was looking forward to, it will be ........................... Beautiful and charming European girls v Munters and Shit Wasps.

Just got back. A really enjoyable atmosphere with wife and child in tow. On the standard in general I had a few observations:

1. The level of technique on display is really good in the gaps between first touch and final ball. Some skilful players on display, well coached. I’d say League 1 as a standard, which is well ahead of schedule.
2. The game is noticeably slower and less physical. There were attacking situations that were allowed to continued that should have had the door slammed shut through brute force.
3. Not a hint of diving or even a sense of it. Every physical encounter was fought honestly.
4. Couple the slower pace with largely good technique you’d think first touch and final ball would be nearly perfect, but it isn’t, in fact it’s the opposite. Lots of poor passes, finishes and first touches. I think this is indicative of the professional aspect of the game being really young.
5. There seems to be a capitulation problem across the game which certainly fuels the high scorelines. You could see in real time, the Swiss almost give up when they went 2-1 down and gifted a couple more, it could have easily ended 6-1. I know the NI manager got in trouble for suggesting an emotional aspect to goals coming in batches. I definitely think it’s an issue the game needs to address (somehow). It does them a disservice to ignore it.

I definitely enjoyed it though.

Let's be totally honest, it's womens football played by women. It's a totally different game to mens football so enjoy it for what it is, a game so far off the standard of the men's game it's off the chart.

2. It's incredibly slow, and the physical side is so bad it looks like WWE. Whether that's down to poor balance or just a lack of viciousness I don't know, but when they do go in hard it's a tad cringeworthy.

3. There's footage of them diving aplenty on tinterweb but again, they're so bad at it there's no wonder they cut it out.

4. Slow pace and bang average technique doesn't make for good football.

5. Capitulation is what happens in kids games, enough said.

Believe it or not I'm not a fan . Having said that, if you are then I genuinely am glad that you enjoyed the day. The spectacle looks great, as does Sheffield and the Lane, so that's good and if folks have a fun day out that's marvelous.

It's the money involvement.
There's little money in the women game, the financial rewards aren't that high, so there's more incentive to play games in the right spirit.
In the mens game it's more of a win at any costs mentality and it's accepted as a positive and the norm.

The women have the physicality (speed, size and strength) of 15 year old boys
but the technique is very good with several having real quality.
Enjoy watching Fran Kirby and some of England play in this tournement has been really entertaining.
Some of the quick passing has been Man City esque at time, altho there's very little closing down.

Due to the physical disadvantage they've no chance against a mens semi pro team and although technically better than, might even struggle (to some degree) against a parks team as some of the technically inferior men would resort to fouling/ pushing/ intimidation etc.

You can't under estimate size and strength, it's becomes something like David versus Goliath.
Skill will help even things up but it's still a game that relies more on physicality than skill.

Been to all 3 games played at the Lane so far and have thoroughly enjoyed every single one. We take the standard for what it is, (it can't be compared with the mens game) and we get involved in the atmosphere and have had a great time. We have tickets for the semi final and can't wait, irrespective of who gets there.

Not seen tonight's game. But the games I have seen, very neat and tidy but I'd question whether it's up to league 1 standard. But you can tell there is some quality to the training. Except for some of the goalkeeping which has been comical at times

Really enjoyed that today. Had a few beers in the Frog & Parrot first, big group of Swiss in there and it was great to see so many Dutch & Swiss fans walking past. Went down to the fan park just in time for the Netherlands fan walk and that was fantastic, brilliant to be a part of it.

The game itself was fine, it was just awesome to see Sheffield & Bramall Lane in such a good light. Great day.

I think it's down to the administrators. If they wanted to clean up the men's game they could. There are plenty of high stakes/high value sports where you don't have to sit through extended periods of WWE/gamesmanship.

For instance, and I haven't watched it for 20 years or so maybe they're alll prima donna cry-babies now, but that always struck me about American Football. No matter how bad the call, they got on with the game. And there were a few bob at stake in those games. I think there were incentives in the rules for them to do that.

Taking it further, it's hard to think of another sport which suffers as badly as men's football? At times games are just not much more than extended periods of WWE.

Diving, arguing with the ref, rolling around, arguing with the linesman, time-wasting, arguing with each other, it's all a blight on the game.

I enjoyed the game today for all sorts of reasons, but probably the main one is they played football.

If it were the men's tournament there's no way I'd be supporting England's opponents, but for some reason in the women's game it seems okay.
