I was discussing women's football with my wife a couple of days ago. I said to her look at how bad the standard was in the NI v Austria game, particularly from NI. England in fairness played well and the game v Norway from England's perceptive but the defending from Norway was poor. I think it's the over egging of the attendance figures and the standard being generally poor that annoys me. The BBC will highlight 90,000 Barca v Real but not the 1,000 for Birmingham v Arsenal in the WSL or 13,000 at the Lane. The tickets are dirt cheap also and I think it just feels like it's pushed down your throats and the commentators are not critical of errors, in fact the opposite if a goal comes from the error they'll just focus on the positives of the goal even if the pass went straight to the opposition forward.
On the other hand it's good to see women and girls play sport for all the benefits sport has to offer, it doesn't have to be football saying that and I do feel the more women's football grows it will have a negative effect on more established women's sports such as hockey and netball but no one will mention that as long as women' football grows.
