Outgoing? Brewster and Burke

Brewster was signed by Wilder who, by his own admission, knew he wasn't ready to play regularly in the Premier League and as such thought a loan out would have benefitted him. All the bullshit about him costing £18.5m and should be ready to go made things worse for a player who had played 22 games of first team football in total. He was thrown under the bus by Wilder if we are honest. I find it bizarre that we seem to love a player who has got glass legs and can't get fit and who has never completed 90 mins in his career, or a 33 year old who, as Dave Bassett would have said, can't hit a cows arse with a banjo when it comes to finishing, yet they get regular starts. Brewster at 21 years of age is barely into his career and yet he is being written off without being given a run in the team in his preferred position. Yes at times he's looked devoid of ideas, he's looked off the pace and his finishing has looked sketchy at best. Anyone who has played the game knows that all of those issues are not a surprise if you are not playing on a regular basis. You over try when a chance comes, you find it hard to fit into the team dynamics and you certainly aren't up to speed as to how the team plays week in week out., all this and yet you only have once chance to impress ? You only have to look at the comments from the England U21 management team to see how they value him and the concerns about his frame of mind, it also raises the worrying question as to how he is being treated here. He may not be everyone's cup of tea but he is the only forward who has not had a sustained run in the team at a time when we need to be scoring goals. He may score or he may not, but he should be given a decent run before we start talking about binning him off to all and sundry. This lad has good pedigree, you don't get to play at Chelsea and Liverpool and England Youth teams up to U21 if you are shite. He needs encouragement not a slapping down after every game. As Blades shouldn't we be doing that anyway ??

What is his preferred position?, Genuine question, because I never really watched him play before we bought him. Does he prefer to play as a central striker, or just behind a main striker, or as part of a front two or cutting in from wide?

I am all for giving the lad a chance, but zero goals (apart from the cup game, against Carlisle), means he is seriously out of sorts, to me at least.

I would think his proper position, as opposed to playing out as a winger, would be down the middle on the shoulder of the last defender as he does, it appears, for the U21’s. I know he is out of sorts but maybe, just maybe a run in the team in his best position with MGW in the team would bring the best out of him, especially as they have played in the England set up together for a number of years.

Goalgetter type strikers who dropped down a divison and found form:

James Beattie
06/07 PL goals for Everton: 2
07/08 CH goals for SUFC: 22

Ched Evans
10/11 CH goals for SUFC: 9
11/12 L1 goals for SUFC: 35

Billy Sharp
14/15 CH goals for Leeds: 5
15/16 L1 goals for SUFC: 21

If things don't change before January I think it's something worth trying for Brewster.

36 GAMES 1 GOAL
waste of space
nothing else to say.
scousers had our pants well down
and have done it again with Davies, he can't tackle a paper bag he's too small and too weak
we looked much stronger at the back with Bash in team @ Forrest

I can remember negativity about all of the players you mentioned, but they all turned the corner when given a chance. Obviously something has to change but the complete negativity against the lad when successive managers have either not played him, used him in an unfamiliar position or given him too little time to make an impact really amazes me. In all honesty if he had come through our Academy we would be screaming for him to be played more.

...until they crossed in extra time !

If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck, Substitute dud as needed

Until his goal and the Reading game I have seen literally nothing to suggest he will come good. If we can cash in and rebuild squad when someone is offering we should. After all Burke went for about 14 million back when he was younger but nobody would dare pay that now.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST WANTED TO SIGN 21-YEAR-OLD IN JANUARY, DEAL NOW LOOKS DEAD

Championship giants Nottingham Forest look set to miss out on a January move for Sheffield United striker Rhian Brewster following the sacking of Slavisa Jokanovic, as reported by Eurosport.
According to reports, Nottingham Forest were weighing up a bid to bring in England U21 international Brewster on a potential loan-to-buy deal
Eurosport, however, believe that Brewster will be handed a fresh start at Bramall Lane with Paul Heckingbottom, Sheffield United’s U23 coach, stepping up to take the top job following the sudden departure of Jokanovic in midweek

I honestly think Brewster was the cause of the fall out. Slav wanted to sell for a knock down price and bring in new players but the board weren’t prepared to write off the investment. We really need Brewster to come good.
i think hecky will give brewster a chance but think he has to play in a 2 upfront a fully fit moussett would be his perfect partner imo just wonder if mcburnie might also be given one last chance

I think mousset is done especially if the rumours of bringing jebbison back are true space will have to be made for him and mousset is the obvious choice to make way. Crying shame as he was the most exciting striker I’ve ever seen play for us but it’s not meant to be

yeah he could be done but i do expect hecky to recall jebbison i think he will want him in the matchday 18 even if its only on the bench

Yeah I agree ultimately with mcburnie not stepping up we don’t have a real line leading centre forward in the squad and you need to at least as an option.

as you know yogi ive never rated mcburnie but just wonder if hecky and mcall can cajole something out of him its certainly his last chance for us imo personally if we could get say 7m for him i would sell and take the loss

I think we’ll sell and sell for a fair whack less than that.

How much did they think they could get him for? He's almost untransferable.

We aren't going to pay 23m, put him on a 5 year deal and then let Forest take him for 10m after year one.

Likewise, they aren't going to offer 18m, which may tempt us, for someone who has achieved so little of late.

We will have to ride this one out for a year or two.

well im being optimistic saying 7m but a while ago i posted that i would sell mcburnie for 5m and got absolutely slated on here for posting it most blades saying no way we should sell for that low amount think they need a reality check no way were gonna get even half the money back we paid for him

I was hopeful I the summer that a new boss and dropping back to a level he’s been successful at before would see a rejuvenated mcburnie but it’s not happened.

I wonder whether not playing him against Coventry after he’d finally scored in the previous game was a tipping point.

That or just his lack of game time generally I expect it to be Brewster plus another up front for hecky until a sufficient amount of time has passed where either he improves or hecky can turn round to the board and say I’ve given it my best effort it’s not going to happen. I’d imagine the putting him in for one game then taking him out stuff under slav was concerning for united.

I have a tin-foil hat theory that Slav went to PA and said he was planning on getting rid of Berge, Brewster and McBurnie, all to fund some wingers and a CDM, and at a significant loss to what we played. Maybe £20m for the lot if we are lucky.

PA will have need to go all-in on Slav if we planned on making that happen and I don't think PA was willing given that he hadn't even bothered playing Brewster in the right position.

Add to that that Brewster gets dropped after scoring and PA probably realised that he wasn't willing to back SJ's plan
