I get the impression with this guy that he will be interviewing us as much as we are him.
He'll want to know our budget and ambitious before he even entertains us.

Totally see your reservations with SJ. I'm really not sure if the players we have will be able to do what his teams like to do. We have zero pace for a start.

I'll give him a pass for his Premier League stint as he didn't buy the players according to Fulham fans.
We've got Burke who has pace to burn, Baldock and Bogle also, so we're ok down the right. A left winger may be needed, Brewster has pace but we've not seen it much because in the PL we're often up against teams defending in numbers v us who in turn hit us on the break.

Reputations are at stake here.
He’s not coming if he’s got no budget to change things, and his star players with value are gonna be sold while he’s left with the players Wilder managed to design a system around to get the absolute maximum from.

So I’m prepared to put my neck on the line now and say he won’t be coming to us. Yes he might want to get a job in England, but he’s not going to take one that might end his career here for good. He’d be better taking on WBA, or a return to Fulham.
Plus May other Champ sides would take the gamble, and probably half of them will still have a bigger wage budget than Utd.

Sounds like brilliant criteria. A Serb who has got Championship sides into the Premier League, but no further and now works in Qatar (purely for the love of the game I presume ;-) can work in the EFL.

However, a German working in the Belgian Jupiler ProLeague, taking their version of Grimsby Town (Oostend) onto the verge of European competition, can't qualify to work here. Let's hope more important sectors of UK Plc's economy don't apply similar bonkers rules or we are all stuffed!?!

It’s literally the rules. Blessin doesn’t meet the criteria as he doesn’t have the amount of experience over the requisite period of time, Jokanovic does.

That actually hasn't been proven yet, there is a potential appeal route SUFC and he could take if there ever inclined to try. But on that point what's in Jokanovic's track record or citizenships that enables him to work in a post-Brexit UK? He's Serbian, which means he not even an EU citizen. Anyone know how he qualifies to work in the UK?
Because he fits the criteria laid down for a work permit exemption for a professional football coach/manager

We must have a top three budget, I think FFP would make it nigh on impossible for another club to get near those with parachute payments.

If we don’t have a top three budget something is majorly wrong.

Can we have a taste of the partially completed 'View from Watford and Fulham fans on SJ'? 👀

Burke doesn’t count, because he has literally zero footballing ability. His pace is utterly pointless.

Play him on the wing, as an out an out winger and I think Burke could be huge for us. He's offered us width all season and he beats his man and often puts a decent pull back, the last one I remember Norwood shot straight at the keeper away. I don't know why Wilder signed him as a centre forward, that's not his position.

Well just remember the financial situation of the owner. He’s cash poor, and money has to be found to pay for players and wages up front before the parachute money.

mid wager the budget is more top 10...and even then we will likely be losing money if we don’t sell a few

We can’t be that worse off surely? He owns about 6 clubs!

We are in a better financial situation than 90% of Championship clubs
Weve had PL TV money coming in during the Pandemic
Theyve had fuck all compared to us. The lack of gate revenue will have hit them all hard

It's common for clubs to take out loans and then repay them with the TV money/sponsorship/parachute payments as they come in.

Clement not getting a sniff? He’s a more qualified and therefore safer version of Blessin given we can’t get him but fans are seemingly ignoring him.
The question with Clement is would be drop down to us, rather than the other way round.
Are we a drop down for Clement?

Winning the Jupiler league and playing champions league football is great, but, how many times can you do it and get knocked out of the group stages before you stagnate. Working into the premier league and making a name for your self is surely the ultimate goal for a lot of European managers, and premier league teams don't often take a punt.

No thank you. He won't settle into the Sheffield culture. Fulham and Watford (and indeed London) is his experience of England. We need a complete change not the EFL Manager-go-Round. Blessin, pretty please.

Oh eye, because muck and nettles Alex Blessin who hadn't left Germany before last summer would fit right in to the cafe culture of London Road wouldn't he?

🤦

Even worse, he swapped him for exactly the same type of player - a winger he insisted on playing out of position. (Robinson a better footballer IMO.)

I think we are currently yeah. After winning the league for the last 3 years he wound probably be have a decent shout in Holland at one of their giants say Ajax, PSV, or Feyenoord. In Premier league terms I think teams like Southampton, Palace, Watford or even Wolves would consider him as would Fulham.

Well, if he thinks he can just trot Into the masters league without being dragged through muck and nettles, I'm not interested.

Great, pleased to know we base it all on how they interview. Clearly like those who talk a good game, this bloke has been there and done it. Asking for power points and details from a bloke who’s history says it all is a little silly.
You’re assuming they’d base the decision on the interview only. I’d hope a decision would be made on who has the best record and interview, combined.

Standard interview procedure surely....wouldn't you ask questions of a prospective employer regarding their future plans before taking a job?

Oh yeah absolutely, but not to the extent I think this fella might go.
I think we will really have to sell ourselves.

I think calling him a success is a bit much. He took an expensively assembled Boro squad down and somehow kept his job. He was then promoted back up with a team that included the likes of Gascoigne , Merson , Juninho and Emerson. He was then on the verge of taking them down again before Venables stepped in. He got to the FA Cup final in the year Boro went down.

Then he went to Bradford and took them down to League One winning 7 in 28.

At West Brom he won 19 out of 81 games, keeping them up with a ridiculous 6 wins all season. We've won 5 this season.

His appointment was arguably the biggest mistake Mccabe ever made. Even a below average manager would have had us challenging the season after we went down from The Premier League as Blackwell proved. It was a terrible appointment based on nothing more than him being mates with Terry Robinson and having a recognized name. No Blade at the time was happy with the appointment as he was already renowned as a failure in football management by the time he got the job.

When he took Boro back up as player manager as Champions at the first time of asking I thought he’d go on to have a glittering managerial career. Turns out he was an absolute fraud.

As you say though he was given a free hand to bring in the likes of Juninho, Ravenelli, Emerson, Barmby etc and I think it’s fair to say an success they had during his period was in spite of him. The Premier League at the time wasn't what it is now and was fairly light on technical quality. So anybody who signed a few decent foreign players stood a chance.

I think Robson's wife had to remind him every morning which club he was supposed to be managing when he was with us, such was his apparent enthusiasm levels for the job. His tepid approach to the Sheffield derby as 'just another game' ensured the pigs had us on toast. I remember this winding me up.....would he have said the same about Man U v Man City, or Man U v Liverpool?

He was able to attract some big names though (some good, some not so good), it seems a lot of players were starstruck by Captain Marvel they watched when they were kids. The only SUFC player I've ever heard have anything negative to say about him was Paddy Kenny who described his time in charge as a circus. Footballers funnily enough never seem to bad mouth managers who take them out on the piss all the time.

Pound for pound the worst manager we've had, certainly in my life time and the only one I actively dislike. He clearly had no respect for the club or its supporters. When Nigel Adkins pops up with one of his motivational videos on twitter, walking in the countryside spouting sub-David Brent slogans its like nails down a blackboard but I don't hate the guy.
