"We always feel we're a club that should be going for promotion, but at the end of last season we found ourselves with 15 players out of contract.

"It left us with a big hole to fill and we'd already missed six weeks of the transfer window. We've been trying to catch up ever since.

"We couldn't get the type of player we were looking for and we had to rely on loans.

"That leads to instability and a lack of consistency but to finish eighth is still a terrific achievement for the players.

"It'll be good to get a solid squad together and start again from scratch.

"We've had a colossal number of injuries and 24 debuts.

"That's completely different to having a squad of players you know and when situations are controlling you, rather than you controlling them, it makes it very hard."

I believe the transfer window opens on 1st July every year.

I also believe there was approximately a twelve day gap between us beating PNE and losing at Wembley. If he is referring to the gap between the end of the regular season and the play off final it was not 6 weeks and the transfer window wasn't open. I can just about accept that other clubs can make plans but they can't make signings in the middle of May and why can't we have a plan for CCC and a plan for Premier? Not hard to contact and agent and say don't sign until we have finished the play-offs.

I know this is boring repetition but If KB keeps coming out with these exaggerations to make a point then I will try to keep highlighting them.

And just remember folks, finishing 8th is a 'terrific achievement'.

My issue with this is again he fails to accept any responsibility for last season. I would have more time for him, and more sympathy, if he just said I gambled on trying to get some higher profile players in last season but they ended up at Premieship teams. I would understand that when you aim for better players there is the risk of Premiership teams coming in and leaving you scuppered. However he should hold his hands up and say he failed to identify realistic alternatives should these signings fall through which left us short.

If he actually said he made an error I would probably think fair enough, as I can understand how it would happen. But this is just "nothing to do with me", "what else could I do" crap.

We all live and work in the real world where mistakes are made on a daily basis. I have no problem with people making them, hell I've even been known to drop the odd bollock ;) , but you hold your hands up and sort it out.

Most of your comments are perfectly valid arguments but whenever I see these threads I'm going to say the same thing;

HE ISNT GOING ANYWHERE. Whether we like it or not he is a long long way off resignation or being sacked. I am resigned to letting him get on with the job and looking forward. When the time comes the time comes. Going on about it on here wont solve anything.....

People had their opportunity to stage a protest and they didnt take it. That sort of thing isnt my cup of tea but like you said in another thread Bob, words are meaningless if you dont pursue the action to back them up.

"We couldn't get the type of player we were looking for and we had to rely on loans."

Why did he sell Bromby at the end of the August transfer window then? He knew by that stage that he was woefully short of defensive cover and there was no prospect of signing a permanent replacement. Bromby could have covered right back, centre back and at a push left back. Instead we were forced to sign SEVEN loan players to cover those positions. Blackwell made a conscious decision to rely on loans when he sold Bromby.

Lou - do you believe that when I post on here I think 'oh great, this is the one that will make the difference, Bob will sack him now'.

I post because I enjoy arguing/debating with and reading comments of those who can be arsed to reply - it is as simple as that.

I pretty much agree with everything you say. I've got a season ticket so I seem to get the impression from your post that you think I aint backing my words with actions. Is that right? I will never be in car-park after a game. Drinking time too precious to me.

No Mic I'm not suggesting that you either believe it will make an impact or that you arent backing your words up. You're quite right that everyone is entitled to debate these issues and enjoy doing so. Of course, that is what being a supporter is all about and everyone has a voice.....

All I'm saying is that its pointless giving ourselves a head ache and hammering our point home when nothing ever changes. I actually read all of the posts in these type of threads and I do take the opinions on board. But when I see 'yet another post' highlighting KB's unpopular characteristics I take it with a pinch of salt because most people will shrug their shoulders at it. Most of the people who read these posts will either go "yeh so what, I know" or "that's rubbish" and ignore it (depending on their point of view).....

I'm not saying dont voice your opinion, I'm just suggesting that it leaves people like you and I frustrated. You probably get the same migraine that I do about the fact that we bang on about obvious things that are wrong, but the people that matter cant seem to see it or do anything about it!

I just think that now the season is over, what has gone has gone. Its been made quite clear that KB will remain in the job and has been tasked with undertaking the preparations for next season. With that in mind I think banging our heads against a brick wall over the issue is futile at the moment. We need to look forward and HOPE that he can get it right next season. I agree with a lot of the things you said but what are we to do about it????

Whilst he is the manager of Sheffield United he will have my support. I will point out when I think he has made the wrong call, but once its happened it isnt going to change so I leave it at that. I have to get behind him whether I think he's good, bad or indifferent.

Why did he sell Bromby at the end of the August transfer window then?

Because we sell all players when a bid is received. We generally have done for the last 3/4 years.

What a load of bollocks about transfer window and to be honest we hear the same every season -

"We won't just sign players for the sake of it"

"Quality not quantity"

"No one out there better than what we have"

yadda yadda yadda.......

We have generally done so for the last 34 years......................and prior to that!

Mic, have you written to Birch and/or McCabe to tell them about your current disatsifaction?

No. Can't offer a solid explanation as to why not to be honest.

I've got my season ticket and inspite of my hot air on here about Blackwell, I'm looking forward to seeing some new players and drinking on London Road/Ecclesall Road. On balance, I think we will sign some fully contracted players and if we don't then McCabe and Birch will have to deal with what they said at the forums.

Round and round and round we go, exploring the minutia of Blackwells words. But the only real insight we get is into the minds of those who are so obsessed by the man that they feel the need to start a thread over every fecking word the man is reported to have uttered...

It's quite clear we had a disadvantage in the transfer market, every play-off final team does. Hull and Watford both said similar things when they went up, although the transfer window opens on June 1st do you not realise most deals are agreed beforehand? Obviously the players we signed weren't good enough though and McCabe has said that I think. But Blackwell isn't going to publicly say the players he signed weren't good enough is he? How would the likes of Taylor and Evans feel after hearing that?

You should! You feel strongly about it, so do so (although try to be a bit more diplomatic). I wrote and Birch replied (so at the very least we know he is reading them).

Here you go Mic. Hope it helps:

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, OCD

What is Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, OCD, is an anxiety disorder and is characterized by recurrent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and/or repetitive behaviours (compulsions). Performing these so-called "rituals," however, provides only temporary relief, and not performing them markedly increases anxiety.

Signs & Symptoms
People with OCD may be plagued by persistent, unwelcome thoughts or images, or by the urgent need to engage in certain rituals. They may be filled with doubt and feel the need to check things repeatedly.

Treatment
Effective treatments for obsessive-compulsive disorder are available, and research is yielding new, improved therapies that can help most people with OCD and other anxiety disorders lead productive, fulfilling lives.

blackwell should have come out and said.. 'yeah.. we had a gamble.. we had to sell the kyles and let bromby go to leeds which left us a bit thin at the back and then it all went pear shaped.. instead of this 'nowt to do with me malarkey'.. personally i'm praying a certain mr warnock will come and take blackwells secret love child henderson off our hands and do us a favour (albeit indirectly).. then just monty and quinn to get shot of and we'll be a decent outfit.

we could have tied up a good nucleus of players between us beating preston last year in semi,s,including naughton, walker, halford, even lupoli. But our crap chairman kept his wallet up his arse and would rather invest in clubs that will never, never, never, ever benefit from.mcabe out.well out.bring in some foriegn investment.scarborough estates?fuk off to scarbro u tight bastard

But... Why did we “have to let Bromby go to Leeds”? On the eve of the transfer window. No hope of signing a replacement. He was under contract. Bought in August, sold in August. Were we really that desperate for the “undisclosed” (£300K) fee? So eager to cash in on any offer that we ended up spending maybe £1.5M on defensive loan players? Talk about a false economy...

I strongly believe that if we'd kept Bromby we could have managed without at least 4 of the 7 loan defenders we ended up needing. He would have added the stability that Blackwell claimed he was crying out for and we would have been in the play-offs right now. Unless McCabe held a gun to his head and told him to sell Bromby, Blackwell has really got not no justification for moaning about the squad shortages he himself created.

dont' get me wrong sothall. i agree with you totally mate.. i was on here going mental when it happened.. what annoys me is that blackwell pretends he didnt know anything about it
