the proof is in the pudding this season. ive said i dont see a middle ground with wilder this season. & he knows that this is could be a last hurrah. if we are in the bottom half & arent top 6-8. then his job is on the line

They’ve done loads to be positive about.

We’ve kept all our best players, everyone has been insisting for the past 2 years we’ll sell Hamer, they said he’s the best player in the Championship and we always sell our best players. However we showed massive ambition to keep him.

We’ve paid massive wages on players in the past we’d dream about like Ben Godfrey and Kalvin Phillips.

Tanganga was rated as one of the best defenders in the league. Millwall fans were furious when they sold him for big money ti a rival.

The owners made a mistake trying to change the culture of the club using a young modern coach but it’s quite incredible when any owners can admit they were wrong and they brought Wilder back, returning to the old culture that worked.

Last 2 seasons we’ve been paying out some of the biggest salaries in the league investing much of the parachute money into the playing squad.

We’ve lost our parachute money so aren’t allowed to spend big money anymore and must reduce the budget. However Wilder has a good record at dealing with players brought in at the cheaper end of the market.

Brooks wasn’t a 1st choice for us, so receiving £8 million looks good business, however he had high potential, so who knows if he’ll end up being better or worse. Time will tell.

We are not a very exciting club for any aspiring footballer to move to at the moment are we. No parachute payments, Skint owners who have just appointed a new board member to drum up extra finance, a club selling their better players to bring in cash, No money left to build the academy on a field in Dore or wherever the fuck it is. Can anyone see us bringing in any real talent when all the talent looks likely to be leaving? All I can see is more old boys who have pashun and run abaht a bit true Wilder types, he hated Sander Berge, he would have never played Ndiaye, and we all know how he scapegoated and berated Seriki and Brooks at every opportunity. Expect more slow play more about holding on to a narrow lead, Wilder has become a coward and what's more selling Brooks has sold half the pace in the squad if Seriki goes we will have no pace at all. The best we can hope for is a mid-table finish next season, or it could get a bit twitchy come next Easter. I very much doubt the owners will find some serious cash down the back of the settee. Given that some on here are calling for a new manager I wondered how our owners could sensibly choose one? You might expect a well run club to have a list of possible replacements in case the current manager is poached by another club or leaves for any other reason.
The nearest thing they have to any sort of football expert is Bettis who is a close friend of CW. Does he have the knowledge to draw up a list of possible successors?
This is not a criticism of Bettis.

Wilder mentioned several times towards the end of last season that he wanted to increase the average age of the team. Do we really need to do this?

Last season the average age of Coventry’s starting line up was 25.9 - ironically, exactly the same as Leicester’s. Ours wasn’t so far behind at 25.1. Norwich, a team very much on an upward trajectory under Phillips Clement with good recruitment was the lowest at 24.8. The average for the division was 26.0. (Source - Transfermarkt).

My concern is that we are heading down a very short term route by adding more players of declining value which will further degrade the overall value of the squad. Older players command higher wages and often come with availability issues. If we fail in this pivotal season, the first without parachute money, because of an ill conceived transfer strategy we could be setting ourselves back years. It could potentially be just as bad as last season for the longer term success of the club, but in a different way.

This is my biggest concern with Wilder's transfer activity - there is no consideration for future value or development. the vast majority of the 19/20 super team eventually left for nothing because he refused to cash in and build on the team (like Le Bris did last season) and stuck with players a lot longer than he should have done.
