Neal Maupay

It's been repeated on here a few times. We don't need to or want to sell Maupay. You can hypothesis as much as you like about finances but that is the truth. We are currently spending the £16m for Mepham and the £7m for Woods that we got in January.
No you're not. Different accounting periods. Yes, you're probably using the cash from the second installments from the Woods and Mepham deals to make the first payments on the incoming players but that's different to P&L.

You probably did made a large profit last year but that doesn't affect your 2019/20 P&L; it'll just offset the £55m retained losses on your balance sheet.

Bottom line is that it costs £25m a year to run Brentford excluding transfer fees. Basic income is £13m leaving a £12m gap. You have two ways of covering that: either selling players or further benevolence from Benham.

How do you know Wilder wants Maupay ? Brentford say there hasn't been a bid for him ( which I suspect means they want a club to make a £20 million bid and start an auction). It is only social media and tabloid speculation that is fuelling this and there has been no indication from United that Maupay is a player they want.

As normal, CW is keeping transfers private . A 110 page thread for a player where we have no confirmed interest is quite astounding( a bit like to Sam Morsy thread was)

After 110 pages, sleepless nights and a general obsession with this thread he better fucking want him!

How do you know Wilder wants Maupay ?

Because Richard Cadette says so and his in the know track record is pretty impressive, so that’s good enough for me.
Also there’s loads of reports from Sky Sports news, jounalists and other people claiming to be in the know.
There’s that saying of no smoke without fire, the reports have been going in too long, so you can expect them to have foundation.

I’ll give you a Morsy and raise you a Juanpi....... ;) be honest I think I’d prefer CW to go for McBurnie but we’ll all know in the next few weeks how this pantomime plays out.

Probably, again dependent on the same things.
Might see you there then. Went to their Ibiza one to see Hawkwind. Fucking terrible sound. Worst Hawkwind gig I’ve been to for years. Good holiday though. Saying that, they seemed to do an extended jam of Shouldn’t Do That (they’re doing a bit in the middle of Born to Go at the moment but this time it appeared to go on for longer as I think they were just jamming whilst the engineer tried in vain to get a decent sound) which kind of reminded me of those bootlegs from the seventies gigs.

For a business that has selling players as it’s major source of income it makes no sense to stop just because they made a profit. Do car manufacturers refuse to sell because they made a profit that year and it might appease their glove wearing owners club who want to keep the sportster model at the end of production line ,holding up the process. Turnover, stock movement and making way for the next model. Keep working the winning formula. Invest the profits .

Westbury White Horse Hill, 1985, in the rain. Nik Turner, sacked a few months earlier, crashed the stage with his sax having arrived to hand over money to the Peace Convoy not realising Hawkwind were about to play.

Alan Davey's bass amp conked out half way through. I think they jammed for around 30 minutes before a replacement was sorted.

Nik Turner remained sacked despite my hopes that he would rejoin after that.

Hang on, how do I fit Maupay into this? Ah yes, You Know You're Only Dreaming.

😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Brilliant.

Well I'm just sat in the Red Lion at Todwick, I know this is a frequent haunt for Lord Wilder to meet his disciples, so I'm hoping for a glimpse of Maupay, Mcburnie or Austin, whilst I tuck into my diet mixed grill.
I'll update with any developments ;)

A poster on our forums recently pointed out that we incurred a total loss of ~£5m between '16-'18 and potentially made a profit last year. - not sure how accurate that is, but if it's correct it puts us in a strong position. FFP states that we're not allowed to lose £39m across three rolling seasons.

We took £12m for Mepham, ~£6m for Woods and £3m for Bentley this calendar year (yes, I realise accounting periods are different) and so far we've spent ~£9m this summer, with potentially £4m more on Jansson. Maybe one or two more to go. As with every side, we're able to count the cash for transfers received in the immediate accounting period, yet as far as FFP goes we're also allowed to spread the cost of each transfer over the life of the players' contracts.

If we spend £15m this summer on five players on 3-4 year contracts, we could easily show a transfer spend of £4m-£5m in the next set of FFP accounts.

We don't need to sell. There's no financial pressure on us to sell. We've got rid of quite a few decent-high earners off our books this summer, which has freed up a load of space and we've been able to reinvest that in the playing squad.

There's every chance that Maupay ends up with you - it's just a case of offering an acceotable amount. Given that Che Adams went for £15m, I'd expect us to require quite a bit more cash to sell Maupay. In his first season with us getting use to English football he score the same amount as Che Adams had managed in his two previous seasons combined. Last season he scored more, assisted more and finished far more games than Adams did, despite playing a few less than him. He has immaculate fitness - Adams somehow got subbed in more than 1/3 of his games last season, whereas Maupay was rarely subbed whilst also leading the line alone. To add, he was a French U21 international and has had a great footballing education to date - he's got loads of potential.

We're in a totally different position to Birmingham City. They're under financial pressure, and haven't exactly shown themselves to be brilliant negotiators in or out over the last few years. I've got no idea what the fee will be should he join you, but the longer it continues the more it plays into our hands. We've previously sold in the final days of the window to maximise value without replacing, and that may happen again.
Its £13 million a year if your owner has guaranteed and showed access to funds. Otherwise its £5million a year ot £15 million over 3 years.

I know you are a fine poster mate and it appears your taste in music similarly so. Saw Hawkwind on their 40th anniversary at the Academy ,Manchester and they were awesome. A year later in Bolton and Dave Brock could barely remember the lyrics and looked completely off his tits bless him. My personal fave is mebbe "Spirit of the Age" which they never do live ,summat to do with Calvert I think? "Orgone Accumulator" is up there,as is "Warriors". Hmm I could go on there are so many. Has a band morphed through the years as much as those guys I wonder. And do you know if Hillage is part of the Gong line up? Cheers.
