A poster on our forums recently pointed out that we incurred a total loss of ~£5m between '16-'18 and potentially made a profit last year. - not sure how accurate that is, but if it's correct it puts us in a strong position. FFP states that we're not allowed to lose £39m across three rolling seasons.
We took £12m for Mepham, ~£6m for Woods and £3m for Bentley this calendar year (yes, I realise accounting periods are different) and so far we've spent ~£9m this summer, with potentially £4m more on Jansson. Maybe one or two more to go. As with every side, we're able to count the cash for transfers received in the immediate accounting period, yet as far as FFP goes we're also allowed to spread the cost of each transfer over the life of the players' contracts.
If we spend £15m this summer on five players on 3-4 year contracts, we could easily show a transfer spend of £4m-£5m in the next set of FFP accounts.
We don't need to sell. There's no financial pressure on us to sell. We've got rid of quite a few decent-high earners off our books this summer, which has freed up a load of space and we've been able to reinvest that in the playing squad.
There's every chance that Maupay ends up with you - it's just a case of offering an acceotable amount. Given that Che Adams went for £15m, I'd expect us to require quite a bit more cash to sell Maupay. In his first season with us getting use to English football he score the same amount as Che Adams had managed in his two previous seasons combined. Last season he scored more, assisted more and finished far more games than Adams did, despite playing a few less than him. He has immaculate fitness - Adams somehow got subbed in more than 1/3 of his games last season, whereas Maupay was rarely subbed whilst also leading the line alone. To add, he was a French U21 international and has had a great footballing education to date - he's got loads of potential.
We're in a totally different position to Birmingham City. They're under financial pressure, and haven't exactly shown themselves to be brilliant negotiators in or out over the last few years. I've got no idea what the fee will be should he join you, but the longer it continues the more it plays into our hands. We've previously sold in the final days of the window to maximise value without replacing, and that may happen again.
