Pitch invasion - club say to stay off pitch

Just checked the weather forecast and it says it's going to be pissing it down, get your waterproofs ready premature pitch invaders :D

If we win on Saturday, we are promoted.

We're not though are we. Our opportunities to be promoted are from Sunday onwards.

No Ps on the table for us until Villa Leeds at the earliest, and no Ps at all until after Norwich play Blackburn and that one will be for Norwich.

Yeah yeah goal difference but by all official "you will be in the Premier League next season" accounts, we won't be.

Which isn't to say I won't be ecstatic if we win, but because it's not official, I won't be off to the tattoo parlour to get a commemorative piece of body art like that Norwich fan.

You can’t escape the fact that we will not have a P next to our name on the league table no matter how much you want to “invade” the pitch. Personally I would like to stand and applaud the heroes in red and white and all the staff. I don’t want to watch a bunch of self centred arseholes run around like morons at the end of our final home game, of what has been a fantastic season.

I know that won’t stop people going on the pitch but that’s just my point isn’t it? It has to be all about them. Selfish twats.
You can't just chuck 'self centered' and 'selfish' out without justifying it.

If we win we are promoted, obviously.

Can't be arsed to read through 10 pages but anyone who goes on the pitch after the game on Saturday is a fucking arsehole. We can't confirm promotion so there'll be nothing to celebrate and the squad fully deserves the lap of honour.
When has the lap of honour ever been abandoned because of a pitch invasion?

Still not got an answer to this in 10 pages.

Someone on social media made a good point in that for certain players it will be their last game for us at Bramall Lane whether we are promoted or not. Should we not let them do the lap of honour to receive the appreciation and thanks for their efforts this season, thinking here about the loan players who will be going back to their clubs in a few weeks none more so than Deano. Let them do a lap of honour then if the fans are wanted on the pitch I would imagine the club would invite them on when the players are safely in the stand behind the dug outs.
When has a pitch invasion ever prevented a lap of honour afterwards. I remember the Stevenage pitch invasion, the players went back in and came out 10mins later.

I remember a lap of honour that didn't get very far as it was mobbed in front of the Kop and didn't get to us. Having stayed behind and waited an age, it was disappointing for me and those around me in the South Stand. We are talking at least 20 years ago, so I couldn't tell you what year.

Finally an answer!

I'm too young to have seen that and imagine the same would happen today. I wouldn't defend a pitch invasion during the lap, it would probably be at FT, the players would go in and come back out 10mins later.

No pitch invasion please! It's so small time & sends out the wrong signals. If we win we are up , that's for sure , even a 1 goal win makes us + 12 on Leeds scum , & they won't turn that around. In that case, let the players come out and enjoy the moment ,and let's celebrate in a dignified manner.

I'm guessing the reluctance to encourage an invasion is because it could put the lap of honour in doubt,?
Perhaps so, in that case I wouldn't encourage it to be honest. I'm assuming that if we're in a leading position with a few minutes remaining Sinclair will announce to refrain from running into the pitch. I doubt there will be thousands taking part if that's the case (hopefully).

Those that brush off the illegality of invading the pitch as an irrelevance are probably the types who use their phones while driving. A minority where one is too many and one alone is enough to be very dangerous.

I pay my money to watch Sheffield United, not some buffoons desperate to get on the pitch and then have no idea why they are there.

If there’s a pitch invasion I would want Wilder on the mic telling these idiots that the players aren’t coming back out, they’ve ruined it, sod off home.

When we got promoted from the third division in 88/89 I seem to recall the players all came out in the directors box in South stand and we were all on the pitch.... got a picture of it somewhere.... I might be wrong but I’m pretty sure they announced players would be in there so seemed natural for fans to be on pitch. I’m guessing we would risk damaging the desso doing that now, but it would allow some recognition of players efforts this season without them getting mobbed on the pitch and all ending in chaos and booing......

81/82 we did after promotion against Peterborough.

Remember going on the pitch after sticking 5 past Swansea in 89 but not sure if players were in directors box. Could have been.

Club don't want it, EFL sending out warnings about pitch invasions. Don't give the authorities any excuses stay off the pitch and respect the Clubs wishes.

Oh dear. There will be much stamping of feet and loud sqweaming of sqweams, plus renewed ordering around of the rest of us, from the entitled “I WANT!” brigade.

I for one have made a promise to myself that I will run buck ass naked down my street while drinking champagne as soon as promotion is sealed

Yep, players were defo in the Directors Box post Swansea, I remember Pikey giving it the big un.

I am sure the stewards couldn't stop a large crowd invading the pitch.I would imagine the ones the stewards could catch will face a banning order. Plus the league would love to deduct points and give leeds the auto spot.

I despise pitch invasions now...

BUT as a kid they were the best things in the world. Running on and lifting Alan Kelly up in the air after the Coventry game is one of my best ever memories.

So to be honest while I hope there isn't one 1) there will be and 2) I can't really complain if people do

They did. The picture of the crowd is on the back of the “first 100 years” book. With a magnifying glass I can see myself waving one of those inflatable cutlasses they had then. Remember them?

Edit The big difference then was we were all penned in and they opened the gates to let us on the pitch after the players had gone Off
