Pitch invasion - club say to stay off pitch

Grown men acting like a five year old kids. Jesus Wept. Just what is the point of acting like a bell end and running on the pitch, what you going to due when you get on the pitch? Pitch invasions are what small clubs do after a giant killing in the FA cup not when you actually haven't won owt yet, it's embarrassing and cringe worthy, phuckin grow up!
All evidence to the contray, as has been shown by Ricky's pictures of Southampton's and Cardiff's promotions.

Is chanting not childish? Making up songs about people? Booing?

You can argue that society has gone the way you describe, and I agree with your sentiment - all focus is on recording and showing off your experience instead of living it.

Attaching it soley to pitch invaders is just false. How many that stay in the stands will have their phones out recording the lap of honour instead of clapping?

I've invaded the pitch on a few occasions, but never had my phone out.
I think you'll find that I didn't limit my comments to pitch invaders.

It's a general disease in society and it needs curing.

I think your thousand will be somewhere between 1,000 and1,500 whilst the other 28,500 or so behave in that manner that the club will no doubt request.

We are told that the cctv at the Lane is now top class.

I would have no problem in assisting the club to identify every single pitch invader and banning the lot of them.

Some people just have no respect for society or the laws of society.
Quality reply.

By thousands I refer to people that have and will invaded BDBL in recent history.

Good job not countering my point about injuring players, not worth it giving it's a ridiculous and baseless claim.

Anything to call people you disagree with cunts though...

Given the weight of opinion on this thread I feel as though I must have got something wrong.

Can anyone tell me:

1. When a player has been injured by a pitch invasion after FT.

2. When a lap of honour has been called off due to a pitch invasion first.

3. When a mass pitch invasion has ever resulted in mass bannings or points deduction.

4. Why 'damaging the pitch' would matter given it's the last game of the season.

If you don't like pitch invasions that's fine, but making up reasons to legitimise it is just sad.

I doubt Wednesdays players cared too much about a lap of honour when they were on the fans shoulders after they won promotion at home to Wycombe all them years ago.

Two things.

I agree with you about injuries and all the other spurious reasons being put forward, my only problems are that invading the pitch is illegal, anti social, spoils the enjoyment of the majority, and is just plain wrong.

Secondly, I never resort to name calling or personal abuse.

If I can't sway an argument by sensible, reasoned debate then it is better that both parties move on and agree to disagree.

If we win 10-0 on Saturday will we be promoted then? No, we won't.
So why would anyone want to invade the pitch to celebrate something that won't have actually happened? It's like planning a honeymoon with a person you've not even shagged yet.
If we win 10-0 on Saturday, Leeds need to beat Villa and Ipswich (unlikely) and swing the goal difference by 21.

We are talking 0.00000001% chance of that happening.

The other poster chucked the personal abuse tbf not you, didn't realise the poster had changed.

Trouble is these days most of those on the pitch are just being nobs, maybe Northampton excepted. MK was cringeworthy imho.

Doesn't have the spontaneity of say our invasion of Villa Park in 1990.

Northampton away excepted.

Darlington away excepted?

Watford home excepted?

I like a pitch invasion personally. I think it is a great outpouring of joy and emotion. An event that occurs rarely in the lifetime of loyal supporters. I wouldn’t deny any supporter that.

Those who were fortunate enough to witness the Darlington match will remember it forever for the fantastic scenes with thousands of Blades, many in fancy dress, invading the pitch.

And what about the promotion under Bassett when thousands of fans invaded the Bramall Lane pitch and carried him round on their shoulders? Fantastic!

I was on the pitch in 1970 when we beat Watford at home 3-0 to clinch promotion back to the old 1st division. I took home a piece of the turf, cut by penknife. So did thousands of others. Amazing.

Of course I want to see a lap of honour and for the fans to clear the pitch and let them do that. And they will. They always have.

But never mind all this self-righteous nonsense about not going on the pitch. Let the fans celebrate for a few minutes. That’s all it takes and no harm comes of it, it’s wonderful!

All of it seems to miss the point to me.

We can’t technically confirm promotion whatever the score on Saturday..

Not mathematically maybe, but if we match Leeds result it's as good as done, a 1-0 win for us means Leeds have to win their remaining two games and there has to be a 12 goal shift as well.
Not impossible of course
Leeds 4 Villa 0
Stoke 4 SUFC 0
Ipswich 0 Leeds 5

I'm celebrating nothing just yet, I've seen the unbelievable happen too many times before. And if we don't get 3 points against Ipswich everybody will be shittin themselves

LOL, you took a pen knife to the match. Happy days!
(It was 1971 by the way).:)

Why would any fan want to run on the pitch when we haven't won anything ? ( we won't be promoted on Saturday) .

What would you be hoping to achieve by running on the pitch ?. The players would not want to be seen celebrating with fans on the pitch if promotion hasn't been confirmed) as it would be disrespectful and seen as arrogant

What if the players and club specifically request that fans don't run on the pitch...would you respect their wishes ?

If running on the pitch meant that the players couldn't come out and do a lap of honour ( not celebration and we can't be promoted on Saturday), is it right to deny the opportunity to the £25k + fans staying in their seats to thank the team for their efforts ?

Do you agree that any fan arrested for running on the pitch should be given a ban ? ( especially if the club specifically requests fans to stay in their seats/ in the stands )

All games that 100% confirmed the objective. And in most cases were the last game of the season.

Most of those were also sporadic and not premeditated on the internet.

Why quote my post when you've not answered anything I asked?

Three points v Ipswich and that's up enough for me. Leeds aren't going to make up six points and at least twelve goals on us in two games.

The tradition for football fans has always been to get on the pitch after the final whistle when their team gets promoted. No one gets injured and points aren't deducted. As Ricky's photos have shown, it's common practice.

I'm amazed at the people on here claiming that anyone that celebrates on the pitch after the game is finished is a "criminal" or a "full grade cunt". Nope. They are fans like the rest of us, happy that their team's been promoted.

The only argument I can see against it is that the players might not be able to do an organised lap of honour. But if you are in the stands and don't want to go on the pitch you can still watch the celebrations, and they will be more fun than a lap of honour.

Presuming we win, I reckon some will go on after the final whistle whatever happens, and I'm not going to call them cunts for doing so. We've waited a long time for this moment, and these memories will live with us forever. Who can forget Leicester or Darlington?

I won't be going on myself on Saturday. Must admit I did go on at MK Dons, but I had half a mind on the fact that it would be a handy shortcut to the hotel bar (and it was)

They were premeditated in people's heads instead, which is so much worse than the internet, the internet is evil.

Even if we do win on Saturday then promotion isn't official as Leeds could still overtake us on goal difference (yes I know chances are slim).

So in my view celebrate when it's official and not before.

Why not answer the questions in my post ?

I wasn't aware I had any questions to answer- you are trying to justify running on the pitch which is why I have asked you to answer some basic questions

Nowhere in my post did I try to justify invading the pitch. You have imagined it and then replied to my questions with your own.

If you cba to read it again, the proof is shown by the part where it says 'can anyone tell me', followed by a list of questions.

OK..a closed question

Do you agree with the suggestion that fans invade the pitch on Saturday ?

Bournemouth were only 3 points ahead of 3rd place when they won the penultimate game of the season but went bananas at the final whistle due to their far superior goal difference, and who could blame them. If we put on a show and win the game we are all but promoted. I wouldn't be taking part in a pitch invasion on Satdi but I'm surprised by how many fans on here hate the idea.

I wonder if people are talking about slightly different things when they talk about a pitch invasion. For me, an invasion is where hundreds, if not thousands, run onto the pitch at breakneck speed the moment the final whistle goes. I haven't seen one for a while, but it used to be preceded by people amassing around the pitch waiting for the final whistle. It can encroach on the players' ability to play and there are numerous "false dawns" when the ref blows for offside and some run on, run around a bit, then run off. When the invasion happens, I don't think the home players are that impressed and it must be quite scary for opposition players and the officials. From the stands, it generally isn't fun to watch.
I've seen it where it's been more organised from the club and the fans are more-or-less invited onto the pitch and it starts during the lap of honour and finishes where speeches are given from within a steward cordon. That to me is not an invasion.

What would Crystal Palace fans do? Aren’t they the go too when questions of proper support are asked?

Surely all those who leave early via the front of the Kop could block the way of the pitch invaders ? Thus giving Ricky something else to moan about.
I would have thought Ricky would have a clear run at it, given all the people that want to sit next to him.

No doubt some sort of synchronised cheerleading with pom poms in front of the benches before erecting a bandstand in the centre circle
