Pitch invasion - club say to stay off pitch

We complain when the police treat our fanbase like thugs who can't be trusted, complain about the cordoning off of seats, then there'll be fans running onto the pitch against the wishes of the club, players, football authorities, police, and probably before the final whistle.
We are worried about the effect on our enjoyment that increased security measures might have - searches, restrictions on taking things in*, rows of stewards in front of the stands - and wish we could be trusted with standing areas again. But the mistrust all seems justified when fans run onto the pitch. It's only a few weeks since a player got attacked by someone running on, it's not just our players on the pitch.
At some point the authorities are going to make an example of a club. Can you imagine a 3 point deduction for out of control fans that got the game called off 10 minutes before time? If they're going to pick on anyone, we've got to be up there as chief candidates.
It's not even that spontaneous anymore - it's being talked about the week before. It always looks like kids, tossers and numpties. Is it really worth it?

*some people have all but given up smuggling cats in.

Oh dear, are you really falling back into strawmen?
You’ve clearly lost this argument and you’re making up something entirely different because you think you reclaim some lost credibility. I think it’s becoming clear why the club didn’t take your initiatives seriously though given your views and debating abilities if that’s where you now are.

You’ve been given the possible consequences as stated by the club and the organisations which run the game. Both myself and others have highlighted them to you multiple times, but you are faining interest. You don’t care, you just want to do what you want regardless of everything else.
I get the feeling you’re the type of guy who has to have the last word, even if you’ve been repeatedly answered so I’ll withdrawal from the discussion as I think everything has been covered and other forum members can come to their own conclusions.
Please stay off the pitch, in line with the wishes of the players and the club. Over to you.

'Possible' consequences, not actual consequences, genius. Nothing ever happens. That's the reality. But dealing with that would mean no argument for you, wouldn't it? Towing the party line - and that's all you've done - doesn't mean you win the argument. Just look at the photo evidence I've posted, and have a think. There are plenty more of them too.

It was nothing to do with the club and everything to do with fans on here and elsewhere not keeping their word, and bad luck. The club tried to help as soon as I contacted them. So..... try again.

Not up to me what anyone does but I wonder if this is a generational thing? I'm an old bastard and have been on the pitch a few times. Just wondering if its mostly the older generation nay saying?

If we were to win on Saturday, then at the final whistle it’s not about the players, it’s about the fans. The long suffering fans. It’s about me. An ideal time for me to take a swim in the lake of me. I’ll be on the pitch like a flash grabbing at players clothing, I may get a matchworn shirt, I might get a matchworn pair of underpants, I’m not fussed. If I fail with that then I’m going for a corner flag, and if that fails I’m cutting the netting off the goals like what that there Barcelona do after champions league finals. And if that fails, I’ll just mooch about, with my arms held out wide goading the Ipswich fans. :)

It’s inevitable, the stewards, police and club will be well aware of it. To be fair in an ideal world it wouldn’t happen but it’s not everyday you win promotion to the premier league, doing it when there’s nothing to play for is stupid. I’ll hang back and then if it looks like it’s not getting cleared probably go on for 5 mins, my grandads ashes are buried on the halfway line so it’d be nice to share a moment on the pitch with him after he’s been trampled on.

How about stay off the pitch until after the lap of honour, once the boys are safely back in the tunnel then those ‘fans’ that feel the need can be allowed on the pitch, Everyone’s happy, no harm done

What is predictably being lost, given that we're now in the situation, is the significance of promotion to the PL for us.

Surely if it happens (albeit unofficially) any issues with pitch invasions take a back seat?

He's right isn't he - it is a day for the fans above all. The fans are the constant of the club. If some want to go on the pitch, so what, leave them to it.

Just one thing I want clearing up.

It's still fine to invade the less important pitches of little clubs like Northampton isn't it? And invading a pitch away from home is safer, yes?

Trouble is these days most of those on the pitch are just being nobs, maybe Northampton excepted. MK was cringeworthy imho.

Doesn't have the spontaneity of say our invasion of Villa Park in 1990.

Got to be one of the most comical pitch invasions, literally because we'd scored our first goal on about 6 games :D

Just don't forget to hold your smoke bomb aloft when you run on. You're still missing the point a win will not confirm promotion like it did a Northampton whose fans by the way didn't give a fuck about celebrating our promotion.
Like others have said it is all about you isn't it, no respect for the club, players or fellow fans as long as you do what you want.

I dunno, is there room on the pitch for all 26,000 Blades + the players?
Or are you relying on a large proportion of fans not joining in the pitch invasion to keep it “safe”?
Maybe we could draw lots to decide who gets to join in the fun and who doesn’t?

If we don’t win on Saturday there will be no pitch invasion.
If we do win, we will definitely go into the final game with a chance of winning the title, regardless of how other results go.
For that reason, if nothing else, we should refrain from mobbing the players on the pitch.

Personally, I’d like the opportunity to see them do a lap of honour in recognition of a job nearly done.

The rules are we keep off the pitch and rules are there to protect the safety and happiness of everyone. If we didn't follow rules, what would happen? There would be anarchy and the country would end up like France. I'm not not a spoiler of fun, far from it. In my my youth I was a bit of a rebel. Looking back, it doesn’t fill me with any pride to say that I petted in my younger days. Never heavy petting, but petting none the less and it's a guilt that i have to live with all these years later.

Cant the pitch do a tour of the stands? If not then McCabe aht.

Nope, I’ll just think “What stupid selfish Cunts” and get on with celebrating without pissing off the club, players and fans.
You are 100% damaging the clubs reputation. You think it would be applauded outside your small select group by anyone?
This is all before the fact that there is a final game to play where the title could be up for grabs.
Pitch invading before you've won the title is clearly detrimental to winning it, as outlr league 1 season proved...

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

if people are looking for new and interesting ways for us to mess this up, this is one of them. For all the best intentions, there will always be someone who thinks it's funny to attack the opposition etc etc etc

This thread has shown that there appears to be a very small minority in support of a pitch invasion.

Unfortunately they are the selfish knobheads that won't think twice about the implications of their actions on anyone else or anything else, and it is likely to happen.

Their social media accounts will be awash with pictures of their anti social and illegal behaviour and their equally knobhead mates will think WOW, how good is that, and the "likes" will fly in.

They will go to bed that evening absolutely made up with the 200 or so "likes" they've had and with not a second thought for the 29,000 other people who's day has been spoiled.

It's the modern way.

We live in a society that is all about self gratification and self promotion.

Emotionally these intellectual and social inadequates can't cope without the approbation of their mates, hence the disgraceful concourse behaviour, illegal pyrotechnics, and general flouting of the rules of society taking place at football grounds all around the country, in order to boost their ever failing self esteem.

You should have read the first word of my reply as it’s right there for you. But yeah let’s see how many go on and how many stay off, then we’ll have an answer to how many selfish cunts we have.
Either way we’ll know that you’ll do what you want regardless of anyone else or the risk to the club.
But if you want to retain any credibility, I wouldn’t give it the bigger blade bollocks again or doing stuff for the benefit of the club because it’ll sound incredibly hollow and frankly laughable. You do what you want, I just hope the club follow suit and do the same.
Love it how quick you call thousands of our fans selfish cunts because you don't want a pitch invasion, due to your list of incredibly poor reasons that have no evidence to back them.

When have players ever got injured being hugged? They're grown men and athletes ffs they jump on each other when they score!

I think the players DESERVE the lap of honour that a pitch invasion would put in jeopardy

Damaging the club's reputation!!

So you don't like pitch invasions, and like overstating their risks.

But to be unwilling to overlook it in the event of a promotion to the PREMIER LEAGUE so shortly after 6 years in League One, to the extent you'd even want fans banning and ridding of their season ticket money and loyalty points, is something I find bizarre to say the least. Like your outrage at a pitch invasion would outweigh your joy with promotion?!

to use the modern parlance,

I think we can see where the general opinion lies on this one, unfortunately it won't stop the knobs.

You can argue that society has gone the way you describe, and I agree with your sentiment - all focus is on recording and showing off your experience instead of living it.

Attaching it soley to pitch invaders is just false. How many that stay in the stands will have their phones out recording the lap of honour instead of clapping?

I've invaded the pitch on a few occasions, but never had my phone out.

I think your thousand will be somewhere between 1,000 and1,500 whilst the other 28,500 or so behave in that manner that the club will no doubt request.

We are told that the cctv at the Lane is now top class.

I would have no problem in assisting the club to identify every single pitch invader and banning the lot of them.

Some people just have no respect for society or the laws of society.
