Why though? If we win on Saturday, WE ARE NOT PROMOTED. Even if we win 10-0, it makes no difference. We are not promoted if we win on Saturday. So why run on the pitch to celebrate beating bottom of the league, who are already relegated?
You are potentially running on the pitch to celebrate finishing 3rd place, and the Play-Offs to come.
Get real mate.
If we win we ARE promoted "
without any reasonable doubt". That's the whole point. Never mind all this "mathematically possible" bollocks. "Mathematically possible" means that "numerically" it is still possible. But for it to happen there would need to be a huge swing in the favour of one team over the other - a swing so huge in fact that NEVER in the history of professional football has such a huge swing been seen before.
Blades win today: Leeds win tomorrow: Blades remain 3 points (and however many goals) ahead of Leeds and it comes down to the last game of the season. If we lose that last game at Stoke and Leeds beat Ipswich away then it will come down to goal difference. As things stand this morning we have an 11 goal difference advantage over Leeds. If we win 1-0 today, that has to be a minimum of 12 goal difference. Do you think Leeds can make up a 12 goal difference in 2 games?
I don't.
Yes it's "mathematically possible" but it's not happening mate, trust me. Remember though this is all about if we win today, not if we draw today, or lose today.
Anyhow, we were talking about pitch invasions and like some others on here, you are overlooking the point that pitch-invasions are not just things that fans do when we've "definitely" won something. It's actually an outpouring of joy and emotion and a tribute from the fans to the players, and it's happened on many occasions over the years, not just when we've been promoted. It's never caused a problem. No one has got hurt, or banned, as a result of it. The club haven't been fined over it or had points deducted. It's just a large number of fans letting their emotions out and enjoying themselves and saying a big thank you to the club.
Rather than all this "don't go on the pitch or we'll do X to you", they'd be better off saying, "Immediately after the final whistle, the players will go off and then return 5 minutes later to do a lap of honour, PROVIDING, no fans enter onto the pitch. At the end of the lap of honour the players will go into the stand and at that point we will be pleased to allow fans, who want to do so, to enter the pitch and show their appreciation". But I don't suppose they can say this, because it would probably breach their insurance if some idiot fell down a wormhole and disappeared, or tripped over an advertising hoarding or summat. That's why they have to act out this taking a hard line business about something so harmless and fun.
Having said all that, I won't be going on the pitch today. And that's not because it's too early to be certain of promotion, and it's not because it's dangerous, or that the club will ban me, or have points deducted. It's just that I've reached an age where I prefer to watch my pitch invasions from the stands than actually be a part of it. It's a great spectacle and I want to view it from the best vantage point.
