Every few months, someone gets it in there head to have a pop at Billy Sharp by talking it about Luey, be it a Wednesday fan or some other opposition. Naturally this upsets nearly everyone, the little prick gets outed and hounded, usually off Twitter, having deleted the tweets too late. Every time.

For so many reasons, why would anyone do this?

Because it's the internet age and trolling is a common pastime now.

I work with a woman who is usually a really nice respectable well spoken woman in her late 30s. Her hobby is having a Facebook account that doesn't show her real name or any pictures, so she can spout her extreme left wing views and call people childish names who are even moderate in their views, not even remotely right wing.

I also find this the lowest of the low tbh. I think a charge needs to be brought against him. I don't know how the law stands on this, but there ought to be something about public decency that he could be charged with? It's only when we start throwing people in the dock over this kind of stuff that we may have a chance of bringing an end to it. If we don't act then it's just going to get worse.

I know it sounds very "old-fartish" when I say that public standards of decency are deteriorating, but they are. And this is just one example.

Part of the problem is, it's too easy for folks to publicise themselves. For years it was in the hands of responsible corporations or media companies, now it's in the hands of any dickhead with a mobile phone and camera. They need bringing to justice - simple as that.

I skimmed over a few of this kid's tweets, to see what other philanthropic contributions he was making to our society. I note he's recently lost his job. This is a great advert for him isn't it? I bet prospective employers are queuing up for his services?

The sad thing is, this is someone's son. His behaviour is a total disgrace and whilst I don't agree with all this Muslim stuff about "bringing shame on the family", I think in cases like these it would be powerful for him to be exposed and for his family to feel the shame that has been brought about by their ignorant offspring.

A lot of truth Cerberus, modern society has a lot to answer for and I only see it getting worse. It is not old fartish at all, just the truth from those of us brought up where values and right and wrong were present, whether we are people of faith or not.

Perhaps, and it’s a very tenuous link, but it’s true that as a gun needs a person to fire it so Facebook, Twitter and Instagram need people to post on it. What’s the point in banning these sites that are used totally innocently by millions of people?
I’ve met some great people that I wouldn’t have ever known through the internet. This very forum, Facebook and other internet sites have meant that people I would never have met otherwise have become my friends. I’ve learned things, and been able to share my knowledge too. Getting rid of social media because of a relatively small minority of dickheads would be a big step backwards. It’s like asking someone to uninvent, to use your example, the gun.

And unlike the gun, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram haven’t been developed with the purpose of causing harm.
