No chance.

On the cheap.

Dead in the water.

Wages.

End up at Millwall.

All symptomatic of a negative attitude towards the club we ‘support’. There are no shortage of examples, day in: day out.

Fax machine, anyone?

You've gotta be realistic Pinchy lad.

If we were the only team in for him, his agent would soon be putting the message out to all and sundry. We can't (and shouldn't), be offering 30/40k wages. Other teams shouldn't, but will.

If this one came off, can anyone see merit in playing two AM’s and dropping a CF? Duffy, Fleck and Freeman all trying to open up the defence?

Hope not, we will get walked over in midfield....I could definitely see Freeman playing in the 10 just behind the main striker though

If we can get Freeman I think he will initially come in and job share with Duffy.....Duffs can't do a full 90 now and if he started last season he invariably came off with 20 to go....I could see either Duffy or Freeman starting and the other coming on for the last 20......doesn't bode too well for Ricky Holmes....could he be a makeweight in the deal???

We have a conundrum for midfield when everyone is fit anyway.....Fleck is a definite so we then have 2 places between Evans, Coutts, Lunny, Holmes, Freeman, (Poss) Duffy & Leonard.....although I can see Leonard being used more as defensive cover rather than midfield.

Agree with most of that except your first point. In what possible way would adding an extra body to the midfield mean it will get walked over?

Carruthers was brought in to replace Duffy,
Then Holmes was in a way too.
It's a very hard position to recruit for, other than a striker it's usually the most expensive position on the pitch.
Freeman could 100% come in and do that. Duffy still has a season or two left in him at the level but Freeman would be ideal to pass the baton on to.

Shit, I've got my heart set on him now, which never ends well.

My misunderstanding, I thought the OP was saying 2 AM's and Fleck, not a midfield 4.....

Paul Coutts is our best player by some margin. When he’s fit, he and Fleck are the first names on the sheet, but in that order. Only then do you need to start thinking...

I'd say best 'players' by some margin.

There's not much between the two.

Although an on form Duffy is a joy to watch.

I meant us lining up like this

----------------------------------GK----------------------------------
----------------------CB------CB-----CB-------------------------
---RWB--------------------------------------------------LWB-------
--------------------------CM ----------CM---------------------------
-----------------AM-----------------------------AM------------------
-----------------------------------CF---------------------------------

Fleck, Evans, Coutts, Leonard and Lundstram fighting it out for the CM role and then Duffy, Freeman and Holmes covering AM.

If we can't get anymore forwards in, that would certainly leave competition up front with what we've got.

I'd add McGoldrick to the AM role too.

It's the formation I play for my Sunday league side and it works a treat. not saying Chrissy Wilder is copying me or owt, but if it turns out this way I'm taking full credit.

Coutts, Fleck, Duffy and Freeman would football teams to death.

Those 4 in the current setup with a good all round centre forward and a quick attacking LWB would be very creative. Maybe just a lack of goalscorers.

Two wing backs down one flank. Wilder has lost it.

To me having the 2 AMs wide. Negates the space the centre backs and full backs go into.

I think we need the ‘link man’ in the middle. Behind or off the forwards

Rather than two AM positions slot Freeman into the ‘brooks’ role, second striker slightly behind the main centre forward, with Duffy still linking play

I remember him, I remember him well. I remember him playing for Stevenage at the Lane a few years ago and we just couldn't get the ball off him at times. He seemed to be able to hold onto it and dribble past everybody - he was very difficult to deal with.

I think he's been back to the Lane more recently than that though, and tbh, I didn't notice much about him last time, only that he'd plonked a lot of weight on.

Talented footballer - definitely.

Really nice consolation goal from Freeman at the Lane last season:

Why is it we are linked with players and fans look to change the formation. I can’t see wilder signing anyone that would cause him to change things.

Signing Waghorn and Freeman wouldn improve us more than we could have expected because of the balance they bring, but neither are second strikers.

Freeman would be a good signing, arguably Brizzols best player when there. Duffy-esque but possibly better at unlocking defences and more consistent. Not seen much of Holmes but Freeman a similar player but better.

I don’t think he gets enough goals for that role. Better alternating with Duffy and with two genuine goal threats in front. Just my opinion of course!
