In John St was crap. I got up just before half time because the kids wanted chips and the queue was back to the toilets. Took ages to get served and when i was heading back to my seat, the queue was stretching halfway back along the concourse (gangway F-G), never seen it that bad even for near sell outs.
Plus the craft ale bar was closed. They knew how many were going to be there, why not cater for it?
Prices up, service down,wasn't happy!

Somebody sat near us on the Kop was saying they'd run out of all soft drinks

I arrived at 6:45 (John Street) went to the kiosk and asked for chips and gravy. The lad came back 2 mins later and said they'd got no gravy and would I mind waiting 2 minutes while they make some. Well over 5 minutes later he came back to tell me they'd made the gravy but it was too runny, would I mind waiting another 2 minutes while they make another batch. Told them not to bother with the gravy and I'll just have chips. Another 5 minutes passed and I could see that they were only just putting them in the fryer. Ended up just getting a badly burnt sausage roll instead.

Always like that the start of any season, seems like they always have new starters what dont have a clue what they are doing yet

Personally you won't get me moaning about the catering at the Lane in the stands :) apart from below

That's because I learned many years ago the quality, value for money, and service is utterly abysmal, and therefore I don't use it unless absolutely desperate once in a blue moon.

Can't speak for the John Street stand because Sheffield United think it's acceptable to banish people from part of the stadium for not having children.

But I'll comment on the Kop.

I miss the days when the catering staff consisted of 'Betty's' and 'Maureens' who would effieciently serve all comers in a timely manner.

All we have now are gormless little wet-behind-the-ears twats who look shocked when somebody even speaks to them. I ordered a black coffee yesterday and ended up with a mouthful of coffee-grounds because the fucknuts didn't bother to use a filter or provide a filtered lid.

Yes, however I am always polite to them even though I have seen people doing their "big shop" in Morrisons get served quicker. It seems to be an art serving someone a pie in a box last 3 minutes. I don't think I could do it!

Don't get me wrong, I'm polite with them too. I have sympathy with anyone who works in a service role because they get treated like shit by the general public, but in Sheffield Uniteds case, they don't bloody help themselves!

I used to work for First Contact, who had the catering contract to supply staff in the early 00s.

They generally employed 16-20 Yr olds with zero experience, gave them no training and just stuck them behind the counter. Fortunately I was 18 so I always got a bar.

If it's the same today, the club needs to have its own people in there to orchestrate things as the temp staff have no idea.

On a more positive note, I thought the new pie boxes and lining paper were excellent.

And the Proove pizza in the car park was really good.

(With a nod to the fitness thread, I should point out that I didn't have both)

Upper kiosks on the kop closed and no food at all 20 mins before half time.

It wasn't good in the south eather, nowhere near enough staff or stock, but then, I don't think they were expecting 20k to turn up.

Why has no one complained about these life changing problems before?

Mind you, at least I know why there were so many fans with bloated stomachs and flies around their eyes walking around afterwards.

Is it unreasonable to expect a decent service? Not like it's cheap is it?

Rarely use the service for food may get the odd pint now and then. But what I see is a missed opportunity to increase revenue streams, that said if the club don't get any money (due to the contract) then they won't be bothered.

Went to Sunderland last year and the concourse was rammed yet got served in a matter of minutes, even had time for a second pint.

At the end of the day none of us are likely to say "I'm not gonna both with the match today because the chips and crap, the gravy is water, and I can't get a pint at HT"

Appreciate there is frustration, but the caterers don't seem to care about the customer service element.

Past experience tells me not to bother to be frank. It's never been good. Decent? Untrained staff, as you say high prices, useless management. The ongoing complaints on here make me wonder why anyone expects even "decent" at BL.

I still fondly remember buying 2 chip butties in the JSS a while ago, they were £2 at the time, the young girl tapped away on the calculator for about 10 seconds then asked me for the £4.

and before anyone refers me to my earlier post, we used to get to the ground about 1.30 in those days :)

I've always experienced some waiting / queuing but last night was ridiculous. I take 2 kids and they like a chip butty at half time. I also like to have 1 pint (as I usually drive) beer queues were also longer than usual. Didn't help craft bar being closed, where I usually go.

Is it just me, why are people in desperate need for food 1/2 an hour before a game and during half time ?
This is not just food. This is a collection of unique and unidentifiable gastronomy. An ode to the insipid. Every mouthful an ecstasy of anticipation. Nowhere else will you move from solar heat to arctic cold in the same saucisson-en-croute. Few other carnivore beverages will leave you hallucinating, blinking, begging for the end. Seldom will you see such ocular blankness as you place your order. Few queues will leave you in such a state of anesthesia. This is not just food. This is SUFC food.

Why don't they have the people walking round with the bottle dispenser backpacks anymore? They were handy for the occasional bottle drinker. I also think a dedicated pint bar would be handy.
That said I wouldn't use the catering facilities in the ground under any circumstances. The experience is just too unpleasant.
