United will once again play in Europe this summer, as part of preparations for the 2018/19 Sky Bet Championship campaign.

On Thursday 12th July, the Blades will face Portuguese top flight outfit Maritimo at the 2,000-capacity Estádio Municipal da Bela Vista, which is located in the Parchal region of the Algarve. The kick-off time for the friendly is 7pm local time.

Maritimo, who finished seventh in Primeira Liga last season, currently have a number of Brazilians as part of their playing squad.

Ticket information for the game will follow in due course.

Not the cheapest but Flybe flies from Donny to Faro. I reckon the club will use that flight. Especially if the in-flight menu includes Perroni.

And here’s me thinking we were off to Madeira where Maritimo actually play. Thankfully I checked a bit, before thinking about booking, and read this properly to find that the game is being played on the mainland. Shame as Maritimo’s ground is a bit of a cult classic with a view of the sea and the mountains and walkable from Funchal. ..

However, having also been through this part of Portugal last year I can say it’s dead easy to get to with Portimao being on a train line and about an hour from Faro airport and half an hour from Lagos. I stayed in both and Lagos had far better nightlife and a decent graffiti tour ( I don’t mean tagging ) whereas Faro was a bit small and touristy/ fish restauranty/ elderly atmosphery..

PS - if anyone knows Duffy tell him to pack loads of sun cream. Gingers/ strawberry blondes will burn like Gary Madine in hell under that heat....

Very close to the resort of Portimao. About 45 mins from Albufeira. Hopefully enough people will be stopping in/around Albufeira to book a bus. Taxi would be a bit pricey.

Bloody hell, it's far easier to get there from the UK than the Costa Blanca, no direct flights to Faro from Alicante. 7 hr drive apparantly, or fly to Lisbon.

It's Fleck(y) I fear for.

I have been drunk in Portimao many years ago if that is any help.
Very friendly those old Portuguese fisherman types...well they are if you are with two blond 21 year old ladies I guess :D

Bloke who owns cricks might be able to sort some transport. He’s had pubs out there apparently.

Quick Quiz .......

former United Defender signed from Maritimo ?

Hurry up before Silent gets here

As a regular visitor to Madeira I thought it seemed a bit odd.

Flights booked from east mids, better not change itinerary now! Missus is over the moon, Friday after we play the friendly I was already booked on a plane to Nice from Liverpool...shes now flying minus me and I’m gonna meet her in Nice from Faro..

Far be it for me to poo poo the noble efforts of the club, but I suspect that they've underestimated our turn out by at least 1,000 people. We took circa 2k into bandit country outside of Malaga with no public transport and sketchy details. The Algarve is a piece of piss, and a 2,000 capacity municipal stadium would appear to sell us short. :)
