Here an update on my condition. After taking horrendous fluids and spending all night on the toilet I attended the hospital today for the colonoscopy 5th April. Worried sick of course since the diagnosis of a tumour in the Dolan, I did not want any sedation and halfway through this the pain was agonising as a valve on the device with the camera had got clogged up but they soon sorted this out. I must have been in there forty minutes. The area where the ultrasound and the CT scan which the tumour was pin pointed and seen by consultants me and my wife HAD GONE. The consultant spent twenty minutes in that particular area with camera viewing from all different angels. I watched all the procedure and the consultant said well whatever was there has gone the bowel is completely healthy. From that area there was swelling from outside and he took biopsies from healthy tissue just for the record. He said the swelling is probably caused by the appendix which is swollen and pressing against the outer wall of the bowel. He said it’s your lucky day no cancer at all in the bowel. I can tell you the emotion was unbelievable and even got a firm handshake from the consultant. He said they will analyse the samples but he is pretty much sure it will be fine and that it’s the appendix that will have to come out. Over the last few weeks we have been to hell and back and a great cloud has been lifted. He said a appendectomy is simple compared to having some of your bowel out. My wife was completely shell shocked and tears were shed. I now await the results and look forward to getting this bloody appendix out. I have to take it easy for a couple of days then make sure I don’t antagonise the appendix. Listen fellow Blades thank you for support it has helped and they don’t know why the tumour disappeared maybe it’s all those people saying a prayer for me. We will be going out tomorrow taking it easy in this spring like weather and thanking God it looks like I’ve been given a second chance. I love all of you Blades.

Excellent news blade. Just take it easy. The consultants do know their stuff as I can testify. UTBHere an update on my condition. Absolutely right, even though it is not one of life's pleasures. Great post originaltrueblade , glad you can get back to enjoying life again. UTBAnd all you over 60s, make sure you do the stool test that is sent through the post. A good friend of mine sent his back and it showed early stage of bowel cancer. He was whisked into hospital where they removed a tumour and he then had a few chemo or radiation treatments and is now all clear. Without the test he would have been in real trouble so don't ignore it...DO IT!

Oh what an age to be 60 - a cheap season ticket and being able to send shit through the post without getting arrested. Can't wait now!Great news OTB all the best.
I would echo the thoughts about the bowel test for the over 60's, when I got one through the post I thought do I really want to know in case they find something. That thought lasted a second and next morning I was spreading shit onto a little card far better to know good or bad early than find out too late.

Good to hear that Gray......always knew were the sensible type!Great news OTB!
I got my stool test kit 7 days after my 60th birthday.
It came back ‘inconclusive’ twice so they sent me for a colonoscopy just to be sure and it turned out I’d got a tumour and it was malignant. The good news is that because of the early ‘stool test’ it was caught early and was only level one which meant it hadn’t spread beyond the inner surface of the bowel and didn’t need any chemo or radiotherapy. The two year screening at 60 had only just been introduced back then. If I’d been a year older it might have been a different story.
8 years on I’m as fit as I’ve been since my early 40’s (having cancer helps you refocus), and I’m still clear of that evil bastard disease.
PLEASE listen to what Derf says fellow Blades, the test are now being rolled out at 55 and you’d be an absolute MUG not to take them.
