I have always held the belief that a positive outlook, in times of health, or other problems helps to win the battle.

Good luck over the next few months, by all accounts you are in good hands.

Well just got back from the Hospital firstly let me say that myself and
My wife are overwhelmed with all your comments. I just know we are all a special family of Blades. Like no other.
Had a CT scan and eventually sat down with the consultant. He said there is a tumour in the colon right next to the appendix. He said we will now need to book you in for a colonoscopy (sounds unfriendly) He said he is pretty sure everything else is ok but they will double check and remove any polyps, I asked can you then remove the tumor he said
No I will need a second operation when the tumor will be removed. I said I’m
Not doing very well am I, he looked up at
Me and said “You are very lucky” I said why he told me the Appendix has done you one hell of a favour as it pressed against the appendix the appendix produced pain and that is why you are here you would never have known else. He looked me in the eye and said I don’t give false hopes to people but this I tell you as it is, this tumor is only a few months old I can remove it and cure you, yes cure you. I can’t tell you the emotions and trust me you don’t want to know. I trust this man of 25 years doing this operation and with my wife I will do my best. Holiday has to be cancelled but there will be others. With you Blades willing me on will certainly help tremendously. Thanks fellow Blades and I will hope to let you know everything goes well but I am going to miss All the April matches.

What a fantastic consultant you have there originaltrueblade. His optimism and calm assurance must have been so uplifting for you and your wife at hearing such news.

Both me and Mrs BB send you our very best wishes for a full and speedy recovery after your surgery.

Ey up OTB - Two things:-
1. Glad you’ve got a diagnosis, an early catch & a plan of action. Sounds promising from what you & others have said & I wish you & the family all the best.
2. Thank you for sharing your story with us & allowing us to be part of your support network from a distance. Great example of the power of positive thinking.
Hope all goes well from here on in pal.

Well done for going to the GP in the first place and not just dismissing the pain, or "manning up" as some would say.

The colonoscopy is no problem, A little uncomfortable as the tube passes round the corner bits but you will be fine. I've had two or three and my preferred option is to be sedated although gas and air is fun :D

You might even be able to watch the screen as the camera seeks the little beggar out! Well, in Leeds you can watch if you want.

You'll be fine and you'll get to Wembley to watch the Blades triumph in the PO Final :)

Well done for catching it early. I have no experience (thank God) in these things but from what your doctor and others here have said, it looks like you're in safe hands. Good luck with everything and I'll see you at Wembley in May.

Good luck OTB, stay positive and believe it or not, one day you will look back and realise you have been lucky, strange as that may seem. Hopefully that day is not too far away. Best wishes to you.

I don’t know you from Adam, but you’re one of our own, and so I am sending you best wishes for a successful outcome to this. UTB pal

Try to keep laughing and in and around people to take your mind off it would be my advice but seen as though I haven’t had nothing like this yet that advice could be bollocks.

Best way to look at this is that you have been lucky otb!!

Not sure how old you are but us old codgers hear of illness all the time from pals and family and acquaintances.

There's a mix of people who have symptoms and get it seen to and others who just hope it goes away and others who had no symptoms but it was too late. Success rates for recovery have multipied over the years though and we all know cancer victims who are enjoying life to the full, indeed seemingly better for the experience with life lessons learned.

You have been lucky that it 's been caught so early and just by chance. Without detection these little buggars get bigger and more destructive.

Look at the postives and see it off. Your doctor is confident enough to minimise the danger so thank your lucky stars Blade, things could have been far worse.

I'm amazed you started this thread at the time you did but what a marvellous response you've had and it's clear it's helped you through these past few days.

Best wishes to you and your wife and family.

I'm awaiting the results of 2 CT scans (bladder and kidneys) ive already had 2 MRI scans of both, blood tests and a flexible cystoscopy.

When the CT scan results come through I've got to go for another cystoscopy.

Am I worried?

Not in the least. If there's owt there they will find it and deal with it.

If they don't find owt they have done a thorough job of looking.

I'm fortunate that having a high pressure job taught me not to worry about things I can't influence.

I hope you can do the same and I wish you luck.

I don't know you otb, but this has given me a huge smile knowing that you've caught it early and will be ok! My dad had exactly the same but was way way too far down the line to be saved. I hope everything goes smoothly and you're back to 100% in no time. All the best matey

Here an update on my condition. After taking horrendous fluids and spending all night on the toilet I attended the hospital today for the colonoscopy 5th April. Worried sick of course since the diagnosis of a tumour in the Dolan, I did not want any sedation and halfway through this the pain was agonising as a valve on the device with the camera had got clogged up but they soon sorted this out. I must have been in there forty minutes. The area where the ultrasound and the CT scan which the tumour was pin pointed and seen by consultants me and my wife HAD GONE. The consultant spent twenty minutes in that particular area with camera viewing from all different angels. I watched all the procedure and the consultant said well whatever was there has gone the bowel is completely healthy. From that area there was swelling from outside and he took biopsies from healthy tissue just for the record. He said the swelling is probably caused by the appendix which is swollen and pressing against the outer wall of the bowel. He said it’s your lucky day no cancer at all in the bowel. I can tell you the emotion was unbelievable and even got a firm handshake from the consultant. He said they will analyse the samples but he is pretty much sure it will be fine and that it’s the appendix that will have to come out. Over the last few weeks we have been to hell and back and a great cloud has been lifted. He said a appendectomy is simple compared to having some of your bowel out. My wife was completely shell shocked and tears were shed. I now await the results and look forward to getting this bloody appendix out. I have to take it easy for a couple of days then make sure I don’t antagonise the appendix. Listen fellow Blades thank you for support it has helped and they don’t know why the tumour disappeared maybe it’s all those people saying a prayer for me. We will be going out tomorrow taking it easy in this spring like weather and thanking God it looks like I’ve been given a second chance. I love all of you Blades.
