In "simple" terms Wedy can get a maximum 35 points now, but only 32 after we beat them Sunday, or 33 if we draw.
Ideally we want to relegate them on Sunday, not watch them go down on Saturday.
IF Blackburn (35), WBA (34), and Pompey (33) ALL reach 36 on Saturday, Wedy are 100% down.
Pompey have 2 away games, Charlton and Millwall. WBA have to beat Coventry at home. Blackburn need a draw at home to Preston.
It could happen but, not likely is it ?
IF Leicester (32) plus 2 of the above 3 reach 35, Wedy are only 99.9999999999% relegated because of goal difference.
When we beat them on Sunday they will be 100% gone and facing public humiliation at BDTBL. (whatever happens Saturday).
IF Leicester and/or Pompey reach 34 a draw would be good enough (but not for us).
So basically I’d say the chance of us sending Wednesday down on Sunday is about 80%.
The max points Sheff Wed can get at the moment is 35 points.
For Wednesday to be relegated before we play them all 3 results below would need to happen.
Portsmouth need a single win (2 draws aren’t good enough) in either their away match at Charlton in midweek or their away match at Millwall on Saturday.
A single win takes them to 36 points whereas 2 draws puts them on 35 so still officially catchable on goal difference.
Blackburn need at least a point (a draw) at home to Preston Friday night.
A single draw takes them to 36 points. Blackburn are currently on 35 points so still officially catchable on goal difference.
WBA need to win at home to Coventry Saturday afternoon taking them to 37 points
If they draw at home to Cov they would be on 35 pts and still catchable on goal difference.
Forget Leicester and Oxford because even if Sheff Wed go above them they would still be in a relegation place (3rd from bottom).
If we win on Sunday then the max points Sheff Wed could achieve would be reduced to 32 and only Leicester and Oxford have points at that level
Meaning even if we win those 2 clubs could still be catchable, however as explained Sheff Wed need to be above 3 teams not 2
…….thats why the Oxford and Leicester results become irrelevant.
