Where would sending Wednesday down next week rank?

As a tool to take the piss out of them, really high. That's enough for me
As we know from Hull, a chorus of “we saw your crying on Shoreham Street/Bramhall Lane” is allowed whether it actually happened or not.
I’m certain that would get at least a few nibbles of frustration from them which is always worthy of our effort.

It's grown men singing songs at each other. We are dance fighting away from West Side Story.

There's no judge of whether something has to be true or not. Just make it funny, not referencing people dying is about the only rule for me.

For me ANY victory against them is worthy of celebrating big time. In terms of avenging the "Boxing Day Massacre" I tend to view it differently, in that we beat them 7-3 in the 50's, & the BDM was their revenge for that, so as usual they get everything arse about face. Moving into more modern times the Davidson game & the Duffy game on their patch really put them back a long way, so it is them who are playing catch up in terms of revenge.

I get loads out of it. With United it’s never dull and typically a white knuckle ride, with many highs and lows. I just think sending Wednesday down in their present state, when they’re already down, is nothing to get excited about. If you do then you’re setting a really low bar.
So you will be sat on your hands on the final whistle if we absolutely smash them 🤔

It would be funny, but it’s like shooting a dead person, it’s much better beating them when they’re not an absolute pile of shit.

What do you consider to have been a high then if relegating your local rivals doesn't bother you ?
Beating them 4-2 at the Sty when they took the piss out of our League 1 title success, beating them twice last season when they had ambitions of climbing the ladder again. Making it to the Prem twice under Chris & Hecky while they languished.

All those moments were special but sending them down on our patch when the arrogant gobshites are at their lowest ebb
Is the sweetest moment for me
If I could go back in time to when the young me had to put up with their massive Jibes and disrespect for our club and tell him that this day will come so stick with it kid it will be worth it

Irrespective of form etc l’m still approaching the game with the same trepidation as every other time we’ve played them. Can’t help it. Can’t relax in the days leading up to the game until kick off, when different nerves kick in.

After saying that, you’ve got to be a proper Eeyore to try to convince other Blades it’s a dead rubber because of their position. I just want the win as always. Hammering then is a bonus, relegating them would be the icing on the cake.

I understand, Frank. I’m just a boring gobshite compared to you. But trust me, I equally hate the piggy c****s. UTB.

Each to their own, everyone has the right to feel how they do about it without telling others how you should feel.

Growing up when I did, just being too young to understand the significance of Boxing Day, but seeing them set off into the sunset whilst we languished meant that 5 May 1990 and the double in 91/92 will be hard to be surpassed.

Personally beating arguably the worst side in their history and being the game that confirms the inevitable will be amusing but not as meaningful for me as it will for some.

I'm much more concerned that the eagerness to rub it in doesn't change the focus to get 3 points and give us a big opportunity against Cov to make the top 6 look realistic.

Maybe it's just because I hate complacency and over-confidence in any part of life.

My hope is that it simply proves to be a catalyst to the good run we had when we beat them away, back in November.

A really good 5 or 6 game run would be very welcome at this stage of the season.
This for me too. 3 points would be really handy at the moment. There is a bit of banter to be had out of tipping them over-the-counter edge but that's it

Boxing Day was put to bed in 2017. It was also 47 years ago. Most of the fans who sing about it don't remember it and a lot weren't even born. It was a third division game too. I get why they'd brag about beating us at Wembley but a third tier game from almost 50 years ago is the definition of tin pot.

We won't know where it ranks until we do it. There's lots of backslapping going on for something that hasn't happened yet. They don't get hammered often and we've got some brain-dead players who could quite easily get sent off early doors. We obviously should win but until we do, we won't know how good it will feel. The manner of any potential victory will determine how high it ranks. A boring 1-0 won't feel the same as a 4-0 hammering. A last minute winner to send them down would be a great story for the history books.

We'll see next week how it compares to other derbies. We need to win first
Great post though being at Primary school at the time it didn't feel tin pot. Comes back into my mind every time we get one over them (which fortunately has been quite often recently 🤣). Despite all l their difficulties and general shitness they will try everything to at least get a point on Sunday. We need to be very wary even if we know we should walk it - wouldn't be surprised if it's not like that on the day even if we run out easy winners in the end. Always glass half empty when it comes to our great club - been here too often
, not sure if it's the highs or the lows that keep me going 😊

It would rank nowhere. Beating an abysmal team in a distressed state is nothing to wax lyrical about, even if it’s ’THEM’.

Gloating about it with smug satisfaction as if it’s an achievement is embarrassing, and says more about how bad this season has been.

I’d rather celebrate actual success. Putting a final nail in their pathetic coffin is a million miles away from that.

I was at the Sty on that Boxing Day not a nice experience the United players performed (if thats what you call it) like they had been on the piss over Christmas

For me there are 3 x moments that have been pivotal in our respective fortunes all 3 have been mentioned on here

1) May 1990 the day we beat Leicester 5-2 to secure promotion to the top tier and on the very same day the Pigs lost their home game to Forest (I think) to relegate them to the 2nd tier. That will never happen again

2) The Bobby Davidson game at the Sty we beat them 3-1 and were very clearly the underdogs that day
The pig fans gave us no chance that day. It had consequences for the Pigs and their final League position

3) Bouncing Day again according to the unclean from S6 we had no chance just a few journeymen that had got promoted from the Pub League. The timing of Duffys goal was perfection watching the bouncing pigs suddenly realise their comeback was over. You couldnt make it up. Their fanbase was well and truly fucked not only on that day but I dont think they have recovered from that moment. Dont think theyve bounced ever since

In context I would put in order my most important moments Bouncing Day, May 1990, then the Bobby Davidson game.

As for the game on Sunday I really hope we batter the living daylights out of them to relegate them would top the day off but the 3 moments above have put to bed my bad experience of Boxing Day 1979

Nothing will ever beat Bouncing Day.

Sending them down next Sunday would be funny but it wouldn't rank particularly high for me unless we annihilated them by a massive scoreline.

Beating a team with one win all season who were relegated by October doesn't hold much eminence even if it is Wednesday.

Context does matter.

As others said, the significance of the Bouncing day slaying by Duffy in the 2-4 put Boxing Day to bed in a manner that they Never dreamed of. It wasn't the dream that Carlos, Howson or the Bouncing twats they had the night before that late September game. Having come up from the Pub League with a Pub Manager, Pub Players to Publicly humiliate them from the 1st mins with Flecks goal, to their mascots being slumped against a wall and the videos of the bouncing stopping. It has become perhaps the biggest counter to their Boxing Day claims. Yet they don't accept it.

We didn't know at the time, but almost a decade later, which itself doesn't seem to be that long ago, but that game changed their fortunes and ours for the next decade. We went from plucky league one winners to Premier League Yo-Yo club because of that game, that season.

Putting them down on Sunday will carry significance after the comments they made of our latest PL disaster season, for them to go down in February without even putting up a fight, they've rolled over and given up.

To kick the lid closed and put that final nail in the coffin, it would be something we will all look back on with delight. They've done their own damage. As a collective. Not just Chansiri. There is a huge amount of shame at their club and how they've behaved. To send them back to League one to spend yet more time in what is increasingly becoming their level, well it'll be just wonderful.

Lets hope we put on a performance to merit it and send them down in style.

I still remember them signing hoe they had waited for 6 years

They really thought it was their year and beating us easily was just a stepping stone
