Will we send Wednesday down?

Pompey play Tues aswell as Sat. So 2 chances to get 3 points. Currently on 33 pts

Blackburn home to Preston Friday night. Blackburn already on 35 pts

West Brom on 34 pts. Home to cov sat lunchtime.

Leicester on 32 away to stoke

Pigs can get max 35pts.

So I THINK that the following need to happen in order for us to be able to send them down.

Portsmouth get no more than 2 points from their 2 games OR
Blackburn lose OR
WBA lose or draw

If any of the above happen then we can send them down

I think.
Portsmouth travelling for both fixtures and are 23rd in the away table. West Brom play Coventry. Seems pretty unlikely now these two clubs will relegate Wednesday before we do.

Think I'm just repeating what others have said...

The max Wednesday can get (if they beat us) is currently 35 points. That means mathematically they can catch Portsmouth (33), WBA (34) and technically Blackburn (35). All three of those teams play before we play Wednesday. Portsmouth could get to 36 points either beating Charlton on Tuesday or Millwall Saturday. WBA could get to 37 beating Coventry on Saturday (a draw puts them on 35, which technically means no 'R'). Blackburn just need to draw with Preston on Friday. If all of those teams get to 36 points before we play, they would already be relegated.

If Portsmouth only get max 2 points from those two games OR if WBA only get max 1 point from their next game OR Blackburn lose, then we get to relegate them on Sunday.

If Portsmouth beat Charlton on Tuesday they go to 36 points and out of Wendy's reach. Which leaves WBA at home to Coventry. If WBA don't get any points they stay on 34 so Wendy can mathematically catch them. If we beat Wendy on the Sunday they can no longer catch WBA and would be relegated. Is that right?

Having said that Wendy aren't shipping loads of goals every week, so anyone thinking we will get 5 or 6 is a bit hopeful. Especially if we play like today.

Potential banana skin.

Does anyone actually fucking know what the case is with regards to us sending them down? All I can see is people saying they know then being called daft.

Surely it’s fairly simple now? If we beat them then they can only reach 32. Fourth bottom are currently on 33.

8f both Pompey (2 games) or WBA (1 Game) don't win between now and Sunday, Pigs have to win at Bramall Lane or they are down

If we beat them they are down. End of story.

The only question is whether they are already down when we kick off...

Only just seen this Jinxy, absolutely brilliant! I've always liked the Kinks, and this is a great tribute to a great band, as well as being chuffin hilarious!! Take a bow!!

If we beat them they can only get 32
If its a draw they can only get 33
Pompey have 33
Therefore if pompey even get 1 point from next 2 a draw sends them down, a combination of circumstances would relegate them before Sunday but it'd need wba to win blackburn to draw and pompey to win 1 game

If ever a whole season hinged on so much. Our dreams could all come true in around 8 days from now and I can’t sleep thinking about it.

Just imagine.

Wednesday are currently 39 points away from safety with only 14 games (42 points) left to play.

Key games to watch:

Tuesday, Feb 17

  • Charlton Athletic vs. Portsmouth: A battle between 18th and 20th. A Portsmouth win would push the "safety bar" even higher.
Friday, Feb 20

  • Blackburn Rovers vs. Preston North End: If Blackburn (22nd) wins or draws, they move further away from Wednesday's maximum possible reach of 38 points.
Saturday, Feb 21

  • Middlesbrough vs. Oxford United: Oxford is the "buffer" between Wednesday and the rest of the pack.
  • Millwall vs. Portsmouth: Another chance for Pompey to climb.
  • If Leicester wins at Stoke: They move to 35 points.
  • If Leicester draws or wins, and Wednesday loses the Steel City Derby on Sunday, the gap becomes so large that Wednesday's max possible points (32) won't be enough to catch them.

The "Nightmare" Scenario: Sunday, Feb 22

For Sheffield United to officially relegate Sheffield Wednesday by beating them at Bramall Lane next Sunday (12:00 PM KO), the following must happen:

  1. Safety Bar Calculation: After the Saturday (Feb 21) games, the team in 21st place must have at least 36 points.
  2. The Result: Sheffield United must win the derby.
  3. The Math: If United wins, Wednesday remains on -7 points. With only 13 games left after that, the most points Wednesday could possibly get is 32 ($13 \text{ games} \times 3 \text{ points} = 39 - 7 = 32$).
  4. The End: If the 21st-placed team already has 36 points, it becomes mathematically impossible for Wednesday to catch them, even if they win every remaining game.
The Bitter Pill: If Leicester, Blackburn, or West Brom pick up just a few points in their mid-week and Saturday fixtures, the math will be perfectly set for Chris Wilder’s Blades to deliver the final blow in person.

A win for United would be historically significant. Possibly the most significant league match ever. Not just for sending the pigs down (if possible), but doing the DOUBLE Double over them. Something that we've only achieved once and only on the technicality that WW2 was a thing that happened in between those matches.

The pigs have also only done the double double over us one time. Although they nearly did the treble double over us during the time they achieved this, well over 100 years ago now...

So even if they are relegated before we play them. We still have something to hit them with and play for.

Quite frankly, this is a childhood dream of mine that could come true. I know a lot of my Blades friends and family feel the same childish giddiness about this.

Let's get it done.

Seriously can't sleep..then it shows its Wednesday 1st utd 2nd for you..thankfully some level headed blades think get the win it doesn't matter what happens to Wednesday.

Imagine for a moment relegating them next Sunday and following that up with going up via the playoffs. If things pan out we might be able to tell the grunters that if they had managed to take a point off us over the two games we wouldn’t have made the playoffs. Now that would be a few dreams coming true! 😊

In "simple" terms Wedy can get a maximum 35 points now, but only 32 after we beat them Sunday, or 33 if we draw.
Ideally we want to relegate them on Sunday, not watch them go down on Saturday.
IF Blackburn (35), WBA (34), and Pompey (33) ALL reach 36 on Saturday, Wedy are 100% down.
Pompey have 2 away games, Charlton and Millwall. WBA have to beat Coventry at home. Blackburn need a draw at home to Preston.
It could happen but, not likely is it ?
IF Leicester (32) plus 2 of the above 3 reach 35, Wedy are only 99.9999999999% relegated because of goal difference.
When we beat them on Sunday they will be 100% gone and facing public humiliation at BDTBL. (whatever happens Saturday).
IF Leicester and/or Pompey reach 34 a draw would be good enough (but not for us).

I'm sure those Scottish players you talk about would swop there lot for the money they could earn in England.Footballers are just a mirror of modern society.
Probably not the tribalism in those areas of Scotland ( excusing Glasgow, Dundee & Edinburgh) two club cities have always had tribalism! Just today it spreads to violence, what these individuals get out of trying to beat up fellows from the same town or city is really baffling .Sheffield is typical of most places,a week on Sunday Blades and Owls fans will given the opportunity unless the police keep them apart fight each other with a number ending up in hospital or even worse can end up dead.
Just what drives this! Could be a workmate or even a relative.
Will this crazy violence ever end.
I can remember the time when fans integrated on the terraces ! Was an occasional bust up due to drink, not the pre planned violence given the opportunity today.
Just ruins the day especially if someone ends up dead.
1971 Ibrox disaster!

My thoughts:

1. In an ideal world, Wednesday get related as soon as possible. If that’s Tuesday night… good.
The earliest Wendy to get relegated is after the West Brom v Coventry match which kicks off at 12.30pm next Saturday. Failing that, then the next earliest is after the 3pm kick off Saturday matches.
