Imagine if you’re Luton, Plymouth or Cardiff.
You’re probably already irked to find that a club has spent beyond their means to finish 3 wins clear of the relegation spaces.
Imagine then said club is relegated on merit; points deductions mean little, they would still go down. They then wipe out those debts and start afresh. Immediately upon relegation the transfer bans are renewed and new owners spend the cash like Birmingham.
So for once potentially contributing unfairly to your relegation above theirs, unless the clubs crossed each other, they then get a chance to deny you promotion too by allowing a free for all investment in players.
It would simply lack any credibility.
Let’s not forget this is the same card played with the Coop Bank I.e. pleading an existential threat to get obligations and punishments waved. It’s simply morally reprehensible to allow this to occur.
