Unless United offer Wilder and Knill new contracts that reflect the club's desire to move forward, by which I mean make serious moves to reach the Premiership, then he will leave.
He knows that should the team go into a poor run the board will consider looking elsewhere for a new manager, so if a club with more clout (of which there are quite a few) comes calling does anyone think that Wilder won't consider a new, improved offer?
McCabe and co can either rest on their laurels, or they can get their finger out, triple Wilder's current wage - I'm guessing here, but an increase could run to £12K per week? - and ensure that Wilder knows the club has the same level of ambition as he does. If Wilder were to leave we'd have no one else to blame than the board. Show both of our management team that this club has the level of ambition to match their own, otherwise don't be surprised if we're searching for a new manager.......and possibly those players we all rate will then begin to question what this club is about?
