Wilder to Sunderland?

I agree I cannot believe Wilder will go anywhere, at the moment , what will be interesting is if he and Knill continue this season with some success, what will happen this time next year? the board are going to have to really back em with a serious challenge for the promise land, or Wilder/Knill could be tempted by a Lower prem/ top end championship offer, who knows

Just read the Sunderland Chronicle online and it says .... 'Despite just bringing Sheffield United up to the makingChampionship, we understand Chris Wilder would be interested in holding talks with Sunderland, should an official approach be made.'

I really really hope that it's just journalist bollocks because I suddenly feel a bit sick

Let's hope it is journalistic mischief, but should anyone who supports this club assume that it's a given that Chris Wilder will remain as manager of the Blades, don't allow your naivety to cloud the reality of what could happen? The board, especially McCabe, really need to make every effort to secure Chris and Alan to long term contracts at a far higher wage, with incentives built into any agreement that will reflect Wilder and Knill's success in future. Losing Wilder shouldn't be something we're having to discuss.

Still no new contract for CW. Worst move I've seen from our club for many a year.

IF Sunderland make an official approach and IF Wilder wants to talk to them then it doesn't necessarily mean he's going.....it could be that he talks to them to make sure McCabe gets his wallet out....IF he leaves then he leaves....we will all be devastated but we will move on....but it will show once and for all that McCabe doesn't put the Club first....he puts money first.

FFS we have just got a windfall of £1.4m from the Harry move to Leicester....give the fuckin lot to Wilder and Knill.

I've laughing. Are you being serious or sarcastic?
Last time I looked Wilder was 30th favourite in the betting just behind Paulo Di Caneo and Neil Warnock.
Nigel Clough and even Nigel Adkins were much bigger favourites.

Sunderland would only look at Wilder if they are really really desperate and prepared to take a risk.
Although if any more managers turn them down then they will start to get desperate.

Simple question what would giving Wilder a new contract hope to achieve?

No club has even approached SU to talk to Wilder yet.
If and when they happens, then United will raise his contract to help persuade him to stay
But Wilder himself talks about "wanting career progression" and not wanting mercenaries at the club.

You're laughing because you're completely aloof.

Sunderland will only look at Wilder if they are really desperate? Really? What, after trying to get Derek McInnes? Would he not have been a risk? You're way off here. Wilder is hot property now. And Sunderland are a shambles.

You have no idea whether any club has approached us about Wilder yet.

Managers regularly sign new contracts when they've done exceptionally well. It shouldn't take the possibility of leaving to reward an incredibly successful manager with a new contract. He's the biggest hope we've had for a very long time. It's about time McCabe got this sorted.

Wilder won't ever kick up a stink but if he feels like his loyalty is being taken advantage of when he could earn much more elsewhere he could become quite aggrieved, it could affect his performance and he could eventually consider leaving.

I don't think for a second he'll go to Sunderland. I think they're fucking stupid for even trying. But giving him an improved contract at this time is the right thing to do.

Sunderland statement.

Just read that. That's reassuring and they are stuck between a hard place and a rock right now. Palace are more worrying but I can't see them going for him at this stage.

He won't go to Sunderland.

I'm not saying he will stay with us out of blind loyalty, I'm sure he is ambitious and if a bigger or better placed club comes along he may well go, but Sunderland are a fucking disaster of a football club at the moment.

Don't panic Mr Mainwaring, don't panic!

Jesus, some of you are going to be on tranquillisers In 12 months, when Wilders secured his third consecutive promotion

Stupid boy Pike ;)

I don't think what fans think is the point here, or those that are panicking. Its that we're in this situation, which in my view, we wouldn't be if Wilder had a longer and improved deal.

I said ages ago that had CW been offered a deal that reflected his current status within the game, this joke club coming on strong would have been rightly laughed off, but of course, owd Mr bricks and mortar fucked about, so here we go again. Laughable

Everyone seems to be forgetting that Chris is one of us, a blade, and he managing our/his club, why the fuck would he move!?
Forget the cash, if we get to the premiership wilder will be a God, again, and surely then the money will be there, from our new Chinese owners!!??
It's easy to forget the cash when it's not yours.

Surely it'd be a bit rich for wilder to go for a pay rise considering his transfer policy of only signing players that aren't in it for the money?

sky sports news had a feature on him now being the front runner for the job! I personally think he won't go anywhere but I don't like the uncertainty and what effect this might have on recruitment!

I want to like your statement because I agree with you but I also don't want to like it because it might get confused with me liking the Sky feature.

Mods, can you add a "Good Post, Shit Situation" button please?

Wilder joined United for half of what Adkins was on. When we got promoted he expected (understandably) that would be rewarded. The new contract that he has been offered is STILL less than what Adkins was on, and I suspect he thinks he's being taken for a mug. Everyone knows (including the club) that he doesn't want to leave, but the relationship is in danger of being soured by United failing to pay him what he's worth.

He knows he'd get much more at Sunderland, he'd settle for a fair Championship wage, not Sunderland money, but if the club continue to take him for a mug, they could lose him. That's the truth.
