Wilder to Sunderland?

Often these media sources actually quote another source. However Sky doesn't and when Sky report on something it carries more weight than HITC and the Daily Star. I'm not running round my house screaming don't panic, I'm just saying this is worrying because an approach may well happen now and we can do without this, at the very least.
I've read different rumours on Sky every day and 90% of them are shite.

Biggs saying there is interest mate too. I'm worried that's my prerogative, that they'll be an approach. If I was them I know he'd be right up there too. We need to get Wilder a new contract NOW! This should have been done weeks ago. All I can think of is that there is currently no release clause in Wilder's contract and McCabe might think that a new contract would have a release clause in it and its actually in our control if he stays on the current one.

Even the Sky article says he's one of a number of managers they're considering. Whatever we offer him, Sunderland can offer double because they've got £50m in parachute payments so a new contract will only have the benefit of us getting more compensation if he does want to go.

And let's be right about this, he was punching his badge every game last season. If he's prepared to walk at the first offer, I'll drive him there myself.

Sunderland you say...

Apart from when they announced that we'd signed Jonathan Obika

I've laughing. Are you being serious or sarcastic?
Last time I looked Wilder was 30th favourite in the betting just behind Paulo Di Caneo and Neil Warnock.
Nigel Clough and even Nigel Adkins were much bigger favourites.

Sunderland would only look at Wilder if they are really really desperate and prepared to take a risk.
Although if any more managers turn them down then they will start to get desperate.

Simple question what would giving Wilder a new contract hope to achieve?

No club has even approached SU to talk to Wilder yet.
If and when they happens, then United will raise his contract to help persuade him to stay
But Wilder himself talks about "wanting career progression" and not wanting mercenaries at the club.

They've approached us this afternoon.

If we hadn't gone up I still don't think he would have been interested.

Even Wilder's mate on twitter is pleading that the board don't rely on blind loyalty

Yes I'm serious. Laugh all you want. He's about 6th favourite now by the way, not sure when you last looked. Why wouldn't Wilder be a contender!? He's done amazingly well and Sunderland won't attract a Big Sam type anymore either.

Everyone seems to be forgetting that Chris is one of us, a blade, and he managing our/his club, why the fuck would he move!?
Forget the cash, if we get to the premiership wilder will be a God, again, and surely then the money will be there, from our new Chinese owners!!??

They've approached us this afternoon.

He'll be given an improved contract then
BUT it will still fall well short of Sunderlands offer.
Any increase we give then Sunderland will easily double or treble it.

But I doubt he'll go to Sunderland for a short term fix chasing the money.
It's against Wilders principles that he always preachers.

Personally if all he's interested in is getting as much money as possible from where ever then he's a hypocrite because he would then become the mercenary type he says he dispises.

I'll bet anyone £10 to charity he won't be going to Sunderland this Summer.

Also I doubt Wilder would join a club where he was 4th or 5th choice on their wanted list.
Surely he has more dignity than that?

Unless United offer Wilder and Knill new contracts that reflect the club's desire to move forward, by which I mean make serious moves to reach the Premiership, then he will leave.

He knows that should the team go into a poor run the board will consider looking elsewhere for a new manager, so if a club with more clout (of which there are quite a few) comes calling does anyone think that Wilder won't consider a new, improved offer?

McCabe and co can either rest on their laurels, or they can get their finger out, triple Wilder's current wage - I'm guessing here, but an increase could run to £12K per week? - and ensure that Wilder knows the club has the same level of ambition as he does. If Wilder were to leave we'd have no one else to blame than the board. Show both of our management team that this club has the level of ambition to match their own, otherwise don't be surprised if we're searching for a new manager.......and possibly those players we all rate will then begin to question what this club is about?

It's not the idea that other clubs approach us about Wilder that bothers me, it's the knowledge that the board is reactive and can't see the wood for the trees.

Keep the most important manager we've had in 25 years happy. Show him he's wanted and that the club want him to stay.

Our fans who think Wilder is a Blade and that means he'll not turn jobs down are in my view living in cloud cuckoo land. Wilder might not end at Sunderland, in fact I would be very surprised that he would. However we need to protect ourselves from an approach which will come at some point and offering a new contract seems essential to me. I know managers often insist in release clauses etc but irrespective I would have thought Wilder would stay longer if he is given a longer contract with a wage increase naturally.

He's just turned them down.

There's nothing about an approach or a refusal for Grayson in the media? If they have then Wilder is at least third choice and I would be amazed if he would want that job. They'll end up with someone out of work due to the mess they're in and that other managers at other clubs will know they're not first choice - unless they are at a much smaller club like Clough a Burton. It's got Nigel Pearson all over it.

Just read the Sunderland Chronicle online and it says .... 'Despite just bringing Sheffield United up to the Championship, we understand Chris Wilder would be interested in holding talks with Sunderland, should an official approach be made.'

I really really hope that it's just journalist bollocks because I suddenly feel a bit sick
